I have one of these and surprisingly, its a great camera! Its on the front of my garage and can see a very wide and nice angle.

    • What is the Reolink software like for smart notifications if using NVR? i.e. person detection

      • +1

I don't have notifications on. I work from home and use the Cameras as a set of eyes on a TV in my office, plus when I'm not home. I have a Ring Doorbell for person detection (I got a Reolink Doorbell in a box from BF sales waiting to be installed).

I also think if I had it on, I would get way too many notifications.

        • I also think if I had it on, I would get way too many notifications.

For sure, in a high traffic area. You wouldn't get any work done.

      • +1

The software is quite flexible in determining the area to be monitored, and also setting the minimum size of object that can be a trigger for vehicle or person - this helps to eliminate false positives in busy areas beyond your property.

The notification is just a push message to the app.

      • I have person detection enabled on my reolink wifi doorbell. No NVR done locally on the device. Its the fastest I have found for the lower price range options. Every other cheap-ish option had far worse software & notifications would sometimes take minutes to arrive.

OP, any deals on the recent Reolink Duo 3V PoE or Reolink Duo 2V PoE that launched?

    • Just to let you know, there's going to be a deal on Doorbell PoE around Christmas:) If you are interested you can see the post at that time~

      • I got one during the BF sales. I have 2 of the Duos which are great, the Duo 2V and 3V caught my eye.

      • Any deals for the battery doorbell?

    • Damn. I just got the standard duo 2 camera. This one looks more hidden. Do you know what the main differences are?

      • They're quite different cameras.

843A is a vandal-resistant dome camera, with a single zoom lens and max. 100 degree viewing angle.
Duo 2 is an open bullet camera with dual fixed lenses (no zoom) and a 180 degree viewing angle.

Sounds like you need to think about what your camera is supposed to achieve, and select a camera that's suitable for that task. Cameras being clearly visible can actually be an effective deterrent.

        • +2

I think the bargin424 is referring to the Duo 3V and 2V I linked, not the 843A for comparisons.

      • The Duo 3V and 2V will look a little more hidden. But there is obviously some differences as per comment below. The Duos will still do well.

I'm tempted to try a Duo 2V or 3V for a few spots at my place that could benefit from 1 camera at 180 degrees, whilst I could use a Duo 2, I feel a 2V/3V would look better in my use areas.

        • In terms of specs, i cant see any major difference between the duo2 and duo2v. Unless i am missing something?

          • @bargin424: Specs appear the same, it is more the design and look of the camera.

            • @geekcohen: Duo also has a flood light capability too

              • @bargin424: In some models, yes they have the proper floodlights. I have the Duo 2 without the little spotlights and they are still bright enough!

          • +1

@bargin424: Both the Duo 2V and 3V have IK10 impact rating (highest impact rating that you can achieve), and are housed within a glass dome.

    • @geekcohen paid $209 for it during the black friday sale

      • For the Duo 2? The 3V and 2V are new.

    • +3

You will always get much better prices from the Reolink Official Store via AliExpress.

Duo 3V PoE is coming next year.

Why even bother with Reolink AU? They are both using the same stock from their Sydney warehouse.

      • 100%

      • Duo 3V PoE is coming next year.

You can pre-order now. I guess delivery is in the new year?

        • +1

I meant to say it should show up on Reolink Official @ AliExpress in Jan 2025.
If you want to pay more for the same model/stock via Relolink.com that's up to you.

    • when will there be a 270° trio option?

      • I think that would look very weird on the screen……..

  • +1

    It is pretty good.
Only thing is this one has viewing angle 100°. The RLC-1240A is 121°.

    • +2

      Horses for courses.

120 degrees is good for an "overwatch" camera looking at a large area (whole street frontage or a back yard) to get the context of an event, but the wide angle makes it hard to get a highly detailed picture of a particular object / person. It's simply a matter of the number of pixels available to get good definition.

100 degrees is a bit narrow for overwatch, but better for monitoring a particular zone (eg the area near a door or gate) to get a clear, detailed view for identification.

The good news is that this camera has a variable zoom, so it's quite flexible to get the picture you want. It probably isn't good for overwatch, but suitable for almost anything else.

If you're looking for a good overwatch camera, the Duo lineup is amazing at >180 degrees.

      • Do you know why the E1 Outdoor has better features but at a lower price than 843A? I have a spreadsheet which compares them. Maybe I am misinterpreting what is 'better' - besides Dome vs PTZ.

        • 843A is a much newer design, with a 4K sensor (E1 is 5mpx) and a 5X zoom (E1 is 3x) and also has vandal-resistant design which adds cost.

Obviously the E1 has PTZ, which is quite nice if it's useful to you.

          • @klaw81: Thanks! And if I'm reading it right this means with the 843A, you can't move where the camera is pointing? Only zoom in and out?

            • @ferrar1: Yes, that's correct - it does not have motorised aiming, you simply point in in the correct location and then use the zoom to "frame" your preferred image to monitor.

Zoomed all the way out, you can see a relatively broad area but miss out on some detail for far-away object. Zoomed all the way in, you would be able to focus on a particular zone you want to monitor - a back gate, the entrance to a long driveway etc.

The zoom can be changed at any time, but considering its a manual process it should be considered "set and forget".

Note that Reolink has 3 different form factors for what is effectively the same camera:

              • RLC-811A is a standard bullet style
              • RLC-833A is a turret style (note 3x zoom, not 5x)
              • RLC-843A (this one) is the vandal-proof security dome.

They all use the same sensor and will have similar performance, although the turret has a different zoom for some reason.

The dome on this one might give it slightly lesser performance under certain lighting conditions due to reflections.

  • Any wireless cameras that would work with Orbi Mesh network .
I have an 810WA but it won’t stay connected
Anyone else experiencing the same or has a fix

    • Looks like the 810WA also has an ethernet port. Can you temporarily connect using that, to see if it fixes your connectivity problems?

    • Do you have band steering on? Can you set specific 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ networks to see if that helps? I know I've had issues with band steering in the paste and some devices dropping out. I hate band steering because of this.

Whilst the RLC-810WA supports both networks, it is worth a try to troubleshoot. It could be a routing problem, like this person and it appears to be dropping out when it is just not be detected because it keeps switching networks to your device. I could be wrong, but just an idea.

        Thanks a lot

  • "Coupon usage limit has been reached." ?

    • Hi we have fix it:) You can check it again

  • Does this work with Dahua NVRs?

    • +1

Does Dahua NVR support ONViF and RTSP protocols? If so, it works! You can see here https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000618783

    • I assume it would, I use a few older Reolinks on my Dahua DVR and NVR, no issues… (ONVIF on port 8000, not the usual port 37777 that's used for Dahua cameras)

  • On the previous question on NVR's, how about Swann? I've got PoE model but the bullet cameras are rubbish.

  • +1

Reolink's customer service is shit. They sent me the wrong item, when I asked to return it for a refund they claimed I sent them the wrong item and only refunded me half the money. I thought PayPal would give me a quick resolution but have been waiting a month for PayPal to sort it out.

    • Personally, I've never had an issue.

      • +1

Have they sent you the wrong camera before?

        • Nope. Not yet and order from Amazon, Reolinks AU and Reolink directly.

    • +2

Absolutely. They sent something out. Never got any notifications. They can't provide me with the signature that was used for delivery, and now they're basically saying my bad luck.

      Rubbish vendor.

    • +1

My single experience with Reolink customer service was exemplary.

The camera they sent me had a blurry picture out of the box - I contacted them, they gave me a few troubleshooting steps (check settings, firmware version etc) and once they were satisfied it was a hardware fault, they posted me a replacement camera. Couldn't have been easier.

  • +1

i used this for about 2 years and its a very solid camera for the price.

only replaced because i needed one with a wider lens for the porch.

now resides at my mums house.

  • OP any upcoming deals near christmas for NVR along with 4k camera ? I want to buy 6 camera with nvr POE hence waiting for that.

    • I want to buy 6 camera with nvr POE hence waiting for that.

You either only get a 4 Camera with NVR kit or an 8 Camera with NVR kit.

      • The Reolink offical eBay store usually has a 2x, 4x, 6x & 8x camera options. Here's an example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393559397447

But I guess you can achieve the same result from the website by buying a 4 camera kit and 2 x extra cameras.

    • Seldom will you find that six identical cameras will give the best outcome for all use cases. Have a look at some of the features and locations you’d use them in and consider supplementing your initial two or four cams with some other POE models. The Duo models have great wide angle views for oversight of you whole front or back yard, the Trackmix models have auto pan, tilt and zoom so are a great deterrent and pick up good detail of any introducers, whilst the ColorX models have exceptional nighttime detail. A couple of those run in conjunction with four base model cams and NVR would likely give a better outcome for not much more money.

      • This is good advice.

Think about what you want to achieve with your camera installation, figure out the sight lines to the important areas of your property, and select cameras that will do specific tasks in each area. Do you want to be able to read numberplates, or have sufficient detail to identify people's faces, or do you just want a general view of what's going on?
