  • Can they receive SMS overseas without roaming like Boost?

    • -2

Just a small correction. Anything incoming or outgoing outside of Australia relies on roaming. What you're referring to is a roaming package, which is typically required to have cheaper access to data/calls/SMS when overseas.

So even though incoming SMS is free worldwide, on any carrier anywhere (AFAIK), it still relies on roaming to be enabled, but it does not require a roaming package.

In other words, the question you're asking is: does Aussie broadband support roaming?

And I'll let someone else answer that, because I don't know

      • yes, boost can receive SMS when I was overseas without buying roaming pack but of course couldn't reply.

I heard not all providers can.

        • I heard not all providers can

Yes that's correct, and that's just based on whether they support roaming or not

As long as the telco/plan supports roaming, you can receive SMS.

Some telcos support roaming, but have specific plans that don't have roaming

    • There’s roaming on an overseas network (your phone is connected to that network) and you’ll receive sms at no cost. You can make calls but it’ll cost you.

There’s also data roaming, a separate setting on your phone, which means you’ll use data and be charged for it.

General advice is to use the first and disable the second.

  • how bad is optus drop outs recently had a telstra drop out yesterday as it was pretty decent but then both sims went down

    Very competitive!

$35 a month for 220Gb of 5G (no speed caps- some wholesale providers cap downloads to 100 or 200mb/s) is very good, thanks OP.
