Apple TV $97 @ Harvey Norman

150

Cheapest I could find for an Apple TV. Let me know if I'm mistaken. Got the wdtv but returned it as I was more after something I can use to mirror my ipad to the TV.

OK price but it's useless without XBMC. And at this rate it looks like the ATV3 will never be jailbroken.

    • Agreed, ATV2 is $200+ on ebay, who would have thought a piece of tech could be an investment.

just like the old small ipod nano

        • Yep I've got several of those!

    • Can't be sure if this is true. Fingers crossed.

      • Crap. Better get my act together and sell my ATV2 while the prices are still high. SELL SELL SELL.

        • Why not? I already did. :)

      • That doesn't look very legit

Not being able to run XBMC is frustrating, but hardly makes it 'useless'.

Mirroring display from mac or ios device works like a charm. Given the choice between XBMC or mirroring I'd probably choose the mirroring.

Have you even used XBMC? Without it the ATV3 is limited.

No USB for HDD or thumb drive connectivity.

Mirroring is effective for displaying photos but for video in most instances unwatchable.

The only workaround is either Airplay or HDMI/Component but still that involves using another iOS device which defeats the whole purpose of using this as a dedicated media player.

Without a jailbroken ATV, WDTV stands as the better choice. With XBMC well that's completley different.

Still don't believe me? ATV2 sells for ~$150+ used. I purchased my brand new ATV3 for $87.

I haven't really used XBMC since my old xbox 1 died. But even then (4yrs ago) it was brilliant.

I have no problem whatsoever playing video with airplay mirroring (wifi). If I did I'd probably think the ATV3 is crap too. But as it works fine for me I feel obliged to rebut your claims that it's useless without XBMC. Could definitely be better, but not useless.

Totally untrue. I use it every day and watch BrRips without any glitches whatsoever.

For those that got the Target Amex $25 back if you spend $50 and also saw the OB post for $10 off a $50 spend the starting price of $109 at Target becomes $74

Or better yet: if you buy a Coles Group card at Target and go and pricematch this at OW….

      $97 at 95% = $92.15
      $92.15 - $25 = $67.15

And if you had two gift cards: $42.15!

I rang one of local target, they don't match this price and OW doesn't sell Apple TV

I had bought one for my dad and brother-in-law last Xmas —- I personally use my Apple TV almost daily to stream my MKV, AVI videos to my LED TV and it works great ! Use with Air Video or streamtome apps - they play everything without conversion and supported sub titles as well !!

You saying you could use the Apple TV directly with Air Video, or through a proxy like an iPhone or iPad?

      • Through an iPhone/iPad via AirPlay, because it's an iOS app. But you can also use a compatible Mac for Mirroring and just use VLC or QuickTime + Perian.

OP - So you returned the WDTV - hope you nave not claimed the $50 :)

    • That's what I asked above and some one negged me. It's a legitimate question. Several people talked about doing this.

      • no more neg for your previous question hehe

    • I actually did claim. Not sure if they will still send me the card now that I returned it.

      • If they do you will be getting a half price Apple TV!!

  • Can target match this price?

    • not sure - but David Jones did - i bought one yesterday.

    • No, they don't.

    • Big W matched this price no worries, and they didn't even call them to check for stock. The website is showing the full price of $109 now, so I used the Lasoo app to get them to match it.

  • I matched this price in myer. Firstly got $50 gift card from target through Amex which gets $25 cash back.
Total price is $72 plus myer one and credit card credits

    • What's really weird is that Myer always tells me they don't match prices — store-by-store policy?
