  • What battery ecosystem are these?

    • Katana, I guess.

    • I can't find anything else to fit yet. Tried ozito, AEG and aldi.

    • +4

I believe it's Mitre 10 (Rockwell), worx and Supercheap auto

      • Generally which of these have the best battery/charger sales? Approx what price are good?

      • How sure are you this is correct? I’d love it to be correct as would increase the range of tools available but I don’t think it’s correct. Someone on a previous deal posted the manufacturer of Katana and it wasn’t Positec

        • +1

It's unlikely to be correct, see further down.

Recent 50% off reduced to 40% on boxing day sales?

    • +1

Yep. They have done 40 a few times. Only seen one 50 off. Spent $300 at 50% off and another $100 today.

  • FREE2AH code for 2ah battery seems not working cart total only comes to 40% off blower & battery.

    • Worked for me. Put in KATANARAMA first then FREE2AH. Mentioned on their homepage as well. Added free battery in small print just above total.

    • Okie, so we just need to add the code & not the battery as well to the cart.

      • +1

Yep. Add code and it adds battery in small print. When you do checkout near last step it shows the battery as well.

In case you're interested, I bought into the last 50% off deal and took a good look at the batteries, determining the original OEM in the process:
    https://goughlui.com/2024/12/23/review-teardown-katana-2ah-2…

As for who they'd be "compatible" with, I'd say Yato is the only one I am aware of that I suspect to be a drop-in compatible.

    • +1

That's seriously brilliant! It would be awesome to have your skills. Thanks!

    • +1

This is so good. Someone above suggest Rockwell may be compatible and also WORX. I have to say, Rockwell range of tools looks almost identical

      • I'm not so sure. Looking at the thicker profile rails of the Rockwell battery and a few keying "bumps" in front of the contact receptacles, they don't look quite right for the Katana. Likewise, their charger is a different design. As for WORX, I think they're physically compatible with Rockwell at a glance, but again, likely not Katana unless proven otherwise. I don't have either on hand, so I can't say for sure, but it doesn't pass my eyes. Look up an eBay listing for a Rockwell battery to get a good look and compare for yourself.

A helpful OzBargainer put this one together which confirms my suspicions regarding Rockwell and WORX looking the same - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/591076

The only one I was willing to vouch for was Yato, as even though I don't have any, the charger and batteries are visually (shape-wise) identical to Katana.

        Caveat emptor!

  • +1

Don't forget to add a charger if you're new to the ecosystem and you're not buying a kit!
Takes some of the value of of the deal.

  • +1

Not a bad deal considering it comes with a 5 year warranty, and it's an actual line-trimmer (Not like the Ozito one that requires you to buy plastic blades!).
    Brushless motor too.

Katana seems to be a subsidiary of Kinchrome Tools by the looks of it

Tempted to go for the Standard Line Trimmer (Which isn't brushless) + Charger + Free battery = $74.79 Delivered, but I honestly don't know how long a 2.5AH battery would last (Run time wise)?

Edit: Made the decision to go with the Standard Line Trimmer, 4ah Battery & Charger, 2.5ah Battery (Free) = $100.80 Delivered - Lets hope I don't regret my purchase!

    • Haha. I did the same thing too. Line trimmer looks half decent for the money (fingers crossed). Mower actually seems decent too. Cheap way to go all electric hehe.

PS. @OP. Thanks for the heads-up!

    • You mean $119.40 or is this a different deal?

      • Different deal, they have two Line Trimmer models, the one OP posted and a more basic one (Brush motor instead of brushless)

  • Ah crap. Need to buy a charger too with this deal?

Just a quick PSA for all who purchased Katana tools -
To get your 5-year warranty, you must register your tool within 30 days, otherwise you will only have three years according to their Warranty page:
    https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/warranty

So don't forget to register your tools via https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/register-tool to make sure you get your full 5-year warranty on the tool. Batteries appear to be 3-years regardless. It doesn't matter if you purchased via a reseller or via their webpage, it seems you need to do the registration process. After registration, it should come up in your tool bag - https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/my-tool-bag
