Another Tesla Keyed, What Gives?

Ok please, can we discuss this one? Orion shopping centre in Ipswich Queensland.

Pink wrapped Tesla was keyed, comments suggest the lady works at the centre.
Again what… why?

Did she not see the Tesla light up with sentry mode while she was around it?

Most likely has nothing to do with the brand, cars get keyed all the time.

  • +2
    1. Criminal damage
      (1) Any person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages
any property is guilty of a crime and is liable —

Summary conviction penalty: for an offence where —
      (b) the amount of the injury done does not exceed $50 000, imprisonment for 3 years and a fine of $36 000.

    Seems fair.

  • Nothing to do with it being a Tesla, cars have been getting keyed and egged for decades, it's just the recordings available on the Tesla's make it appear they are the only brand copping it.

Low life's are everywhere unfortunately, and they know the soft laws let them get away with it.

  • Are there any stats to say that Teslas or EVs in general are getting keyed more than other cars? Or is it just more visible because its now being caught on camera with sentry mode etc?

I have a Tesla which has not been keyed, and I also have an ICE car which has been keyed (prior to purchase 2nd hand, not sure what the previous owner did to deserve it).

    • I was curious too but couldn't find anything based on a quick search. Perplexity and ChatGPT suggest that there isn't hard data that indicates they are vandalised more often.

    • Luxury cars tend to be keyed more often, perhaps there once was a period when Tesla's were a little bit exclusive.

I suspect they get keyed as often as luxury cars (if that stat is to be believed) simply because they are EVs, sold by Elon, and are a little bit fancy.

  • Because people are sh!t, as simple as that.

    • not sure why you got downvoted..the longer I longer I live the more I realise this

      • not sure why you got downvoted

Might be one of those people I was talking about :)

the longer I longer I live the more I realise this

Yep…. When you're young, you think old people are just grumpy, but when you get older yourself, you realise why!

        • yes and now we become one of those grumpy people ha ha

  • Wifes mini got keyed on first day of owning it, happened while at the motor registry getting plates etc. People key cars all the time, only difference here is the camera footage, Teslas not specifically targetted more.

  • -1

Pink wrapped Tesla - good way to get targeted, I bet there are heaps of pink wrapped Tesla in that shit hole called Ipswich

Wow I would have just set it on fire

  • +1

There is a mentality out there that wants to get back at ‘rich fcks’. Keying a ‘rich fcks’ car helps them identify with the downtrodden and victim-class.

Everyone wants to be in a club.

  • Tesla owner stole her park?
    .

  • Maybe it’s because some people feel that some Tesla drivers are a bit extreme when it comes to the environment and are bit self righteous about it, kind of like this guy behaving like an environmentalist nut in Boston Legal:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6rQ_M5uRlD4&pp=ygUcQm9zdG9uIGx…

    • Maybe they support Ukrain, or maybe they don't like Donald Trump. There's a lot of good reasons to hate Musk, hard to pick just a few when Musk is sticking his shitty fingers into so many topical pies.

  • I have my new RAV4 keyed last year. Bloody jealous POS. If you are to do it, pick a target worth doing.

  • Looks like trailer trash types, the gaudy MIMCO bag she obs can't afford but /needs/ to show off.

  • Damaging e-scooters will be next.

    • +1

i always break-check teslas on the road.

So you're a brain washed twat then if you you do this?

      • amusingly if he actually was doing that they would have footage to provide the police to get the Ahole a big fine and a court appearance.

        • More amusingly if the Tesla didn't stop in time, it would also have footage for their insurance company showing what a twat they are.

    • +5

any time I see either "far left" or "far right" on a social media post I polish my clown lenses and put them on

      • This. No better way to spot the chronically online.

  • +4

Orion is where my partner works. This person has been identified and is screwed.

  • -3

Somewhat get amused realising there is a "Tesla owners Australia" group on FB (76k members) . Try to search for "Toyota owners Australia" - none shows up . Try "BMW owners Australia" - one shows up with 40k members . :)

    • +3

      none shows up

Because those brands would have groups people have made that are more model specific
Eg I'm sure you'll find a Toyota RAV4 group, and a Toyota land cruiser group

    • You're not searching for the right terms. Try "toymods".

    • +1

Because there is a huge variety of Toyota models so a 'Toyota Club' is a bit useless. It works for Tesla because they only sell 2 cars in Australia. The Toyota Corolla club has nearly 20,000 members alone.

  • My guesses as to why:

    • key woman knows or thinks she knows the pink Tesla driver and has beef with them. The problem with driving a distinctive car is that you may have pissed someone off weeks, months or even years ago, unbeknownst to yourself and the person you pissed off will remember your car. Tesla driver might have overtaken, took a car spot key woman thought was hers or even had an unrelated conflict with someone else in the community. Crazy key lady doesn’t need to have her facts right, but she thinks she knows something about the pink Tesla owner. In my area there’s a few distinctive cars who people call out the driving or parking behaviour of on local Facebook and Reddit groups, sometimes even which business that person owns etc.

    • general anti Tesla or electric vehicle vibes. Doesn’t have to be well formed opinion. There’s even people who are anti electric cars in general. There’s conspiracy theories on electric cars being an excuse to jack up fuel prices etc. Lots of conspiracy theories get a good following in Ipswich, anti fire ant bait, anti vaccination. anti 5g etc - often lots of cross pollination with these group and ideas too.

    • just a nut job who gets kicks from being destructive and harming others.

    • +1

Oh it's that kind of place? Maybe the judge will sentence her to 5 covid boosters and a property fumigation for fire ants. That should cause social Pariah status and send a clear message.

  • +3

Heaps of cars are keyed, just with Tesla’s and the cameras makes the news.

    • That's because Teslas have cameras all round and sentry mode. Other cars don't provide a lovely view of the guilty party.

  • +3

My guess is she was cut off or had some kind of altercation with with a tesla and took it out on this one. There is not enough Teslas on the road yet. When they are more common this won't happen as often IMO.

    • +2

Or maybe that actual car. Pink is a pretty rare skin on Teslas in a specific location I would think.

  • +1

All Teslas have 9 built-in recording cameras as standard. Obviously Teslas will capture themselves being keyed (and videos shared to the internet) compared to other manufacturers’ cars being keyed as they don’t have recording cameras as standard. Imagine your Mercedes being keyed. You wouldn’t have any idea who did it and definitely no videos to share.

  • -4

Getting so sick of hearing Tesla fans crying about every preconceived injustice bought onto them. Get over yourselves, no one cares about your hunk of junk.

    • +1

do you hate elon or the environment, I'm not sure which one….

You should be concerned that this behaviour is not normalised otherwise it's going to be your property next and we'll see if you care then.

      • I’ve had this behaviour inflicted on me several times. People love defacing Commodores too. Tesla isn’t a special case.

        • commodore drivers deserve it lets be real, just like the white hilux drivers.

Never had any issues with my subaru but I don't drive like a jerk either.

          • @Purp: How can you say that? Get pissy when it happens to a Tesla but it’s ok when it happens to other cars. I’ve got a Subaru too and it’s gloriously incognito.

          • @Purp: Not sure your that far from the perp with this viewpoint, and it conflicts directly with what you say one post back.

          • @Purp: I have seen some bad Subaru drivers but I don't go road rage and key the car or every random Subaru.

  • Another Tesla Keyed, What Gives?

That's pretty rich coming from someone with 2 posts and 98 comments in just 31 days.

      • -3

Is that all? 3 comments a day, 2 posts of deals to give back to the community all done while downtime at work, just like I'm working right now and browsing the web.
Your 3k+ comments sure are amusing if you want to go that route. basically a comment a day for you for 10+ years, oof.

You pretty upset you basically took offence and self reported yourself into that one

I shouldn't have to wait for long …….. about mid-March at your current pace. 😊

              ps sorry about your predicament.

@jackspratt: Your maths is terrible, explains the unemployment situation.

        • +2

Yeah no one uses the term 'far left' unless they're online a lot. Time to touch some grass and talk to a live human.

          • +1

@MessyG: Yeah , and no-one uses the term 'dole bludger' unless they are dead set silver spooner, dyed-in-the wool, 'black arm band view trooper' / planet eater. But who's counting?
This is the Boomer that tarnishes the rest.

Another old person keying a Tesla. I guess these people hate new technology and fear change, but I'm sure people will make up another excuse for the bad behaviour.

    • +1

It is more they just aren't aware that they are being monitored, practically any new car or expensive car is targetted. Tesla isn't special in this, the only difference is with Tesla you have the evidence of who did it.

      • EV's are targeted more. I've owned a number of new cars in my lifetime, generally no trouble. I was loaned a GWM Ora for a week, on more than a few occasions i encountered a crazy either out the window yelling, making comments under their breath or aggressively to my face when i had parked and exited the car at coles etc.. Significantly more road aggression than normal. As an MX-5 driver i'm used to people trying to merge on top of me etc.. I have to drive like im on a motorbike.. assume i'm invisible.

Plenty of people out there who think you're going to pry the keys to their dual cab/v8 out of their cold dead hands.

My wife's usage of her car is a perfect storm for EV's, daytime solar charging, short distance commutes, parked in the sun so being able to program aircon remotely etc.. would make her happy.. i'm just not willing for her to be on the receiving end of what i was in the Ora.

  • Probably the pink wrap rather than the Tesla.

  • I bet there is a correlation between owning a Tesla and being a property investor than the average person who has never owned a Tesla. Not necessarily and there's no way to know for sure for any particular Tesla, but I'd bet it's still true.

    Tesla MAGA

Make Australia Great Again by following and financially supporting Elon Musk.

Should not be keying the future of democracy

  • The man child is at it again>

Alternative für Deutschland. The Alternative for Germany. A political party so extreme that Europe’s other right-wing parties want nothing to do with it. It’s too extreme for Marine Le Pen. Too extreme for Giorgia Meloni. Too extreme for Geert Wilders

And in Mr Musk’s mind, it’s the saviour of Germany.
and >he is endorsing the AfD, a German party that is pro-Russia, anti-NATO, strangely sympathetic towards the literal Nazis, and a pariah even among the other right-wing parties of Europe, who are hardly squishy moderates themselves

    https://www.news.com.au/technology/one-of-the-dumbest-things…

  • -2

If Teslas are not being targeted more than any other brand I will be astonished. If you can't figure out why they are targeted you must be living under a rock.

The thing I can't figure out is, if climate change is a "hoax" and we are going to "drill, baby, drill" and we are anti-China, what's the point of a Tesla, Elon?

Tesla Cybertruck strikes again. Another fatality.
    Who's buying this crap?
    https://thenightly.com.au/world/usa/donald-trump-tesla-cyber…

    • Didn't bother to read the article did you? It was an act of terror. “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion."

      • -2

LOL, didn't read my original link to the story at the time of posting did you? At that stage just another failed cybertruck. The story has updated since.Go figure.
Nice try, you can dismount now.

  • It's pretty interesting how like not even 4 years ago people were always jerking Musk off and his various entities he owned and co-owned but ever since he's put his political stance more out there, the hatred towards him has become so vitriol.

If this is the reason why Teslas specifically are being targeted it's quite dumb because Tesla has made the money on the car already and you're just causing issues just for the owner and wasting time damaging vehicles that shouldn't have been keyed in the first place.

Keying cars is also one of the most lowbrow deadbeat activities you could ever do in order to make a statement.
