@TangoCharlieAlpha: You obviously love your off road driving and yes a lot of people do, not arguing about that. But to try to make out that 99% of these rangers aren't just bought by tradies so when they turn up on site they can rock out with the proverbial out is just false. Not one person I have ever met who isn't in construction or civil eng has one, what does that tell you? It tells you that if you aren't in one of those fields, people are buying something else, any other 4x4, I won't name them there's plenty. As far as suburban duties, I go back to my first point: people buy the car they want for occasional use, and not the car they actually need every day, either out of fomo or because they only want one car and have it do it all. They could buy a Triton or a BT50 or anything else in 2 wheel drive if it was just for work, but they are essentially buying a toy and expensing it as a tax break
I posted the price of the Raptor because I didn't want to harp on about every feature missing in the Fords that the BYD has, it's a much fairer fight that' way, anyone can go an look at the spec sheet.
Regarding needing diff locks et al, there's ways around this if the computer is set up to be able to dynamically manage the wheels that receive power. The Outlander has been set up to do this and if you watch Autoexpert's video on YouTube you will see how that goes, it's a different driving experience but it gets the job done, and it should just be a matter of time, potentially by launch, that's BYD does the same.
@Jackson: Go to your local bat ramp around 5am or so on a nice weekend and report back as well. Likewise go to a holiday area and hang out around the cravan park and will see at times never ending lines arriving. Or rop by bunnings on the start of a long weekend and see how many load up for home projects - landscaping etc.
Of course they not going to be towing every day of the week though.
@Sal in SA: We were down at Preston Beach last weekend and there were hundreds of vehicles on the beach. The number of 4x4s being sold is growing rapidly - hence the introduction of the Shark into Australia. Look at the ever expanding number of retail outlets and websites catering for off roading and camping - they must be selling all that stuff to someone. The thing is, OzB is dominated by champagne socialist White boys from Sydney and Melbourne and new Australians who have never driven on the beach and who would shit themselves just thinking about driving in the bush. Most have never driven West of the Blue Mountains or been further North than Cairns (which they flew to). The real Australia is very different.
@R4: Well said! Drove my 4WD on Stockton Beach last weekend and my family loved it. Have gone on lot of beaten down trails and seen some really nice places. Strangely, I have seen lot more retirees on these tracks than any other age group. Australians love to travel & explore and COVID has only accelerated the trend.
@TangoCharlieAlpha: Driving on the beach is great and we're lucky as a lot of other countries don't allow it. Australia is a great country but the best of it is not the cities (especially New Shanghai and New Mumbai - previously called Sydney and Melbourne) but the places outside of them.
@Jackson: 80km unladden with 50kg manlet driver?
I think you mean "innocuous climb" not "obnoxious climb". :)
have you driven a Shark?
@kungfuman: No, I haven't.
I would, if it can handle the trails that I explore on the weekends and I doubt it will. It doesn't have the necessary hardware like diff locks and low transfer case. BYD sell other models in China which actually have these hardware. Shark is built to a price point to keep low cost and therefore come without these.
Sure, 2500 kg tow capacity vs 3500 kg. And while Ford is up front with the ball weight of 350kg, BYD seem unable to mention it in any material. Which means it is very unlikely to be 10%, 200kg if we’re lucky, but more likely 150 kg. In other words 2500 kg is not something I would recommend a shark tows. Anything larger than a box trailer tbh.
The shark cannot compete with a ranger.
I think you need to watch the tow test.
https://youtu.be/TGjKHYE2k4I?si=76rvKDUviH5v7emi
No need.. This people just Chinese hater that all..
95% of ranger drivers don't tow lol
Gcm still limiting factor on a shark at 2.5t towing plus payload left from the max 250kg ball weight.
Not quite. Shark is an urban car only in reality. Ranger can be too but it genuinely can be driven off road and on the beach
What percentage of rangers actually go off road or on a beach? 20-30% ? How many Raptors go off road? 5%?
I don't what it's like where you live but here in WA, it's a lot. I've had a look at the Shark, it's a great car for the money (although I'll never buy one as it's made by the CCP) but I can't see them being used OR or on the beach much.
@R4: WA for sure I’d be going Hilux all the way. In Melbourne something like a shark once they’ve ironed out the problems seems like a perfect setup for the average Joe. Suburban runs during the week then camping at 2wd access sites on w ends.
Qlders outside of Brisbane? In fact leaving aside the limited amount of sealed roads, most would need a 4WD for climbing in and out of the potholes on even the Bruce hwy.
You should blame people rather than the car. Car is not going to drive itself to the beach.
Raptor is built to go extreme off-road unlike Shark. People shouldn't be buying such a capable car if they not going to utilize it for its intended purpose.
Prefer waiting for German engineered Amorak manual transmission deal.
isnt the new amarok a ford underneath?
kind of puzzled how i feel about that
not having to suffer VW 'engineering' but instead relying on Ford
yerrck…
Yarra yering….
Got a new Style V6 myself - when I got it it was on promo for ~70k with 5 years free servicing (or 80,000kms) alot of the options on the wildtrak are standard from style up in VW land like the lager dash and infotainment screens matrix LED headlights. Happy with it so far, getting around 9.5L/100 which is pretty reasonable for a V6 slab of metal imo. Fit and finish inside I found also to be a bit higher standard than the rangers, feels more like a tiguan if that makes sense.
So you want a VW badge on a Ford engine/transmission?
You'll be waiting for a long time as the current Amarok is a Ford under the skin. Maybe 3rd gen will give you what you want.
im happy with my bmw e39 m5 ute
Now thats a high yield investment
How about the WRX ute?
Ranger XLT (2025.25MY)
3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel 10AT Full-Time 4WD
Double Cab Pick-up
Estimated Drive Away Price
$77,501
lol
it looks like they arent do deals on the V6
no options except the $1,650 touring pack which inc. 360 cam and tow kit and plain white
some truly extortionate options there…. $4.5k canopy, $3k roller top, $4.75k bullbar
Its a MY24.5 EOY sale
Ranger XLT (2025.25MY)
The V6 is highly in demand there is no incentive to discount a vehicle that is in high demand and has a 6-12 month wait time.
Dealership accessories are extortionate, in other news sky is blue grass is green. Why is this noteworthy?
FORD feels threatened by the Shark, that's a good thing for UTE buyers.
99.9% of ford ranger owners are massive bell ends
0.1% margain of error?
99.9% of ford ranger owners think they HAVE massive bell ends, but in fact ARE massive bell ends
okay. Cancel my G63 order and order Ford instead nice deal.
Not as high as the Mercedes deal. Skip lol
is this car week or something?
Yeah. Happy car week!
Any deals on Raptor?
It’s not electric??
It would have an electrical system.
Ciggy lighter?
nah, usb port to charge the fully sik vape bruh!
We only drive Camrys on OzBargain bozo
Can you just drive a little better and faster?
How about do a poll to see what is popular car ozbers drive
What's so good about "Bi-Turbo" ?
Small turbo for low revs, big turbo for high revs. Less turbo lag but still high power. Best of both worlds.
except it increases complexity
Yup technology has definitely improved but bi-turbo apart from sounding really cool usually means much more expensive repairs if things go wrong. Ask any person who owns an old Subaru.
Not massively. Bi-Turbos are really just the same as a “Twin Scroll Turbo”. Which is one turbo with two channels and a waste gate.
It’s quite a clever design to use the same turbo unit for two different RPM ranges.
Sounds more European than Twin Turbo.
its the turbo's sexual preference to be a Bi… But still identify's as a forced induction unit.
Expensive parts and repairs down the track..
Best selling car so far….
No one complained about who bought the car 1 week ago and got ripped of with depreciation?
Hypocrisy at its finest finest. There is a sucker who bought this year.
Have you seen the used market? There isn’t much depreciation for Ranger.
It’s kinda crazy to me that the most popular vehicle costs this much, and the most popular passenger vehicle starts at $47k. People are spending a lot of money on new cars relative to ttpical wages
Use to be a whole lot more compared to typical wages.
I paid 35k for a base type commodore in 1997, and 21k for a Nissan skyline in 1987……….. that was a lot of wasted $ back then…
Thank god I found Ozbargain.
Yeah it used to worse 20 years ago then to current for new cars to the wage
I suppose I’d be more inclined to spend more on a car if property prices were the same as they were two decades ago
If you had of kept them you'd be swimming in cash, ford trash won't survive 10 years.
Tradies are loaded.
how loaded are we talking? my household earns roughly $250k pa and I still scoff at the price of a RAV4
250k pp right?
@drprox: no, total between us, unfortunately
@beltdrive: Tbh mate I scoff at a RAV4 too because I can't work out when it became a status symbol (for some). It seems incredibly expensive for a thing which provides the same utility as myriad other, much cheaper, options on the market.
I can’t even imagine those kinds of riches. If I tried it would include ivory back scratchers and smashed avocado on toast each morning. RAV4? Geez I’d be driving a Porsche 911 with that cash
@Brick Tamland: I live in Sydney and have a mortgage, so I don't feel rich in the slightest
@beltdrive: Oh Sydney, say no more.
Yep, they buy flashy brand new cars to pay off over 5 years and then complain about cost of living
Have heard a few owners of these complain about faults and stuffing around by Ford trying to fix. Id try to research if there is much in that before considering. Hard to tell really being most are bought as company tax write downs, in of itself a bit of a joke.
Thanks OP., appreciate it. This deal will allow me to achieve my dream of driving ONLY in the far right lane, and sitting 14 nanometres away from any car in front.
EV drivers are as bad as Vegans, I don’t care .
Maybe on sale as the tradies are only buying $96k raptors
Gotta get a Raptor if you fix blocked toilets for a living mate
Maybe these models are for the spotters and traffic controllers
extra big ute space for the cooler bag they only carry.
When you earn $200k+ a year to hold a stop sign you need status and instant tax write offs :) .
They should be buying F-150s. Way better than the Raptor.
Any deals on Everest. ?
Everest trend $67990
Do these things still come with a free extra chromosome for all drivers?
Yes, that would give a typical buyer a total of one post purchase.
Here for the comments - love that utes get as much hate as Tesla haha
Its not the ute that's the issue, it's the seat wheel interface…
Problem exists between driver seat and steering wheel.
Yes because Mainland army only like Chinese EV deals.
Does this come with instructions on how to tailgate and flick high beams?
No instructions needed. All you need to do is sit in the driver's seat.
In fairness this is a reasonable deal for what is a 'good Ute' im not a tradesmen but this makes more sense to me then that 350k G-wagon deal that was on here yesterday
That g wagon deal is a joke post that people just vote up for fun
The G63 is the more practical purchase
what a time to be alive
Too late, just bought a G63 couple hours ago
Ute drivers are statistically worse drivers and way more inconsiderate.
@Jackson:
There were 859,000 caravans and campervans registered in Australia and the numbers are steadily growing. I know these includes campervans but even if we split the number in half, these are huge numbers. There are 905,000 registered boats and 1 in 10 Australians have a boat licence. I'm going to bet there are lot more of caravans and boats weighing over 2.5T than 0.1%.
https://www.tra.gov.au/en/domestic/caravan-and-camping-data#….
Then why post the $20,000 difference in Ranger deal without being specific?
Also, Shark and Ranger are not in the same class. Don't buy a UTE if you only want to drag race everyone, there are cheaper and faster options. Raptor is not a vehicle you buy to do suburban duties. You buy it to go and explore places where most other vehicles can't go. It comes with shit-load of off-road gear including front & rear diff-locks and low transfer case etc to make this happen.
BTW, Ranger also comes with better towing (3.5T) and lot more off-road capability than Shark. You get what you pay for.
