CO2 Gas Cylinders 6kg Our 6Kg gas bottles are new and ready to use straight out of the box. With a cylinder shut-off valve this little tank can dispense up to 1000L and carbonate and dispense up to 500L of beer when used for homebrewing purposes.

We strongly suggest testing your connections prior to leaving the cylinder on.
To do this watch our video here OR read below
Disconnect the gas side of your set up from your kegs.
Turn on the gas at the black valve
Turn the grey regulator clockwise until the low-pressure side reaches 40psi
Turn off the black valve at the top of the bottle.
Wait 2+ Hours (or leave overnight)
If the left and right pressure gauge on the regulator has dropped or is showing 0psi. Then it is safe to say you have a leak somewhere in the line. You will need to check all connections with soapy detergent water to locate the leak.
We recommend checking all clamped sections, or if you’re using push-in fittings, to ensure they’re not bending or being stretched as this will cause a micro leak.

Features:
- Australian Standard Approved
- Comes with 6.0kg of CO2
- Dimensions 76cm high x 16cm diameter
- Black carry handle grip for easy of transport and protection of valve
Refilling:
Empty cylinders can be refilled by most local homebrew stores around Australia. If you’re having trouble click our link at the bottom of our website “Gas Refillers Map”
Most places can fill on the spot for you, or they offer a swap and go type service. Typically this will cost between $25-35 for a 2.6kg Cylinder and $50-60 for a 6kg Cylinder.
These cylinders come with a 10 year approved life span. After this time for CO2 fillers to be able to fill your bottle, you will need to get it hydrostatically tested for your safety and theirs while filling it for you. This can easily be done at a local fire station or a certified gas mechanic/supplier.
We at KegLand charge $20 for a 2.6kg Cylinder Refill/Swap
and $40 for a 6.0kg Cylinder Refill/Swap
Tap and Go Visa/Mastercard only.

Warning: Only use in the upright position. or you run the risk of breaking your regulator with liquid CO2.

If you are looking for a CO2 bottle that is more compact and lightweight, please see out 2.6kg CO2 Bottle (FULL)
The 6kg can dispense up to 1000L and carbonate and dispense up to 500L of beer.
(Typically 6g of CO2 used per L to dispense. Or 12g of CO2 to carbonate and dispense)

Please note this item cannot be sent with Australia Post. If you purchase this item and select Australia Post, it will automatically be changed to a suitable shipping carrier. We will contact you if further information is needed.

Hydro Testing
Unlike some other alloy steel cylinders, the KegLand gas cylinders are made with a RPV fitting into the valve opening. As a result our cylinders only require 10 years periodic hydro testing not 5 year like other similar cylinders. This can be seen in the AS2030 standard here: 10 Year Periodic Testing Interval. When this cylinder eventually requires a hydro test you can swap it with another cylinder in our exchange program in which case we absorb the hydro test cost at our premises in Noble Park or alternatively take it into a hydro testing facility to get the test done.

          • @theguyrules: Seems like it's the fitting to the Duo. If i push it harder against the machine it seems to work better.

  • Shame the postage to WA kills any savings

  • Can you get it filled with N2O instead of CO2? Asking for a baker friend

    • +2

There must be a lot of bakers in my local area with how many cannisters I see around.

  • +1

I need 2 of these. The big ones. And Harry, I need it by tonight.

  • How easy is it to use, with the adaptor, to fill a soda stream bottle?

Do you just have to test the connections once, and then leave the gas on?

    • +2

We keep the gas off at the bottle, turn it on to fizz, then turn it off again.
Only cause we have had issues with a bottle leaking quickly. Surely depends on how well we've connected it

  • Anyone tried this or similar to a Billi or Zip soda tap? Their own line of swap bottles are tiny and very expensive

    • I've seen one of the kegland blokes selling Zip branded CO2 regulators on Facebook, pretty sure they white label for them…
Are the swap bottles the same as a sodastream bottle?

    • Should work.

I read you have to buy an adapter since Zip an Billi use proprietary cylinders and I saw some places sell these adapters.

Also you said "sodatap" but it sounds like you didn't mean actual "Sodatap" brand. I ended up buying Sodatap. Sodatap comes with standard regulator you can use with any standard CO2 cylinders.

After that the next challenge is to hide 6kg cylinder close to your sink cabinet. The cylinder has to be upright.

Good deal if you are in Vic and have a big kitchen, plus a stand to hold the bottle.

For small homes the 2.6Kg when on sale is a better deal.

Video link below showing their 2.6Kg cylinder, so think twice before buying the 6KG.
    https://youtu.be/ahDx_5gxDyU?si=i3hCHDFeKXxNtiyo

The problem is the quick connect kit is so expensive…..

Anyway Just got my Black Friday Art kit. Will last me a while before I have to look for a alternative.

If you switch to external cylinder, is there aplace in Sydney you can buy these and what do you do with your empty SodaStream cylinder?

    • For small homes the 2.6Kg when on sale is a better deal.

What about a small home of Ozbarganer? :)
6kg is better value when you refill. But it's size might be the issue.

    • I have a tiny kitchen and am happy with the 6kg. It really depends on the individual kitchen space and how it's used.

    • +1

Bro google Gas Guyz, they come to your house and refill it for very little, and they service Sydney and Melbourne. $60 dollars for 6kg co2 fill.

      • Sounds like they are not doing refills.
They are just another swap service.

  • I'm glad the picture says full, I was worried I'd be buying an empty bottle

  • *Not compatible with all Soda Stream connections..
Wish I had knew about this before I bought mine.

    • +1

That doesn't mean you can't make it work

My friend Jumping Jack Flash asked me what CO2 was. I said … Jumping Jack Flash, It's a gas !

  • Any deals for co2 tank in Perth? As someone mentioned delivery to perth kills it.

  • So the 6kg cylinder can be used to fill the small 450g soda stream gas bottles with an adaptor, is that right? I don't have room to connect this directly via a hose to the Soda Stream so just want to make sure I can do it this way

    • +1

Yes, but official Sodastream bottles have a special valve that makes it more difficult to refill. It can be done but will take quite a bit longer.

Kegland sells compatible 450g cylinders that can be more easily refilled.

      • Thanks so much, makes sense. I've purchased their bottle as well. Cheers

      • It's not too hard with either Sodastream or Sodaking 400g bottles, just have to go slow. You get used to it pretty quickly.

Put the 400g bottle in the freezer for at least a few hours before, then might need to do a couple of fills on separate occasions to get full.

Have two bottles on rotation (one in the Sodastream dispenser, empty one in freezer), and takes about 5 min. a fill when bottles are chilled.

Less hassle and money than doing a 400g bottle swap at the shops.

You do need this adapter to fill from the larger CO2 bottle though:
        https://kegland.com.au/products/sodastream-cylinder-filling-…

      • The valve doesn't matter.

Just unscrew it, add dry ice to the bottle and screw the valve back on.

        • That's doable if you live near a place that sells dry ice as you'd have to buy some each time you want to fill up and need to fill up two canisters at a time as it's normally sold in 1kg quantities.

    • ive been using sodastream for years, been considering one of these because i kinda dislike the proprietary sodastream bottles they make you use. The mouth of the bottle seems unnecessarily large and after the first 24hours, my water is no longer that fizzy.

Do these setups carbonate water alot more effectively? For reference, the storebough soda water from woolies or coles stay fizzy for way longer, i'm talking days longer than my sodastream ones. If these setups promise the same level of carbonation longevity, im all IN.

      • +1

Please note you are commenting on the question about refilling Sodastream cylinders. There is nothing different with original Sodastream if you do this.

There is no much control with Sodastream.
To get higher carbonation level you need to either reduce water temperature or increase CO2 pressure (or both).

You can buy 6kg cylinder, regulator and carbonating adapter (something like this https://kegland.com.au/products/pco-1881-carbonation-cap-tee… )
Then you can bump up the pressure (use common sense, research the topic and make sure you don't blow the bottle).
Placing water into the freezer before carbonating helps too.

So the 6kg cylinder can be used to fill the small 450g soda stream gas bottles with an adaptor, is that right?

I was doing it for a while with 2.6kg cylinder refilling original Sodastream cylinders.
      Challenges:

      • Flipping heavy cylinder upside down and holding it like this while refilling
      • Original Sodastream cylinders with fancy valve might be tricky. I personally never had problems with them. I think I had to release pressure from adapter a couple of times to release the valve - most of the time I had no problems.
      • As your donor cylinder goes low you will be getting less and less into Sodastream cylinder. With full donor I was getting 450g into Sodastream cylinder. But it will go down for this point. Later you will be getting 300g, 200g, 100g, 70g on each refill. You can decide when enough and enough and just refill the donor. But your inner ozbarganer will know you still had some CO2 in the big cylinder and you wasted it.
      • I went to the local brew store here in WA as recommended above and the store attendant sold me the direct to sodastream dispenser kit that bypasses the sodastream cylinders altogether. He says its a much better approach for beginners as it doesn't even require a regulator and all that.

Ill chill my water to near freezing temps before I start fizzing from now on to see if there's any improvement in microbubble quality.

All up cost me $195 and $32 for refills going forward.

        • Have you tried it out yet?
I went there with the intention of buying that setup, but came across the small sodaswap bottles and decided they were enough cheaper than sodastream to not bother with the big bottle. Might have chosen differently if I had more space.

          • @md333: Yea set it all up now. The sodastream source which I had for years somehow did not work with it. The connection seemed OK because I see co2 being dispensed when I push the button, but it wouldn't be channelled through the injector and just escapes. I replaced it with a more fancy aarke 3 carbonater which works like a dream with the larger co2 tank (4.5kg) and looks so much better on my bench top.

I did 3D print some parts so I can route the ptfe tube under my sink and keep the tank out of sight.

4.5kg refill = $32 which should last me an entire year and then some in a 2 person household.

      • Just get an adaptor you psycho

      • Flipping heavy cylinder upside down and holding it like this while refilling

        Why?

Warning: Only use in the upright position. or you run the risk of breaking your regulator with liquid CO2.

        • That's only relevant if you're connecting it to kegs. With a sodastream or refilling cylinders like we're discussing here, you don't connect a regulator.

  • +2

Once you get this you will never go back. The company Gas Guyz come to your house and refill it and your lpg bottles for for fairly cheap considering the time saved.

    • I do like the idea of refill onsite vs swap and go.

      • +2

Man as a business it's so obvious and yet so clever. I hate lugging around gas cylinders to Bunnings etc I'm always worried they are going to blow up. The company does 8.5kg (big ones) LPG switchovers for $34 too. I don't work for them but I totally think they deserve some customers for providing a great service.

      • Looks like a swap to me - I can't find anything about "refill on-site".

        • My understanding is that it is free lifetime refills or swaps if you are using for a Sodastream. I don't know how long they will do this for though as I haven't found the information.

  • Noob here

What's the best way / adapter to refill the soda stream quick conmect pink bottles for the Sodastream Art?

The adapters I saw on the website are for blue bottles

It looks like quite the hassle and fairly risky to refill myself.

Any cheap places in Sydney to swap and go?

    • Might need to get on the lathe and turn something up.

  • No C&C at distributors??

  • I've just got a Breville Infizz but it's not arrived yet. Will this have the same fitting bits as SodaStream? SodaStream use a bit much slavery apparently.

  • +1

This is showing as $119 now and out of stock. Expired??

  • Anyone in Brisbane bought this or any other local alternatives?

    • I have a 2.6kg bottle from them, why's that?

      • You tell us. We didn't buy 2.6kg - you did. :)

    • +1

Your local home brew shop will sort you out, I go to a country brewer on the west side.
