What Digital Subscriptions Are You Willing to Pay Full Australian Price on?

I feel like I should handover my OzB badge today. I've just decided to pay the full Australian family price for Youtube Premium at $32.99 per month.

Previously I paid YT Premium via India and Turkey but got found out by YT and they cancelled my subscription unless I choose the Australian one. Even with NordVPN, YT won't show non-Australian prices to me.

I looked at the "free" options and I found it is too onerous especially I have family of 4 who also access YT via many devices (mobile phones, ipad, TV etc), and I listen YT with screen off on regular basis. I also use YT Music as well as I do not use Spotify or Apple Music.

My other full price digital subscription is Amazon Prime but that includes Free delivery. I also subscribe to Real Debrid but that may eventually go away and I would be forced to subscribe to full digital subscription for streaming. I also have Kayo Sports as part of CBA Yello deal, but I won't pay full Australian prices for it.

Which digital services are you willing to pay the Full Australian Prices on?

You call subscriptions living, I don't.

The best things in life are free.

        • +3

          That's not what I said - I bet you're fun at parties

          • -1

@lachhelix: can we recap? Here's my perspective:
Me: I'd rather not waste money on subscriptions
You: I need to get a life
Me: I don't believe subscriptions would improve my life
You: I incorrectly interpreted that you reckon I don't have a life; but my life is lacking

What say you do you and I'll continue with my life substandard IYO as it may be.

  • apple tv+ / apple fitness+ / icloud+ / apple music student rates and that’s all folks ✌️

Youtube premium lite is the biggest subscription travesty. Like paying for something that is free.

    • U should get no advertisement if u use brave browser. Try

    Hey OP,

I know we're talking unnecessarily jacked Aussie prices here but perhaps you missed this thread?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/879207

Scroll down to zubzu comment, that worked for me. I'm back to paying India pricing. Didn't have to make a new YT account either.

FYI if you click on the timestamp for a comment you can get a direct link to it.

      • Ah thank you! Noted for next time

  • I'm begrudgingly paying for YT music, but I wish they had an annual subscription for it.

Bargaining doesn't mean you have to be a dishonest ,cheap crook. You've done the right thing, and should be proud of it.

Answering your question, I only have the Prime subscription.

  • +1

If i have to pay i do not want it

Duckduckgo browser "Duckplayer" gives me zero adverts on youtube.

  • Prime, OnePass, eBay Plus.

Is internet considered a digital subscription, that's the closest I get to a digital subscription.

  • Real debrid, but it's in euro anyway.

And I have paid for two months of Amazon prime, when I had a lot to buy and things went on special.

  • +3

    None. Zilch. Nadda.
    Already pay too much.

  • only Amazon Prime

  • +1

    ProtonVPN
Prime, but not renewing due to them not shipping a lot of things now
    Newshosting
    MXroute
    OnePass

  • +1

    None.

I had the same situation occur as you but decided to say (profanity) it. I'm not going to pay full price for a mediocre service. Just found Android alternatives and now Google has lost money. Oh well too bad.

    consider piracy

  • +4

    Rd and streamio

  • Down dog yoga
    2x audible
    VPN
    Cloud storage

  • Netflix is about the only subscription I have going 100% of the time.
    Cycle through the rest.
Pickup Amazon prime for a month when we order something with prime.

    Gamepass Ultimate

Paid for youtube for years until they jacked up the price recently, despite the fact they produce no content. But youtube next is free.

I pay for Netflix and Amazon. Annoyed Amazon now have ads but I get a lot of deliveries so stick with it for now.

Wouldn't give a cent to Disney

  • Seriously, I'm really considering all my wife's subscriptions as it's starting to get bloody ridiculous.

    Netflix
    Disney
    Spotify
Amazon prime - I can understand this one as we do a lot of ordering through Amazon.
Audible - mine, I binge a lot of books.
Amazon music - mine, she hates heavy metal

As prices go up, I can't seem to fathom how a digital subscription should go up for streaming services etc.

Anyway I'm always after a better deal or cheaper alternative but it's hard to come by unless you do it yourself.

    • Surely you can share spoity or amazon music between the two of you? Just set up different playlists.

      • Amazon music has some bands a. Like to listen to whereas Spotify don fr some reason.

  • +2

Hand in your ozbargain badge and every other badge you own. $32.99 a month? Ouch!

  • I'm probably spending more to pirate everything

  • Only prime (but since they started showing ads, having seconds thoughts recently)

  • Prime but it's "free" via Amex platinum.
Door dash also free via prime but yet to use.
YouTube family via Australia.. I just buy Google gift cards at 10% off so it's a bit cheaper
    Prime ad free

  • apple icloud and amazon prime. for content, i can't pay for it because i don't own it and i had content disappear

  • +2

    FULL PRICE

    • Amazon Prime: It's cheap, saves me on delivery fees, and comes with a music and video streaming service.
    • YouTube Premium: I share it amongst 6 family members, it replaces Spotify, and it stops ads without having to worry about PiHole or browser add-ons.
    • Adobe CC: I don't pay full price, but I begrudgingly would. Nothing else compares, unfortunately.

    HALF PRICE

    • OnePass: Saves me money on delivery, earns points, share it with family.
    • Everyday Extra: Saves me money on large shops, earns extra points, share it with family.

    WON'T PAY

    • Streaming: I'm not paying for 5+ streaming service subscriptions. That's what Jellyfin is for. Amazon Prime, YouTube, and an SSD of media are good enough to get me by while I'm travelling.
    • ATO: Do we really need roads and hospitals?
    • I genuinely think Australia has one of the best healthcare. We need more

  • +4

The only subscription I have is Real-debrid. It's worth every cent.

  • Prime
    Spotify Family

  • Amazon Prime
    Google One
    Kayo

    • is Kayo still crap?

      • I don't have issues with it, I literally watch it for F1, which reminds me to cancel :)

  • None

  • I pay for YT premium in december/jan.

Kids are home and so am i.
I will go crazy having to yell out "hey google skip!"

  • Australian rates:
    Amazon Prime

    Non Aus rates:

Youtube Premium (annual via Thailand at approx AUD 60/year single sub)
Spotify Premium (annual via India at approx AUD 30/year single sub)
    MyFitnessPal (annual via Turkey)

  • Nordvpn

  • Full price -
Apple One shared with family and google photos, Arlo home security (but will get rid of in the NY).

    Discounted -
Prime - offset with Amex card
YT Premium, Netflix, Spotify via O/S
    Optus Sport via Optus network
ZEE5 and SonyTV movies (from India)

Smart tube is all you need

    • It’s just the best, makes me so happy.

      • Haven't been brave enough to login with my google account however

        • +1

just create another account, I have two, one for this sort of shenanigans and my regular one.

    • +1

      is that like red tube?

  • Full: Prime, Google One
    Ind: YouTube Premium

No other subs. Occasionally I spinup crunchroll when I have enough rewards credit from surveys! XD. I dropped Netflix when they introduced the extra charges for outside household etc. I dropped Disney+ too just because why not. I have.. Other means for most streaming platforms. I keep Prime for deliveries/deals!

  • Prime is the main one. I am also currently subbed to ebay plus and Onepass, but both of those were annual subs at way less than full price. I've also on the 200GB tier of icloud, which is basically a lazy tax because I haven't been bothered to backup my data elsewhere.

Entertainment wise, just Real Debrid until that ship goes down, at which point I'll just find another debrid alternative or go back to usenet.

I'm also facing the end of cheap YT family towards the end of this month. I've already started switching to non-official YT apps. I may start paying for Apple Music to replace YT music, at least when the free Shazam months stop working.

What Digital Subscriptions Are You Willing to Pay Full Australian Price on?

    None.

  • AU:
    Prime (annual)

    TRY:
    iCloud 2TB (via itunes)
    Spotify (family plan)
    Youtube premium (via itunes)
Netflix (via giftcards but don't plan to renew)

  • Honestly, just prime and Spotify Family, I can't see value in anything else. Even so, cans of Monster have almost doubled in price so I may cancel

  • I'm old school, read a lot, and subscribe to several different digital news media for maybe $2-5 dollars a week each

the rest I get 'free' via my $70pm internet - YouTube, etc.

  • Spotify Family
    Prime
Google One, Apple iCloud (for family)
    Lightroom

  • There is so much knowledge on YouTube these days that I would begrudgingly pay the full price for YT Premium if there was no other option to get a discount.

  • Board Game Arena

  • None.
I used to pay fro YT Premium and extra Google space but I worked out how not to.
I do sometimes pay a few dollars a year for NordVPN. The cashbacks work however, to 97 or 100 percent

  • 33 is obscene

  • None.

I only have prime for deliveries because I mooch off a shared family account.

  • I only pay for Amazon because of free delivery. Nothing else.
I torrent movies and music. I use hacked apps for YT, so no ads on any devices, can be used in the background. I don't even get ads on Prime due to the DNS I use.

  • I subscribe to Amazon Prime on and off. I stayed off for the “Black Friday” sale despite them really wanting me to resubscribe.
eBay Plus - was worthwhile paying full price for the fee-free sellers offers early this year but now that they’ve stopped I’ll be dropping them
Humble Choice - subscribed but often skip months that don’t interest me
Audible - not paying full price and will probably unsubscribe after the discount period

  • Amazon Prime, and recently switched to YouTube Premium student account thanks to a free Tafe course I'm taking. It's around the same price as some of the VPN versions and a lot less to worry about.

  • +1

None, I cancelled the lot. They get nothing from me.

I patched every device and then went about doing take out so I could cancel Google One.

Greedy bunch of F#$%s. They funnel all Australian payments through Ireland to avoid their obligations and have the nerve to pull the payment source crap.

  • Backblaze personal PC backup ($9usd / month). Run it in a wine docker container to keep my server backed up, including about 18tb of plex data.

I would say nordvpn, but thats 97% cashback, not full price.

  • I pay for Amazon Prime for delivery and Spotify family because my kids and I use it constantly

  • Microsoft 365 Family

  • AU:
    Spotify (via family)
    Youtube (via family)

I used to pay for Amazon Prime but since they stopped shipping to most regional areas I won't renew.

  • Prime
    Audible
… Even at full price it's a bargain for me.

  • -1

spotify since i use it while driving and at the gym
disney+ because i use it at home and at the gym
    ozbargain premium

    that is all

  • A lot more than I'd like to - I've somewhat given up on trying to get it working via other countries - had them going for a while.

YouTube Premium (also shared amongst a number of family so doesn't hurt as much)
Spotify (will drop soon given YT Music is in above)
Google One (for extra cloud storage)
Netflix (don't watch enough to run out of things so happy to keep it going)
    Amazon (mostly shopping, occasionally TV)
Paramount+ (only coz of the recent cheap deal)

  • Family sharing:

Binge (shared with family, 4 accounts)
Paramount+ (shared with family, 4 accounts)
AppleTV+ (shared with family, 5 accounts)
Disney+ (shared with family, 5 accounts)
Stan (shared with family, 5 accounts)
Disney+, with additional paid user (shared, 2 accounts)
Netflix, with additional paid user (shared, 2 accounts)
Prime (I use the free shipping then shared with family, 5 accounts)
Spotify premium (shared with family) - i'll probably get rid if this and transfer over to youtube music family.
For all the above I have a spreadsheet that works out each family's exact share based on what they have. All plans are the premium/4K plans.

Google One - shared with some family although i'd pay full price for this - the photo backups are priceless.

    Not full price:
HelloFresh - I stack the discount for paying upfront (10%) with the "pensioner" discount for another 10%.
    OnePass: $20 yearly.
Youtube premium family (includes youtube music) (india trick)
    myfitnesspal (turkey or somewhere trick)
    Strava (edu "student" pricing)
    AFR (edu "student pricing)
The economist - i met someone on the ozbargain forums it must be at least 10 years ago, and we continue to share each year. Once a year he messages me for payment :). I think he uses USD pricing.
The Australian/News Ltd - free with edu
Adobe Creative Cloud - free with edu

    • Geez that's a lot of entertainment subs. It's ridiculous how many services are required to be able to access everything you want. I much rather keep with the pirate way ahrr

      • I used to have a server with 14 4TB hard drives in it in a zfs array. At one point I hand a realisation that life was simpler without.

You can see I try to share as much as I can to defray the costs, but if more start banning extra accounts I’ll start doing the subscribe for a month or so once or twice a year when I want something approach.

  • Interesting no one has mentioned Ebay Plus.

  • YT Premium/Prime/Kayo/Netflix/Spotify - total ~$30/m by splitting/sharing with various friends and family and taking advantage of deals when available.

  • Only Amazon Prime because of free deliveries and the streaming option is great!

For music aka Spotify, I use Xmanager(its a way to get Spotify) on my Android phone. Has 99% paid features of Spotify without having premium subscription.

I also store a big music library on my phone when internet is not an option like flights/cruises(40GB)

For Youtube premium, I use Revanced android app which has sponsorblock and is ad-free

For movie streaming, I have a Plex server (with lifetime plex pass) running 24/7 on my HP Elitedesk G2 mini pc with 4TB external disk for movies/tv shows. It's setup with Sonarr/Radarr so everything is automated after adding a movie/show I want to see.

For Phone backups, I have Resilio Sync setup on my phone which syncs all folders on my & my wife's Android phone to my Plex server to a internal 1TB NVMe SSD

  • Prime and more recently OnePass. That's about it.
Also if anyone wants to share their Spotify family account let me know haha

  • The only subscriptions I pay is Amazon prime (shared with a mate), my share of Spotify family with some other mates, and basic Google One. Everything else was cancelled or done with foreign prices (mainly YT Premium and SSport plus in Turkey)

Turkey + Ininal method works for YT Premium btw.

  • Apple itune match, $34.99/yr. Probably the best sub I got and willing to pay full price on it.

  • Nil.
