CO2 Gas Cylinders 6kg Our 6Kg gas bottles are new and ready to use straight out of the box. With a cylinder shut-off valve this little tank can dispense up to 1000L and carbonate and dispense up to 500L of beer when used for homebrewing purposes.

We strongly suggest testing your connections prior to leaving the cylinder on.
To do this watch our video here OR read below
Disconnect the gas side of your set up from your kegs.
Turn on the gas at the black valve
Turn the grey regulator clockwise until the low-pressure side reaches 40psi
Turn off the black valve at the top of the bottle.
Wait 2+ Hours (or leave overnight)
If the left and right pressure gauge on the regulator has dropped or is showing 0psi. Then it is safe to say you have a leak somewhere in the line. You will need to check all connections with soapy detergent water to locate the leak.
We recommend checking all clamped sections, or if you’re using push-in fittings, to ensure they’re not bending or being stretched as this will cause a micro leak.

Features:
- Australian Standard Approved
- Comes with 6.0kg of CO2
- Dimensions 76cm high x 16cm diameter
- Black carry handle grip for easy of transport and protection of valve
Refilling:
Empty cylinders can be refilled by most local homebrew stores around Australia. If you’re having trouble click our link at the bottom of our website “Gas Refillers Map”
Most places can fill on the spot for you, or they offer a swap and go type service. Typically this will cost between $25-35 for a 2.6kg Cylinder and $50-60 for a 6kg Cylinder.
These cylinders come with a 10 year approved life span. After this time for CO2 fillers to be able to fill your bottle, you will need to get it hydrostatically tested for your safety and theirs while filling it for you. This can easily be done at a local fire station or a certified gas mechanic/supplier.
We at KegLand charge $20 for a 2.6kg Cylinder Refill/Swap
and $40 for a 6.0kg Cylinder Refill/Swap
Tap and Go Visa/Mastercard only.

Warning: Only use in the upright position. or you run the risk of breaking your regulator with liquid CO2.

If you are looking for a CO2 bottle that is more compact and lightweight, please see out 2.6kg CO2 Bottle (FULL)
The 6kg can dispense up to 1000L and carbonate and dispense up to 500L of beer.
(Typically 6g of CO2 used per L to dispense. Or 12g of CO2 to carbonate and dispense)

Please note this item cannot be sent with Australia Post. If you purchase this item and select Australia Post, it will automatically be changed to a suitable shipping carrier. We will contact you if further information is needed.

Hydro Testing
Unlike some other alloy steel cylinders, the KegLand gas cylinders are made with a RPV fitting into the valve opening. As a result our cylinders only require 10 years periodic hydro testing not 5 year like other similar cylinders. This can be seen in the AS2030 standard here: 10 Year Periodic Testing Interval. When this cylinder eventually requires a hydro test you can swap it with another cylinder in our exchange program in which case we absorb the hydro test cost at our premises in Noble Park or alternatively take it into a hydro testing facility to get the test done.

Where do people get this refilled in Sydney? Mines slowly running out from a previous bargain.

    • +3

Gas Guyz will come to you and swap the bottle with next day delivery for $60 in Sydney, I haven't found anywhere in Sydney close to the $40 that KegLand change in Vic.

Wow thats a lot more than I was expecting haha

        • +9

It's still a damn lot cheaper than individual sodastream refills.

        • +3

          Sodastream:
          $20 for 425g CO2.
          21.25g CO2 per $1

          Gas Guyz:
          $60 for 6,000g CO2
          100.00g CO2 per $1

Pretty cheap to go with Gas Guyz compared to Sodastream, about 1/5 the price.

I used 41 Pints Of Beer (North Rocks) in the past and their refil price was the same as Kegalnd. But I believe they bumped prices up now. Will give them a call next week - I will need to refill my 6kg early next year.

        • +1

Yup 41 pints is also who I use

        • +2

41 pints don't do refills at their warehouse anymore, they moved their refills to Riverside Brewery - Saturday 10am till 14:00

          • @Twizted Bargain: Oh. Thanks.
Are they still a good value for money in the area?
Going to 41 Pints mid-week was convenient - I was working nearby and was able to get refill during my lunch break.

      • +1

I get mine refilled for $10-20 (depending on who I get and how busy they are and how they feel that day) at a fire extinguisher servicing place.

        • Where is this please ?

        • Is it food-grade CO2? Does it matter?

          • +1

@eug: If it didn't matter, there would be no need for food-grade nor the higher price. Of course it matters.

            • @Bruceflix: I did some work at a BOC supply centre once, as I was walking through the yard the guy I spoke to pointed out their CO2 supply and said they fill up food-grade and industrial CO2 from the same source and that the difference was in the cylinder being filled. e.g. a food-grade-labelled CO2 cylinder wouldn't have been hooked up to a plasma cutter.

That makes sense as it makes more economic sense to just have one large source of gas onsite rather than two.

I'm not sure what happens at a fire extinguisher servicing place though. At BOC they would have processes to ensure the valves and outlets are clean. A fire extinguisher place might not.

But in reality, how important is it? Is it like how our tap water is recognized as clean and safe even though some houses may have 60-year old pipes while others were built yesterday? 🤷🏻‍♂️

              • @eug: The water industry is certainly not upto food grade standards. They rely on residual chlorine to kill any germs and the high volumes to dilute anything else that ends up in the system.

            • +2

              @Bruceflix:

If it didn't matter, there would be no need for food-grade nor the higher price. Of course it matters.

there is technically a difference, food grade is at least 99.9% pure, where industrial is at least 99.5%, but for things like welding, the higher purity the better. And because natural CO2 wells like Caroline Well in SA (shut down ~2017) produced food grade CO2, it was actually used interchangeably (i.e.
industrial CO2 was actually food grade), but the food grade stuff was sold at a premium because they could. Internationally a lot of CO2 is manufactured, so food grade differentiation is more important (particularly stiff produced at petrochemical plants as they contain benzene).

              So it's a little complicated.

What happend? I have never had a problem with Kegland.

    • +5

I disagree, I've ordered heaps from Kegland and they've been amazing with customer service- even fixing things I'd bought years before.

    • +2

I've had a problem with one of the Freedom connectors and they offered to replace it for free if I could send a video of it not working over a year after purchase. Zero issues with them.

    • +2

I've had plenty of good experiences with Kegland, great Aussie company who are innovating in a space that not many are.

    • +7

      Is that you KegKing?

    • +2

      Ordered from kegland a bit.
Only ever had 1 stuff up. Communication was good, they sorted it out threw some some free merch in.

    • +14

This is for a new full bottle, not a refill.

    • +12

Mate learn how to read: This is for a fill only of a Keg King 6kg (9L) CO2 cylinder. You will need to bring an empty Keg King CO2 cylinder into our Springvale VIC store (48 Smith Rd) to swap.

      Refill should be $30-40.

  • +1

$41 delivery to Brisbane makes it insane.

    • True, If you had something closer that cost less than $127 would be better.

    • +1

Sentience for $41 seems like a bargain. It's no wonder Brisbane is full of so many southern weirdos.

      • Wait until you meet the northerners

    • $38.30 to the Sunshine Coast

  • Do you own the cylinder

  • +1

can you use this to extinguish a fire? 🤪😅

    • +4

As it's food-grade co2, you may only use it to extinguish your bbq …

(And the food is still edible afterwards)

      • Some say a flavour enhancer

  • +1

Anyone had experience with Sodastream and these? Got one a while ago and experienced headaches after sparkling some water, note it was food grade c02. Would love to get a keg to stop buying Sodastream refills but want to make sure I'm not slowly dying.

    • perhaps it was your water; maybe thats what's slowly killing you?

      • +1

That is why I buy bottled water. I'd rather die from micro plastics that I can stare in the face.

      • Everything water touches eventually dies.

    • +1

No problem (besides overfilling one sodastream cylinder and blowing up my sodastream due to high pressure…. ooops)

    • +3

I got one of these a few weeks ago to pair with a blackfriday sodastream. Can't say it hasn't been anything but perfect.

    • +9

I had the same problem. Turned out it was caused by vodka. Haven't checked best before date, I think it was expired.

      • +2

Vodka best before?? Vodka will outlast the solar system!!

Been using the setup for years. The first bottle seemed to finish quickly (only a few months). Customer service provided excellent advice on how to test/prevent leaks - all refills lasted over a year since.

      • +2

Customer service provided excellent advice on how to test/prevent leaks - all refills lasted over a year since.

My bottle is conveniently-located so I turn the main valve off after carbonating. No leak concerns that way.

      • Any chance you can share some details on how to test for leaks and prevent them?

        • +1

Soapy water in a spray bottle. Like what gas plumbers do. Spray along the joins / tubing etc. If bubbles form where you spray : there's a leak. Watch for bubbles when you operate the sodastream.

          • @dangerdanger: +1 soapy water but the simpler method they advised is to connect it all up, open the bottle valve, close the bottle valve, then wait 24 hours. Next day try carbonate some water - if there's still pressure in the line it's not leaking :)

    • +5

can you share how you use this for your sodastream, for the uneducated hand up

      • +11

You buy this with the sodastream adapter (also available on their site) and you connect this to the sodastream via the adaptor.

The idea is that rather than paying $20 for 450g which equates to 60L worth of carbonation using the sodastream canisters, you pay $86 for 6kg which equates to 500-1000L which will last you a year or more .

So 3-4 times the price of a standard refill but 10 times the CO2. Saves you money, hassle etc

        • Ok great thank you :)

        • +3

I find their 60L rating is incredibly ambitious, unless you're only hitting the carbonation button once in a small short burst.

I've been using mine for years and after 20 cannisters using the 2 burst button each time, I only ever really end up carbonating around 40L.

          • @iuselect: Yeah if you like your soda water spicy there's no way you get the full 60L. I switched years ago to one of these 6kg cylinders and an adapter hose, if you've got the space it's a no brainer

          • @iuselect: Are you supposed to only burst twice? That explains it lol I hold the button for a few seconds each time until I hear the hissing sound.

            • @Alley Cat: With my Sodastream Source (hooked up to a 2.6kg kegland cylinder) :

I do short pumps until I hear the 'squealing' sound.
Some people pump more for more bubbles.
Then I turn it off at the cylinder (knob) end.
              No leaks, lasts forever.

I also only use half bottles like this and this.
Nice and fresh every time. No chance of it getting flat before I finish it.

            • @Alley Cat: I believe in their instructions it says to hold the button down for a second (for those non powered models), then wait for it to finish and repeat

I'm not entirely sure though because I have the power model which you just press the button (1/2/3). but I use the 2nd mode and it's "carbonated enough", and only end up getting around 40-45L~.

        • Hi mate, can I ask an uneducated question to?

Are you refilling the soda stream mini gas canisters with this? https://kegland.com.au/products/sodastream-cylinder-filling-…

Or are you connecting this directly to the soda stream? https://kegland.com.au/products/freedomone-sodastream-adapte…

I already have a soda stream but no large gas cannister. So I'm tempted to get an all in one kit as you can refill/gas standard softdrink bottles. As i've heard soda streams tend to eventually break as its all plastic. https://kegland.com.au/products/diy-budget-soda-water-kit?_p…

I'd love anyone's thoughts and experiences with this.

          • @Minimalism: @Minimalism generally people just buy the adapter and connect the big cannister to the sodastream directly rather than refilling their existing cannisters. you can fill it up yourself though if bench top space is an issue for you.

          • @Minimalism: I just hook it up direct to the sodastream with the kegland attachment. The sodastream is in a cupboard, and the gas cylinder sits behind it. Can't be bothered adding in another step (to fill up smaller sodastream gas cylinders).

The sodastream bottles do degrade - it's even got an expiry date on the bottles. But I've never had one crack / break. I only use the bottles to fizz the water (ie. I don't add cordial / flavouring INTO the bottles), maybe that's why they don't break for me. I put the cordial / booze into a cup, pour in the fizzy water.

I don't use standard softdrink bottles. In fact, we don't have any more softdrink bottles around to lug home / collect / recycle etc.

    • Been using this bottle for years with my sodastream, love it.

    • Got mine nearly 5 years ago from Kegland, no problems at all.

  • +3

I've been using this with my beer bar setup, it's wonderful, and also have done lots of purchases from kegland, highly recommend

  • +2

Anyone know the best option for Brisbane based? Should I purchase via BOC Gas? 😅

    • +1

TRU-BRU Home brew supplies at Capalaba is where I bought mine.

      • Cheers

    • +1

BOC is $79/yr rental including the gas.

$65/yr if you sign up for 2 years, and $58/yr for 3.

  • +2

Will this make my car go faster with a boost?

  • -7

Does the Sodastream lifetime guarantee mean that you guys will come and swap it out for free if I'm using it for my Sodastream and it runs out? That's not a bad deal just for the peace of mind - is it lifetime forever or capped at like 10 years or something?

    • Alright I reckon I'll pull the trigger. Lifetime guaranteed Sodastream seems like an okay deal for $86. How does the refill work if it ever does run out, do we just send an email?

      • +1

Cylinders have an expiry date and not permitted to be filled after that date. So i guess the lifetime warranty is not your lifetime rather the lifetime of the cylinder.

        • +4

But the sign said all you can eat….

    • +12

What on Earth are you talking about?

  • +1

I breath in CO2 in the park for free like a true ozbargainer

    • +1

Just like all the plants and trees.

  • Will this work with a mig welder?

    • You can, but I think argon is better.

  • I bought this and an adaptor a few weeks back for my Sodastream Duo and i have to say I'm disappointed. Maybe I've set it up wrong or just got a dud but trying to gas my water takes 10 times longer than a SS cylinder. Anyone else experienced this? Little gauge says a 100psi

    • Not sure, I use one for my beer kegs and my Sodastream, I used to use the direct adapter but got sick of changing between the beer to the soda stream. Now I use the adapter to fill up the actual soda stream CO2 bottles.

When the big CO2 bottle gets down to 1/4 left it's painfully slow and barely fills the Sodastream CO2. There is then this period where we don't get soda until I actually use all the CO2 up with the beer. Shouldn't be the issue with yours since the CO2 should be full.

    • +1

      Nup something isn't right there

      • Is the psi the right level? I'll contact Kegland.

        • Mines always at around1000psi according to the guage
