What Did You Buy During Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2024?

What did you buy during Black Friday up to Cyber Monday in 2024?

  • I bought some goods from Temu with Credit back rewards trick + cashback that may result in Profit. I used the Temu credit back rewards trick to get Temu credit $50 from my purchase of $70.89. Cashback from Topcashback is $27.73 (pending). I am claiming the temu credit every day for 7 days as required to get the temu credit $50 to use for next purchase. So, $50 credit back later + $27.73 cashback later = $77.73 from my purchase of $70.89. Profit 😄 ? If I get this cashback without problem, that means I get paid for shopping :P

  • I bought Surfshark VPN with 100% cashback through Topcashback. I have NordVPN and PureVPN already with cashback too.

  • Then I bought another PureVPN 140% cashback through Topcashback US with a different account (purely for profit cashback). Hopefully no problem and the cashback could be withdrawed successfully later.

Be sure to cancel the VPN subscriptions or you get a massive bill

    • Cancel through Paypal or just use Wise virtual card that can be deleted and replaced with new numbers (I did).

Did you buy anything during Black Friday?

      • +1

I'm stuck with the king of painful subscriptions with no idea where it originated, billed through a generic shell company with limited footprint, but I'm guessing it must've been quite common as it was Google AI who provided the one line of fine print that that says " in order to cancel you need to call 1300 between 9-5.

They've earned themselves $60 so far, another $18.75 coming up on Thursday if I don't get to it by then!

        • Try switching payment to a disposable credit card (e.g. Wise) and cancel the card

          • +4

@soan papdi: There's no place for such to occur, and they actively protect who they provide billing services for in order to be able to continue the withdrawals. It's ok, I've got a new card en route, it'll be the same number but the expiry and ccv will change so that will break that for me!

        • Chargeback

    • +4

FYI for anyone who has that issue, with Nord I complained to them when it autorenewed and they gave me three years instead of one. I've had an account with them for ages and they turned on autorenewal without me noticing (probably because I usually buy topups on black friday, hadn't done it for a while).

I didn't expect anything when I complained, so I was pleasantly surprised.

      • Is it because of your card? I think it won't be a problem if you use PayPal and cancel automatic payment in PayPal or use Wise virtual card then delete the card.

      • The chances that they enabled a disabled subscription service is highly unlikely. But how do you purchase top ups to a subscription based billing model?
Im not subscribed to me internet plan I just top it up when it needs it. The statement is a paradox

        • When I originally signed up it didn't have the autorenew button like it is now, it was added later. I've had a nord account for about 10 years.

You can pre-purchase as much access as you want, I usually add more during black friday sales. For example my account was set to expire at the end of 2026, but I bought two more years at their current pricing so now it's 2028. It's a lot like gamepass, where you can continue to stack it.

          • @freefall101: Is your card number still the same after 5 years? Maybe better get a new card with different number. For online payment, it's safer to use Paypal/Google Pay/Apple Pay as merchants don't know our real card number. Otherwise use Wise/Revolut virtual card number that can be replaced with new numbers.

  • +27

    Nothing 😭

      • +28

Not worth mucking around for such small values, and if there is a problem with tracking or renewals and it becomes a hassle to sort out.

        • -1

Easy. If not tracked within days, just ask for full refund from the VPN.

For auto renewal cancellation, just use Paypal for payment and cancel automatic payment after that. Or use Wise virtual card for payment then delete the card (get new number automatically). Few minutes effort at max ;-)

          • +3

@neoleo: I hope it goes well for you. I use cashback as a boost to a deal I would already buy.
The forum is littered with posts where bought a deal only because of cashback which failed to eventuate, causing them hassles.

            • +3

@mskeggs: Next post "VPN cashback declined AFTER money back period. Who could have anticipated this one weird trick?"

              • @mskeggs: Already got in total more than enough profit cashback from some previous PureVPN cashback (withdrawed) to cover a failed PureVPN cashback payment if it happen. I'll wait and see whether Topcashback US will pay the PureVPN cashback …

Now waiting for the next PureVPN profit cashback deal after my previous 10 Nov transaction ;-) from Topcashback AU (once a month).

          • @neoleo: Yeah i went over and they happily refunded me on a previous deal

        • -7

Clearly you're not interested in a VPN service then… Or your privacy. I don't see the hassle, but I guarantee you it pays better rates than your job does, even if something were to go wrong

          • +1

@parad0x: I mean, yeah? I don't need additional VPNs so buying them with the risk of things going wrong is a bit of a waste of time.
If you are concerned about privacy you might not want so many records linked to your VPN account, but I don't have a threat model that requires me to use VPNs from several suppliers.

              • @parad0x: Signup up for a VPN + associated risks > reading this comment

              • +5

@parad0x: Sorry, this seems a bit more emotional for you than my offhand comment about why I wouldn't buy multiple VPN services.
I hope it all works out.

              • +2

                @parad0x:

Everything you just said was a waste of time

Get a load of this guy everyone.

              • @parad0x: Time to get some fresh air, too much internet for you. But you probably have a dedicated VPN to do that with, some digital fresh air from another country no one knows you are getting.

            • @mskeggs: I bought Surfshark VPN recently with Proton mail. I only use all 3 VPNs for YouTube no ads testing. Additional purpose with PureVPN is for profit.

For adblocking, I use Adblocker app + Adguard VPN for system wide use + combined with NextDNS (block ads, trackers, etc.) as the DNS in the Adguard setting. So, double protection.

      • +4

It's more effort than it's worth.

        • -2

          Read my comment above

          • +5

@neoleo: Doing Nothing + potential saved time > profit/benefits + risks(time, sharing details, cashback failing, another useless subscription, etc)

              • @parad0x: If you need a VPN anyway, would 100% be using one of the 100% or 100% plus cashback deals after due diligence on a provider.

                • +1

@ihfree: NordVPN > PureVPN in my experience and testing. I wish there's 100% cashback for Proton VPN or Mullvad VPN …

                  • +1

@neoleo: There's good reason why those two services aren't given away for free though. Someone needs to do things in your best interests. Economics 101, everything comes at a cost

                • -5

@ihfree: Would you like to attempt that again so that it has some sort of meaning not just placing words in a linear fashion, wasting time and air talking beyond reality, just like I said.

                  • @parad0x: Nah, might do a 140% cashback after all

                    • -5

@ihfree: Congratulations. Anything else you need to talk about that is illiterate or nonsense?

                      • +3

@parad0x: I don't even know what this conversation is about as tldr, so couldn't say.

Anything else that you have in mind?

                  • +1

                    @parad0x:

wasting time and air talking beyond reality

                    just like I said

                    You got that right.

            • @ihfree: I kinda agree with this eventho I ended up shopping at Adidas and Chem Warehouse. Adidas tracking etc was fine and we got some massive bargains. CW system couldn't cope up and messed up my order. I ended up wasting time sorting it out and had to deal with Karen with minimum knowledge abt their own system…

          • @neoleo: You've written an essay. Ain't no one gonna read no essay

            • -1

@smartProverble: That's very short "essay" lol, not even 1 minute to read that 😂

            • +1

@smartProverble: @smartProverble you must be confused with @parad0x and their ramblings…

              • @smartazz104: Oh yes you're right…

Still, they both should get a room. VPN this, VPN that, like brah stf U and just chill to the next episode

                • @smartProverble: Focus bro 🤣. I am not parad0x, lol. Most of my posts and comments are actually helpful/useful. I inform profit deals, you don't want it? Up to you, everyone is different. You don't even have to use it, just buy it for the profit …

      thats money saved!

  • +3

Steam Deck white, PS5 pro using points, ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (AX5700), Mario stuff at Gamesmen, Vornado 2x with stand, New fridge for missus baking, and some household and babies stuff from amazon.

And the LEGEND PureVPN unfortunately, I am having problem sorting out this to my router. Will try this week.

    YOLO

    • Ummm I am not sure setting up PureVPN to your router is a good idea. At least NordVPN/Surfshark VPN work with YouTube no ads trick …

      • With Asus I have no probs with Nord just setting up one particular device, my missus KOREANOVELA at bedroom. Anyway, lets see.

  • +8

I bought jv a Christmas present.

  • +6

    Dyson because it sucks.

    • KFC because its foul.

  • +1

    Sony/bobjane made me broke :(

    • How much?

    • My local Bob Jane was freaking out on Saturday that he wouldn't be able to order the tyres I purchased for the offer price (something about end of month)… Apparently the stores didn't know that head office reverted back to 40% off and the offer runs through to 11:59pm Monday 2 December.

      They seem a little dysfunctional.

  • Planned - few IOT devices.

    Actual -

    • Few pairs of shoes
    • New clothes - Good timing as I noticed a few things happened to reach end of life just before the sales
    • Vornado - been watching out for one for a while
    • Doorbell - guess it counts as a IOT
    • Batteries - for IOT devices
    • Hue Hue Hue
    • PSVR - Now I need a deal on the Horizon game.
    • Are you me? (have we done this before?)

Picked up a doorbell and vornado myself; doorbell is yet to arrive, and not sold on the vornado being better than the Aldi ones we already had…

Also got a D1 mini to do a smart conversion on my Vindriktning, and finally pulled the trigger on an ESP32-S3-BOX3.

    • Its 29% off on the Sony store atm !!

      • Thanks!
I happened to see that last night and picked it up. I've played about 10m and so far I am impressed.

  • +3

I logged into my backup ISP to pause service and was shown this page - Yep, over $1000 of 100% referal generated credit!

No idea how or why but it started at the end of September, peaked at the end of October, and I've had nothing in the last 2wks. So over 200 referrals in the space of 5-6wks is a little bit crazy.

It's also amazing they let it keep going. It's not like I would've complained of they said that I was generating too many or to often etc. I'm barely a paying customer… I keep it as a standby for "just in case", bulk backup archiving to the cloud, or if I need to download Ubuntu's release archive, as well as update my RHEL package repo mirror, and start archiving my BSD collection, and the Mrs can still Netflix 4k :D

Haven't even looked at what's shopping, thinking I should quite whilst I'm ahead! Too bad they don't have a cashout button!

    • No cashout? Maybe that's why they don't care even if you get a million $ credit :P

Recently I got Tell-a-Friend Bonus $35 from Topcashback. I guess someone used my referral code in Ozb :)

      • It's an ISP man of course there's no cashout! But it's going to sting a tiny little bit when I decide to cash-in on that credit because they've still got to pay NBNCo. their monthly dues.

Yeh the old ozbargain referral lottery is a brilliant idea, because of the random small cash injections like that. I highly doubt that was the source of my Launtel wave though. Which leaves me no closer to actually knowing what was

Salomon Hiking Shoe (Like New with Tags) from Amazon warehouse + 20% cashback
3 Japanese esims at 30% off
1800 worth of Amazon Gift cards at 10%
$500 worth of Good Food Gift Card 10% and using Card.gift Bonus $10 gc from prior
    AMD Ryzen 9 9900x from eBay at $614 + $18 dollar cashback
Bedsheets and mattress protector from Target with 20% cashback
copy of teracopy pro half price
PureVPN 2 year subscription with 140% cashback

Probably have to add Windows 11 to the list because my machine just deactivated itself after upgrading from Ryzen 5 5900 to 9900x.

    • How much did you get the salomons for?

    • Ooh, thanks for the heads-up on Teracopy.
Been running the free copy for years, time to show my support.

Worked out to be $25 AUD when paying USD in PayPal

  • +6

Extremely poor discounts this year… What a joke

      • +3

That might be what the fancy graphics say, but do you actually think there's worthy items at 70% off their RRP?

        • This is how I framed every purchase ever since. Whether I can agree with the raw dollar amount for the value of whatever they're selling.

    • I thought so too!

Normally I've done all my Xmas shopping over the BFCM weekend.

But this year, pretty much nothing!

  • +3

I bought nothing. There really wasn't anything enticing in all the offers I saw. Unlike '50% off!' offers, I truly saved money.

    • -2

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881919

Up to 50% off Sitewide + Extra 20% off @ Skechers

stack with Topcashback for extra 6% or Cashrewards for extra 8%

      • +3

So what it really boils down to when you look beyond the bold fonts and flashy images is 20% off, and mediocre cashback. That's not Cyber Monday, that's an EOFY sale or any standard sale rotation really

  • Nothing. I was looking for work related items but didn’t find anything particularly good.

    • Not even in Temu/AliExpress? + cashback

      • +1

Two of the single most difficult places to find something that qualifies as 'particularly good'. I've ordered (by accident) the same product from 2 vendors. One was half disassembled eb route, but also of a much lower quality of overall manufacturing than the other. They both behave slightly differently too. And whilst I was sure it was required, they're both in my junk tech tubs because they just weren't up to scratch.

      • Nope, nothing.

  • +6

Moto 50 Neo for $200 but then not.

    • Better spec and OS update support than my $9 Moto G54 as a second phone. I have OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite 5G as my main phone.

      • $9 G54??
        I paid $29, gg

        • $9 if you have an active Amaysim plan when purchasing the phone. It's because no active Amaysim plan, people need to buy the sim card with $30 plan.

          • @neoleo: I paid $59 upfront and then got $30 refunded because I did have an active my SIM (which didn't even cost me real money). = $29.

You did well only paying $9!

My voucher was $150 I think.

  • Some steel cap runners for work, a few bits and pieces from Supercheap Auto / Autobarn, a security camera to keep an eye on my cars / front door. Nothing huge, I kind of wish I needed a new TV because that Hisense 100 inch for $2800 was very tempting.

  • -1

Nothing, I've practically have everything I need already in terms of washing machines, fridges, chest freezers, TVs, gaming laptop, gaming computer, 49 inch ultrawide monitor, security cameras, keyboards, mouses, subwoofers, speakers, workshop tools.

The only other thing I'll possibly need is another car to replace my Subaru. But then nothing really hits the spot atm. I want an SUV that looks tough (like the Haval H6 GT in dark grey)…. quicker than an SS Commodore, and to use little to no fuel. The new H6 GT PHEV may fill that need but it's not out yet.

It'll be nice to upgrade those things

  • +2

A bunch of auto parts that were in my watchlist list on eBay.

I pounced when they had the accidental 30% off everything for about 50 minutes.

  • +16

Nothing, honestly—I'm all set with just about everything already. I've got a crystal chandelier in my walk-in wardrobe, a high-end microscope for inspecting my caviar, a walk-in wine cellar, three hot tubs (one indoor, one outdoor, and one on the roof), a gaming throne with built-in massage and temperature control, a quantum computer (because why not), a 100-inch holographic display for watching sports in 3D, drones with night vision for delivering snacks to myself, a private weather station, and an AI butler that reminds me to water my bonsai trees.

The only thing I might consider is a private monorail to get me from the pool house to the main house without scuffing my slippers. But honestly, no one makes a monorail with enough elegance these days. Maybe next year if Elon comes out with something suitable.

Guess I’ll just have to manage without for now.

  • +1

Got some tools for my pizza oven. Nothing crazy.

  • Sony WH1000XM5 for $350, pretty good deal.

  • +1

    Peace of mind 🤭

    • +1

True peace of mind if you don't use any devices that are connected to the internet such as a dumb phone. How do you get peace of mind while getting bombarded by offering emails, a lot of deals etc.?

  • +1

A Bambu lab A1 3d printer combo, 10 rolls of filament, 32g memory, and a 32" monitor. All deals found on here I think.
