So much stuff is drop shipping with insane jacked up prices these days

I’ve made 4 AliExpress orders this week because the same thing from AliExpress was 1/4 or so of the price. It’s crazy.

    • +7

I've been thinking maybe Amazon isn't a bad way to make some coin with dropshipping. Slap "Clearabc" on and bam that's a brand and now it can be sold.

      • +1

I got some usb adapters recently that they slapped $10 on the price and tried to resell them and a IEM cable they slapped $20 on top and tried their luck.

If you can make $10-20 per product and get people to buy them, you could do really well

        • +3

But then you would need like 1k worth of new accounts :P

    • Amazon's the same price with the boxing day sales if you aren't a new user on Ali, and it will arrive in packaging you can gift that hasn't been kicked around at soccer practice and pissed on by a flock of geese.

      • +4

When most of their prices are that low, I don’t mind when my packages get a little Messi

        • The people you give gifts to might though.

        • +2

          Underrated comment!

  • Is this deal for the side hustle job? 😜

    • +11

At one of the meetups many years ago there was a guy dealing eneloops from his trenchcoat. None of those dodgy watches. Gotta have the scales to weigh and make sure they're the real deal :)

      • +3

Back in the day, it was flights to Taiwan… Briefcase full of RAM.

        • Or going to SE Asia to get the latest iPod before they're released here. Load up the suitcase and resell for profit. That was nearing 20 years ago.

          • @Clear: My, um, acquaintance… Came back with 2 large briefcases stuffed with PS2 games each time.
He sold burnt copies for a price, and these for much more, cos people liked silvers & printed covers etc.

This isn't a deal on scales, this is Aliexpress giving you a $9 'new user' coupon.
Without it, the scales are $10.49, more expensive than Amazon lol
How many people on Ozbargain have never used Aliexpress? Is there a way to trick the new user thingo?

    • +3

Hence the whole "new users" in the title and everywhere else it's required to be in the deal. AliExpress give a "welcome deal" to new users and some products like this are super low. While others have no discount at all.

You'll need a new email for the new user account.

      • "New User" isn't a deal. Countless stores have referral credit for new users are you going to post every item every one of them sells?

Fell free to add new user price to your deals, AFTER the regular price.

        • +1

          This isn't referral credit.

      • +1

Add +anything to your Gmail address and voila! new user

        • +2

I think that's not working. Requires new email.

          • +2

@Scrooge McDeal: I have a custom email domain with catchall set to my inbox, meaning I can just put [email protected] and voila new email. Maybe Aliexpress will ban my domain at some point, who knows :)

I have been getting the welcome deal on everything I buy from them. massive savings

            • @n00t: Pretty genius. I'm surprised they don't tag your address, mobile number or credit card. More fool them I guess, and more money you :)

              • @Joost: yeah surprised there is no enforcement of 1 mobile number per account.

  • +7

still weighing up whether to go for this or not

    • +5

Is your pun…a scale of things to come?

    • +4

      It's a heavy decision.

    • Would have made the decision faster if you had TWO of these. Buy the smaller one as you have trouble weighing up small decisions

  • +1

Bought a 500gr one. And already 1kg from the previous deal - plus already owning 2kg from previous deal.

    Cops will be knocking soon.

  • Ordered both the 500g 0.01 precision and 3kg 0.1 precision scales. Already have a 5kg 0 precision scale set for the kitchen, so these will make a nice set. $6 well spent, cheers!

  • Shows me AU$10.49

    • +2

You can only buy one at a time. The first one is the cheap price, everything after is normal price. So you need to be a 'new' shopper with unique email/credit card etc. to buy the first scale, then clear cookies, log out etc. and start again with new email/credit card etc. as 'new' shopper again and buy second one on separate order.

  • These break super quick

    • Anything will if you drop it or put big thick hardcover books on it in storage

    • Safe to say… It didn't break by normal usage.

    • +2

I bought some that look identical years ago and use them for weighing coffee, been going strong at least a decade now.

      • +1

We must have been unlucky - same use case - lasted 3 months. Then Amazon told us the warranty was only x amount of weeks and wouldn't give us a replacement.

        • Warranty of a few weeks is ridiculous. Even 12mths for a lot of items around the home is BS… Considering how often they get used (like mowers, edgers etc)

      • +1

I also have the same scales for the same purpose, except they were used today for the xmas pudding.

  • Not good for cocaine, ketmaine or methamphetamine unfortunately. If you require an accurate scale to measure for for products in that category, you're best looking at 0.00 or 0.000 scales which provide much more accurate measurements.

For example if you need to ensure for harm minimisation purposes that someone is requesting a 0.04g dosage of ketamine, which usually is fine to prevent a k-hole if they're not after that experience/nightmare depending on the user, can confirm this scale doesn't even register the existence of anything on the scale even if you put over 0.04g of the powder onto it! That's of course not very safe, and we need to be sure we focus on harm minimisation and promoting safe dosages if people are going to partake.

Is that some kind of weird flex? πŸ€”πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜¬

      • πŸ˜‚ mxe for the win

      • +2

No, what would a middle aged nobody on ozbargain like me get out of 'flexing'? I'm talking about a common use of this type of gadget, and this model particularly is frequently bought for the purpose mentioned.

If even one person reads this and was planning to use it to prepare a dose of anything, especially more lethal options if you get the numbers wrong, know that they should rely on a scale that weighs lower into the mg with up to 3 decimals if they want to be sure they don't harm themselves or a friend.

        • +1

Such a divisive topic. But i can get behind that ^

  • What is the deal with digital kitchen scales, it only seems you can get chinese-made or obscure-branded ones. Anything available with a known reputable brand name?

    • +1

You may want look into coffee scales, lots of decent qualty ones.

      • Any recommendations?

    Xiaoxin pad pro or nothing!
