  • No 3 phase

  • no wireless communications means no dedicated app integration to monitor the usage etc or to change the current remotely? Please confirm.

    FYI, no support for OCPP.

Also they charge $1,100 for standard installation.

    • Before getting a charging device, I’m looking to get a better understanding of how OCPP works.
Specifically, does the installer need to connect the EV charging device to an OCPP platform during installation,
or is it more about configuring the charger to communicate with the platform later on?

      • +2

No, OCPP is software side, no need to connect to something.

For my ZJ Beny OCPP version installed April last year, I use ChargeHQ and just follow the guide provided by ChargeHQ. ChargeHQ uses OCPP to connect to compatible chargers and solar/home battery, it's a 3rd party program.

        • Thanks, I was looking at the same product, time to find an installer in Melbourne.
BTW did you have to also get the optional DLB/Solar hardware kit and how much extra? I cant find any info on the portal.

          • @ky1975: For the ZJ Beny? No. It takes the feed directly from my Fronius smart meter. That's why you want OCPP so hardware from different makers can talk to each other.

            • @Bigboomboom: Interesting, I dont think my Fronius Inverter has a smart meter, time to do more research lol.

              • @ky1975: You should have, it's usually included in package either free or pay. Without it how do you monitor your solar production, export and grid usage etc.?

Do you access Solar.web with Fronius? If you do and you see all these figures that means you have the Smart meter. OCPP allows the charger to take these figures in real time.

                • @Bigboomboom: Yes I do, but from solar.web, I can only see the production, which is maxing out at 6kW in Melbourne, and the consumption shows 0. I would like to configure the charging device to only charge when there is excess power available.

                  • @ky1975: If you are only seeing production then yeah looks like you haven't got the Fronius Smart Meter. If you got that Smart meter then OCPP charger can take data from that and does not require separate hardware kit to do solar excess charging. You still need an App to control it though, like ChargeHQ. OCPP basically let them talk to each other, so you can have charger, car, battery and solar inverter of different brands.

Can't imagine why you would buy this over a Tesla Wall Connector. No 3 phase. No wifi (software updates etc). Shorter cable. No OCPP (Tesla doesn't have it either, but it may have been a reason to buy this instead).

    • Excellent points. Also TWC has double the warranty length compared to this one. (PS. OCPP support should hopefully be coming to TWC soon https://www.solarquotes.com.au/blog/tesla-ev-charger-sa/ )

There was a statement from Tesla somewhere a month or two ago that OCPP is coming to Gen3 wall connector via software update at some stage.

I agree with your point though, nobody should buy this Ampol charger, Gen3 wall connector is superior in every way.

  • No app for it either. It worth $450.

  • seller name does not check out
