funny how close the price mirrors the byd shark. So even if you are ford fanboy you should appreciate the competition BYD brings to the pick up market.
Unfortunately, you'll just get the absolute barebones black edition for that price. The one you really want, limited edition, with those cool daytime running lights costs closer to 80k and you are still missing tech that comes standard with the shark 6.
Fingers crossed more people are switching from ford to BYD, so all traditional car manufacturers get a reality check and adjust their prices.

Would still get a BYD shark

Better warranty, performance, fitout and probably reliability.

Depends on use. Urban use only then go for the Shark but if you're going to go off-road or on the beach then it'd be the Ranger.

Both are good cars but for different reasons.

      • +2

In between urban existence is running up and down freeways for hundreds of km which loads of these do. The Shark would also do that better.

  • 2 more reasons to live! (abroad)

  • this one doesnt have $31400 discount

  • These things are boosted to the hilt. Life expectancy will be short.

  • I can only see the 2025 options. Just my postcode that is the issue maybe?
Go here: https://www.ford.com.au/latest-offers/ select the deal and then just the 2025 options come up.

These cars are hilarious the drivers look like they are trying to find children to kidnap

  • I wish there was an EV, hybrid SUV, or UTE with the same towing capacity as the Rangers or Everest.
I take my boat out every other weekend for family fishing, and right now, no EV/Hybrid can tow a long distance without draining its range.

Yep. Have a look at the latest carexpert video on the Shark's towing capability. It can tow but when the battery is drained, it's biblically uneconomical.

      • "biblically uneconomical" = ~30L/100km aka completely in line with every other ute in the same test except the raptor which used significantly more fuel

        • Don't you bring "facts" and "evidence" into this!

          • +1

@drprox: It just wouldn't be the same Ozbargain we love to hate if everyone actually knew what they were talking about 🙃

        • That's uneconomical to me but I take your point. I've posted plenty on here about how I like the Shark. I went to see it at the BYD dealer in Osborne Park and I was very impressed. I'll never buy one as it's made by the CCP but that doesn't stop it being a good truck. PHEV is only really viable when the battery has charge and the vehicle can use its electric motors. When it's running on fuel only, that small ICE has to work extra hard to carry the weight of the battery and it becomes very uneconomical. That's the compromise of that technology. Shark will be fine in urban areas but not so much outside of that. Pure EVs even more so.

        • I was talking about range of EVs during towing which is reduced by up to 40%.
Hybrids in my books don't count as an EV.

        • Running the test with full battery and then stopping it because battery is at ~15% and 1.5L engine is getting worked up and car can't accelerate past 70km/h, suggests Shark got the benefit of fuel economy. I think real life fuel economy would be much worse than 30L/100km when you're doing a long trip, you're not going to stop because the battery has depleted. Even if you set the battery SoC to 50% or 70%, engine will have to work constantly to keep the charge.

Love it when I get tail gated by one I just drive slower.

    • I don't. Need to assume they're on ice. Get out of the way.

    • Even more fun to drive slower being tailgated in a fast car.

If you really want to have fun with said Ranger driver bro, play TLGP with them on a merging lane. When the lights go green, release all 500hp under your right foot to get to the speed limit. You may be middle aged and driving a d.ckhead’s car from back in the day, but being a child to Mr King Sh.T Raptor bro can still be fun 😉

  • Can't spell ranger without anger. Ignoring the stigma, I heard that these (and the everest) are riddled with issues. Seems like a slick, high tech vehicle but if it spends half the time in the shop it's no good

  • how is the value retention on these after 1year?

  • +2

BYD Shark still kills the Ranger, even with the $7k price drop. Bought the Shark 🦈

  • How much for the 4x2 version? 4x4 is pointless in 95% of driving scenarios. As if people who buy these take them further than a gravel road.

    • I mean I'm sure there are moments on new estates where the road to the block of dirt where the owner is swinging a hammer isn't yet sealed…

      • +1

You don't really need 4WD to drive an unsealed road.

        • I do understand that…

        • Until you do..

    • +1

Gravel road? That’s generous. I’d say DFO carpark is the most off-roading they’ll see

      • Gotta be able to jump those kerbs to beat someone to a parking spot

        • Well yeah, gotta use those recovery tracks for something

  • -2

Would definitely buy a Mahindra over this.

  • Cant go past Isuzu D-Max X Terrain, good bang for buck.. those engines go on and on

  • Rangers will be redundant in 2 years, they won't be competitive at all.

Toyota die hards & Fleets will buy a hilux.
Dodgerammers will always need to buy them because of insecurities.

MG, GWM, LDV will be the new low-mid range. Honestly more capable, cheaper, better specced and longer warranties.

The Amarok. Navara, Triton will all fall away.

Sure there's the argument of "made in china" but Rangers have hardly been the reliable truck that everyone alludes to.

  • byd shark 6 top of the range is cheaper and better tbh, and before you mention uphill how many ranger owners actually go off-road, the 5 out of a 1000 who do , buy the ranger

    • 2 years!

      lol!!
