    • I had my solar installed by these guys a year ago and couldn't be happier. đź‘Ť

      • Install solar from anyone who do proper work you will be end up with happy days its just warranty thing most of solar installers will not exist after couple of years. Than its no way can claim workmanship with them after any issue inverter will start giving you headache only 7-10 years than this company not exist to check faults.

  • Does anyone know if i can book now for install 2 month down the line? my PPOR house settlement is at the end of Jan

    • Same, settlement late January, wondering the same thing

      • It's minor but you always have to keep in mind that settlement may not happen for various reasons. Given solar install price trends they're only going down so I would just wait

  • dunno how about you but my eye is twitching when I hear #solarpanels

I get scam calls about it on my mobile twice a day on average

    • +1

Get a google pixel which has call screening and auto spam detection.

      • yeah its brilliant, also helps to get on do no call register

        • believe it or not I am on the register, but these suckers don't care

          • @shabaka: All I know is that I can't really get spam calls anymore. I just screen them. If they fail the screening they don't get an answer.

  • Their sunwiz award is not credible enough, can be purchased it seems. Maybe credible equipment but cannot guarantee credible workmanship or support

  • +1

As above, interested in S.A. deal.

  • +16

Beware this guy has no personal boundaries. If you do make contact with them he will pester you with calls everyday despite telling them, you would contact them, when you are ready.

  • Hey, I already have solar but can I just get this installed as a second stand alone system? (For say EV charging)

    • A quick look suggests you'll probably still get solar panel rebates, but your big problem is the inverter. The great majority of inverters are designed for on grid application, where they need 240V grid power to run- hybrid or off grid inverters are able to operate without that 240v signal/ capacity to take load.

    • +1

From what I’ve heard adding a whole new system (each with panels and inverter) and still having the 5kw export limit is relatively easy, although I don’t know the details myself.

But no one will make changes to an existing system (add panels etc) that I’ve spoken to. Luckily I have plenty of roof space, so the existing system could stay.

  • Why does it cost extra to install on terracotta tiles?

    • +3

Steel roofs have mounting stuff screwed through the steel roof into the battens…. Tiles don't like screws, so require different mounting strategies.

  • +10

I just had an 8.36kw Sungrow and Jinko system installed by Marshall. They were great to work with, answered all my questions honestly and they finished everything quickly. The system is running great and generating more than I expected for this time of the year. I highly recommend them!

    • +3

May we know the cost? Thanks

      • +3

It was around $5.4k before VIC solar rebate and loan, which was much cheaper than the competition

        • +5

They installed 1 of my strings different to what was planned with no feedback. So now I have shading on a 10 panel string instead of 4 or 6.
Inverter was placed in direct west sunlight instead of shady side 5 metres away (they didn’t give me much of a choice)

Took a month for inspector to come out

Also have just been contacted by TechSafe Victoria who want to come and audit my system/install for safety (doesn’t suggest anything is unsafe, but poor installers are audited more frequently)

        • Honestly being much cheaper than the competition means in almost all cases, shortcuts are taken as their isnt much room to move on the price of the unit itself.

  • Is it still worth replacing this with 3.5kw solar panels that were installed back in Nov 2014?

    • What’s the most output you’re seeing in a day? What’s your bill look like?

  • +7

At this price ROI is like 1 year!

    • Depending on usage profile but yeah it's quite cheap. I had my first solar installed in 2018 for $2600 out of pocket. Based on my usage and calculation, I paid off in 1.5 - 2years. I then installed another system + battery for $9100 in 2018, this would take ~6 years to pay off. But overall, can't be happier with everything.

  • +1

I've had GoodWe inverter for 1.5years and GoodWe EV charger for 1y. Feel free to ask me anything about them.

    • +1

is it good? goodwe app easy to use and enough information?

      • Stay clear from Goodwe; wifi constantly drops out (known issue), I've gone through 3 replacement inverters, Goodwe support are absolutely HOPELESS do not know how to troubleshoot their own equipment. Typical line "we will replace the firmware and it will be fixed". Go for Sungrow

        • try HomeKit. This solved the issues for me.

      • +1

What do you mean about enough information?

Gives you production, how much you use in the house, how much you pump back, daily statistics, uncapped. There is no subscription which I love.

App is very easy to use and had no issues with it.

It gives you a fine control over other things which are not normally exposed, such as active power settings and reactive power, from the app directly. (you need to know what you are doing to tinker with them).

I have had some problems as well as @deezenuts said and the technicians came out and gave me a free HomeKit which fixed all of the problems. The problems came from the fact that the inverter is on the other side of the house where the wifi is very weak. HomeKit resolved all the issues completely.

When I had problems, GoodWe sent technicians on site to check and fix. Can't really fault GoodWe to be honest.

        • @Oops - Goodwe said they don’t send techs out. Who have you spoken to? I have a HomeKit, still experiencing wifi drop outs.

    • +1

I have had one installed about 4 years back. Those days 5KW Goodwe were new things. It is working as expected. Came with wifi based smart monitoring even in those days. I think they came with 5 years warranty, which could be upgraded to 10 years by merely registering. They were based out of Glenroy in metro Melbourne and you could call them to remotely upgrade the warranty on the machine.

    • It's GOODwe.

Need someone that accept crypto as payment for solar here at VIC, dont need MAGA hat though

    • I dont even know why you would think this is a thing, but rebates need payments in dollars you would think……without rebates youd be looking at over double

    • Why not sell some of your crypto for cash?

      • Can use $10k tax free if you dont convert

        • Its only tax free if you purchased the crypto with the intent to pay for solar straight away.

If you already have crypto sitting there and think youl just use some of it to pay for solar….think again…

Literally no benefit to you if they accept crypto, the benefit would be for them.

  • I’m looking to upgrade my circa 2011 1.5kw solar system which used to generate 66c per k/w.
Is this a good system to upgrade to? Anyone can comment on their reputation ?
    Thank you

    • The equipment is fine. Economy line stuff. Buyer beware with labour. Most people would do best to get their local solar sparky in. But that would probably cost more

      • Thanks for that Mcgrathkerr Can anyone also vouch on their customer support as I’m having mixed thoughts as there are different opinions about them.

        • I've dealt with GoodWe customer support several times. Can't say it was better or worse than any customer support I had.

They sent their technicians on site to check my system after the sparky messed things around.

Generally speaking, you won't deal with the GoodWe support because their equipment is pretty standard and good. If someone mess things up, it will be the sparky.

    • +2

You will be jumping from $0.66/kw to $0.03/kw today and probably $0.01 or $0 next year.

  • +1

What warranty is provided on the Goodwe inverter?

    5 years?

    10 years?

  • I had following installed for $1550 (out of pocket after all rebates, VIC solar rebate and VIC solar loan in VIC) couple of weeks back:
    5KW Goodwe Inverter - GW5000 - DNS-30
    14 x 475 W Jinko Solar Panels JKM 475N-60HL4-V
    Install had follow conditions;
    Single storey, tiled roof.
Removal and disposal of the previous system (this cost me $350 extra).
I don't know how the panels and the inverters compare with this deal. But just to putting something for anyone interested to compare. Install was for a rental property. The installers were very flexible in coordinating with the renters to schedule and getting the things done.

    • -1

So you paid $1550-350=$1,200.00 upfront costs, this is $800.

      • The way I am reading this is that total upfront out of pocket is $2200, requires an upfront deposit of $800.
        t

  • +3

How is $2200 a good deal if the OP's website shows a 6.6 KW system for $1990. It might help if OP could explain the differences between the two offers.

  • +1

Hello from QLD… seems like an excellent deal !

Looks like their competitor had it for the same price…. But their additional fees were, switchboard upgrade for example $1,000 instead of $1,200.

Recommend getting multiple quotes before proceeding.

  • I bought a house ~11 years ago, which as a ~20y/o solar system (2kw). If I get this, am I eligible for the gov rebates? Or no rebates as the house already has solar?

    • You will be jumping from $0.66/kw to $0.03/kw today and probably $0.01 or $0 next year.

    • yes, it is probably worthwhile in terms of savings in electricity. A 2kw system won't be generating much excess solar to export

      • It will be much better than a 10Kw system.

      • 2kw system (80% efficiency) vs 10kw system (97% efficiency) at 5hr/day full production and 20 days sunshine

        2 x 0.7 x 5 = 8kw x $0.66 = $5.28/day x 20days = $105.6/month

        10 x 0.97 x 5 = 48.5kw x $0.03 = $1.45/day x 20days = $29.1/month

If you need the electricity, than upgrade, by all means. If not, money wise it's well worth the 2kw system

p.s. can't edit my previous reply.

        • Actually that's pretty much what I'm getting for my 10kW system (8.5kW Goodwe inverter), here in Melbourne at the moment.

That 3c export is getting me around $30 a month back. With solar, my bill is about $60 a month, minus the $30 export return so my final monthly bill is around $30 a month (spring/summer). Winter I'm expecting pretty much minimal solar export $$$'s though.

  • Can this be installed onto a slopy slate tile roof?

  • Maybe when they scrap the means testing on the SolarVIC stuff.

    • $210K household income is pretty generous I would have thought?

      • -1

Not really. Lots of dual income families will be above this. Esp in metro Melbourne.

No rebate and switchboard upgrade cost kills it for me. Would love to go solar

      • +5

Rules me out, but with a massive mortgage and high interest rates I’ve not got a huge amount to spare.

Meanwhile a retiree with no mortgage, a $2.98M house, and a higher disposable income (because no mortgage) still qualifies.

I can understand a means test, but the way it’s structured is ridiculous - $210k income and $3M property are the limits, but $210k doesn’t service the mortgage on a $3M property, not even one half of that.

        • +1

100% agree. That’s Australia all over. Taxing/ penalising income and leniency on taxing wealth makes it hard for aspirants/ young families. Totally ridiculous.

        • I think the real craziness is your house earns over 200,000 and you can’t invest a few thousand to benefit yourself.

Yeah the $ figure of property value can be debated etc

          • @cloudy: The first $150k of household income goes to the mortgage, and with gas heating, hot water, and cooking solar doesn’t provide meaningful economic benefits - electricity bill is about $60 a month.

The mortgage is new, so no offset account buffer to dig into, but when I get enough to replace all of the above then it makes sense as a package. I’d go early on the solar if it was cheap enough.

Regardless of whether you think I should qualify (as noted, some sort of means test is reasonable), it’s the structure of the means test that irks me - very wealthy people qualify while those less wealthy are excluded.

  • Ugh. Would be keen if I wasn't in a townhouse. Shit thing is, no way to cleanly align the panels. (So I've been told)

    • +1

At some point get a solar edge system or an optimised system and face them every direction. Good for summer ac regardless of direction

    • +1

It’ll be more expensive but what you want is “micro inverters” and the highest kw panels you can reasonably afford (if not much roof space)

Look for someone advertising micro inverters.

      • +1

Yeah I heard that from one of the other suppliers, but they reckon they could only get about 2kw worth. (Just need to wait for panels to get smaller and more energy dense)

    • Thats a cheaper system with lower end products

  • Hi OP
Is this price before the VIC rebate or after?
    Thanks

  • I used this company to have a 10kW system installed (with the 8.5kW GoodWe inverter). So far it's been running well.

The only thing I didn't like was the installation location of the inverter - on the west side of the house (as that's where my meter box is). Thankfully I have eaves and they installed it up high so it only gets direct sun very very late in the afternoon. I'll probably install one of those shade cover things, but so far I haven't had any issues with overheating.

  • I wouldn't be getting solar anytime soon. There are now electricity plans which mimic solar owners (free electricty from 11am - 2pm) and AEMO is pushing the government to charge solar owners because they can't manage the grid properly.

    • +2

      Australia the “lucky” country

Lucky we survived for so long

    • +1

are you referring to the negative FIT? there's some misunderstanding around that. fit will be negative during certain low demand hours but higher during peak hours so it'll work out he same. inverters can also be set to limit export down to zero to grid during those negative fit hours.

      • Nope, only negative or extremely low worthless FIT rates. Never higher during peak hours.

        • does that mean if we are not fully using the solar-generated power during the day, we will get taxed?

i think the government just saying they can shut down the switch for the power we sell back to the grid?

          • @charliechao: AEMO is pushing for the government to make energy retailers charge customers negative FIT rates to discourage excess power export to the grid during the daytime. Currently too many homes in Australia have solar and AEMO is unable to manage the grid properly with current infrastructure.

            • +1

@mrvaluepack: maybe the government will introduce a battery rebate to solve that?

              • @charliechao: Watching some of the lithium battery fire videos from EV cars and other devices, I rather NOT have a gigantic lithium-ion battery pack installed on the wall of my house.

              • @charliechao: battery blows out the payback years. avg payback for a solar system in nsw is 5yrs. it's a no brainer if 3-4yrs. these vic deals are fantastic.

  • Canadian solar panels? still made in china or vietnam? I will wait, the solar panels will get cheaper very soon.

    • +4

the solar panels will get cheaper very soon.

They are always getting cheaper. Do the math and see how long your payoff time will be. No point waiting for cheaper if you could have offset the entire system already by the time the panels drop a few hundred more.

    • He is gone :)

    • +2

He is probably calling up everybody that has contacted them, at least ten times.

  • +2

I think this is the first time any solar deal got so many upvotes
