  • Looks good if already in the ecosystem or starting fresh

  • Is the charger barrel or usb

  • Do you have to pay a monthly fee to use all the features?

    • It has SD card slot so that shouldn't be the case. Should be local storage and hence no subscriptions needed as per my understanding.

      • +1

Yes microSD storage, so no subscription needed. And does 24/7 recording which is great.

  • Can this be powered through this solar panel

    .

As far as i know solar panel cams charge a battery, not the cam itself. My experience with 5w panels even powering a 2w fan are pretty crap.

  • +1

Great camera, bought a few last time on sale.

    • Usb or barrel type charging port?

      • Comes with a power plug brick adaptor/head, no USB.

  • 1080p lol.

    • +1

      Forgot its nearly 2025.

      1080p is acceptable till 31/12

    • +1

The TC41 is 1296p and is on sale for $65 down from $85ish

  • +2

TP tapo cameras are the bees knees. Have a heap of em. Local sd storage so no need to pay for any cloud stuff (just get decent sd cards).
App is decent enough and is easy to share the camera access with family.
Only advice is to spend some time tweaking the detection sensitivity settings.

  • +1

What’s the best way to power these if not close to an outlet?

    • buy a 5m extension cable from Aliexpress for about $3 and run the cable to nearest point. Thats what i had to do.

Why does it say it's a security camera, but uses wifi? Surely at minimum you'd use Ethernet, preferably with POE

    • +2

Security cameras don't exist. Cameras only provide surveillance, not protection or safety.

Words lose all meaning due to marketing lies.

    • +1

PoE is not much better if you don't have a UPS, redundant Internet connection and redundant off site data storage. It all depends on what level of surveillance you want.

  • I have a lot of Tapo Products and bought this recently at BingLee during black friday sale

The battery powered Tapo Products dont have PTZ function, so they are fixed on one view unfortunately, but can be charged with USB Solar Panel.

Agreed with @deejeta takes some time to tweak the sensitivity and alerts or the phone will alerting you to everything and anything for no reason.
