This Black Friday deal is from Apple through Amazon, with 10% off.

This is the base model M4 Pro in a 14" case. You don't get to customise it, which is imo no great loss - the Apple Store charges considerably more for 8GB more RAM to take it to 32GB, for more storage space, and for the nanotexture matt screen option. If you can live without those, the discount is attractive.

Your only choice is black, which soaks up the heat, but because it's a Pro processor it does get given two cooling fans, for more cooling performance when you need it. (Lesser M4 MacBooks Pro have only one fan, with no visible external difference - older models lost a USB port too). And you get Thunderbolt 5 instead of 4 on the three USB-C ports.

Buy this, and you might be AI-ready, and as futureproof as you can be.

Get jh deal for 2960. Then 5% off jb gift card for total 2812. Great machine.

  • wish i gone foe 24gb, i still see delay on simulator few times when running xcode on my 16gb m1 pro.

    • Hmm… has been no probs for me.

  • +3

Add that it's 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU.

Also, if you have AOC access, it's $2945.80. Cheaper with 10% back in Everyday rewards points. Which works out to be $2651.22.

    Or

Standard Apple Education store at $3069 with TopCashback's 6.5% cashback(still active btw) and 10% back in Everyday rewards points. Which works out to be $2598.89 (napkin math here).

    • +1

I think this is excluded from cashback. AOC with gift cards is a better bet.

      • You're right.

        Ignore the second option.

    • Hello what is AOC access? Apple Education price is $3,069.00. Please elaborate

    Good deal. I bought a MacBook Air 13" M3, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD for $1947 last week.

    • How did you get that? I'm considering an MBA over a MBP for the smaller size and less weight, and the lowest price I can find for that spec is $2,019.98 at Costco.

      • Exactly, how did you get that price mate?

        • I'm not the poster above, but it can be cheaper with Costco price match at Officeworks with 5% discount after price match, then pay with 10% off Celebration GCs (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/878372).

If you can't get GCs then it would still be cheaper.

A $3k laptop with 512GB SSD. They are taking the p1$$.

Then you should consider the M4 (non-pro) • 16GB RAM,
      • 1TB or 2TB SSD model which are around the same price? Some of us don't need the SSD and love the specs at this price. OP literally said

If you can live without those, the discount is attractive.

  • Hello, would love some mac related advice from anyone who might have more experience. If you wanted a device suitable for video editing, would you go for the baselines Macbook Pro M4 or opt for a beefed up Mac Mini M4 Pro.

From what I've seen you can get the baseline MacbooK M4 Pro 24GB RAM, 512GB hard drive for the same price as Mac Mini M4 Pro 64GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive.

Is the RAM going to make that much of a difference or is the upgraded M4 Pro 14 core CPU , 20 core GPU with 48GB RAM a better setup for video editing?

    • +2

I'm not entirely sure, but it does seem the base level Mac Mini would be able to handle general video editing, so I would assume the base Mac Mini M4 Pro or Macbook Pro M4 with 24GB RAM would be suitable for most editors. On Apple's website they seem to mainly recommend more RAM if you are a power user, which wouldn't apply to a lot of editors, unless you're doing a lot of graphic, or generative work, or frequently doing large exports. Though if you are a power user you might be better off waiting for the M4 Mac Studio to be released for a better deal, as the more you upgrade these Mac Pros, the less cost effective it is.

My friend sent me this comparison of the mac mini's which I found helpful.

TLDR - if you're not doing anything too graphics intensive or working in super high res, the base pro models are probably more than enough.

      • Thanks for that, and if I went for base model, would it be better to go up in RAM or go for M4 Pro base?

        • +1

I'm not sure sorry. which editing software are you planning on using? I would check out the system requirements for the software to help decide.

          • @dealbrry: Looking at getting the Pro Apps education bundle and using Final Cut Pro, have you used it before and would you recommend?

            • +1

@jb22: I have not used final cut pro since they redesigned it years ago. But if you're starting out editing it's supposed to be pretty user friendly with plenty of features, and I think you just pay for it once off. I've heard good things about Davinci Resolve too, which is free for the basic version. Depends what your aim is with editing, but if you're starting out, I'm sure either of those would be good choices.

  • 24 Gb of ram sounds amazing.
That said, I'm on 16 Gb and often needed to clear my ram.

  • +1

Is a 24 GB RAM overkill for basic browsing with few chrome tabs and writing code using vs code.

I am currently using a 2018 Air (256GB SSD/8GB RAM) and after couple of minutes of usage the fan immediately turns on. And sometimes it becomes unresponsive too.

    • +2

Yeah it would be overkill for sure - you would be perfectly fine with a base model (16gb) MBA M2 for some chrome tabs and light-medium coding. Intel vs. Apple Silicone is like night and day difference :)

  • Got this, extra 10% off using the amazon gift cards from last week! 😁

  • You Can get a Mac mini on sale now with the m4 pro and 24gb rams with 512gb storage for 1912

  • huh, this MacBook Pro is the same price at OfficeWorks.
