if only that was a 4070 super xD

RX 6800 is awesome value tbh

    • Yeah, I would have bought that RX 6800 but it's a tight fit for my mATX case (Kolink Citadel Mesh mATX) without completely removing RAM and cooler, which is a real hassle. Would have been great if it was a 2 large-fan model.

    • +3

Solid card even this late in the cycle. I bought one of those ex mining ones from metrocom for $479 in May this year and it's a trooper except for a smidge of coil whine.

    • I agree I'm just surprised prices haven't changed much.

I paid 480 for mine just over a year ago. Granted it was pre-owned but it was in exceptional condition (it basically looked new. Zero oxidization, very clearly had new thermal pads)

    • +4

It's been at this price for 3+ years… It should be ~$350 by now.

      • It is $350… But just if you convert to USD.

Considering a 4060 has only just gone under $350 and 6600s are still $290 new, we can only dream about upper mid level cards being that cheap.

    • -1

I thought it was RTX 6080…

  • reckon 4070 will get any better deals tomorrow?

    • +1

Fingers crossed, i was going to pull the pin on this 4070 Deal, but I will kick myself if something better comes up tomorrow and over the weekend

  • +1

So why MSI 4070 Super Ti only have two fans?

    • +2

its a short card so it doesnt need or even fit 3

  • -5

only if its a 4080 super

  • +1

Thought it was the 6800xt at first. Good value but 4 year old gpu now.

    • +2

It's not the XT model. Just the RX 6800, which is still a great card.

  • +2

RIP 4070 is gone already. That was decent value i reckon

    • +1

Its a 12GB card. Youd probably come to regret it so dont worry

      • Hang on, 12GB is considered low memory now? Maybe I'm a bit behind the graphics card trends, but when would 12GB not be enough?

        • Well for most games its usually enough. For things like graphic rendering its the bare minimum. Everyone seems to be focused on games, so they dont realise that VRAM has other important jobs too.

    • +8

Yep that's what brought me in here. Still running an 8Gb 3070 from before the pandemic price boom (there was a time I could have sold it for double what I bought it for) and haven't felt hindered by the RAM.

      • +3

still got my 1070 aswell but the 42 oled is really pushing it now. might have to get a 2080 in the next few years

      • +3

Same here, I was worried but it has never been an issue in reality.

      • +2

I had the same thoughts since I also had it around the pandemic year and is a non LHR version until I played Stalker 2.

That thing ate my 3070 like peanuts :(

        • Good thing I remember having motion sickness with Stalker 1.

    • +1

Yay, I managed to get it just before you made this comment.

  • Not bad value, how do people see it with the 5x series coming soon?

    • +2

Tim from Hardware Unboxed says to hodl, but I kinda disagree. People who buy mainstream card below 1k AUD imo should buy heavily discounted cards now (emphasis on "heavily"), because RTX 5070/Ti will be 1k+ AUD like last time with 4070/Super/Ti and only 5070Ti and above has >12GB of VRAM. Not to mention perhaps US tariff on China, which may affect AU prices as well.

      • Good info thanks. I'm in but if a weird spot. Currently have a 970, the 7800xt seems better value but unfortunately my monitor is an older hardware gsync.

So either save with a 7800, but look to upgrade monitor, out go a 4070 ti super

        Link to the above.

They suggested discount should be minimum 25%. Rrp.
I'm now waiting for prices to drop for a 4080 super.

  • RX 6800 or HODL for the next series to drop. Meant to be focusing on low to mid range with no plans for high end cards.

    • +2

Paid around $700 2 years ago, good GPU as long as you don't turn RT on or use upscaling, as DLSS 3 will be better for upscalling. Power consumption is great, around 190-210w stock, 160-180w with Undervolt and overclock a bit ( 3% faster). This should be similar to 7700xt right now, but you could wait for AMD and nVidia new generation, as they are coming out soon, unknown price though.

      • +1

Thanks. A $150 discount after waiting 2 years… Might as well wait another 6 months. Feels like that is happening all the time now, probably why I'm still using my RX 480.

Not interested in RT, and doubt Nvidia support RT or DLSS on Linux, so AMD all the way.

  • Might be time to upgrade the trusty 980 to the RX 6800.

    • +2

      Too soon.

  • +1

RTX 4070 Ti Super is on par with a RX 7900 XTX?

      • -1

I hate people who do that, just answer the f question man geez

        • +6

          Hahahahaha

I honestly don't know the answer. But, for the time it took to write the question on a bargain site, it could have been typed into google.

          • @Deviant88: i really love searching through google results of forums just telling the OP to search for the answer.

        • I hate when people ask stupid questions that they could just look up themselves.
          Dont be so f lazy

        • +1

I hate when people could google the question in the same time as typing it. I could understand maybe if it was something convoluted or niche.. Or even if they wanted opinions.

But jfc, this is very basic. A simple versus comparison and you're done.

        • I already did a google and the results were mixed. Some sites showed that the 4070 Ti Super was on par with the 7900XTX, some showed that the 7900XTX was faster and some sites showed that the 4070 Ti Super was faster.

The reason I posted on there was to see ppls point of view. Thank you to the ppl who were constructive with their replies and were not assume that I didn't do my research. Lesson learned, I guess next time I'll just ask this type of question on a PC forum.

          • @BlitzR: So your research shows exactly what it is. They're basically the same! Minor differences with certain tasks either way. Obviously Nvidia have major advantages if you're wanting ray tracing, AI, or even a lot of graphic rendering features and hevc encoding. AMD has the big advantage of 24gb Vram, which can also trump some of Nvidias special features. So you have to decide which one is more important to you

            • @Water Bearer: yeah the pros n cons with team green/red are that one has ray tracing vs more ram… I'm leaning towards the more ram since I dont really do much AI or ray tracing entensive gaming. But then again for the price of this 4070 Ti Super deal is tempting, its about $400 cheaper then the 7900xtx.

              • @BlitzR: The times you usually need more Vram is for high end 4K gaming. Also if a game has extensive camera panning with lots of details. So only a few games that vram would be needed. Since you're not using it for workload tasks where the Vram is really needed, 4070 ti super 16gb is more than enough

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX are high-performance graphics cards with distinct strengths. Benchmark analyses indicate that the RTX 4070 Ti Super has a slight edge in aggregate performance, approximately 2% higher than the RX 7900 XTX.
      Technical City

In gaming scenarios, the RX 7900 XTX tends to outperform the RTX 4070 Ti Super at higher resolutions. For instance, at 4K resolution, the RX 7900 XTX delivers about 11.6% higher average frames per second compared to the RTX 4070 Ti Super.
      Technical City

Regarding power efficiency, the RTX 4070 Ti Super consumes approximately 24.6% less power than the RX 7900 XTX, making it a more energy-efficient option.
      Technical City

In summary, while the RTX 4070 Ti Super offers marginally better overall performance and superior power efficiency, the RX 7900 XTX excels in gaming performance at higher resolutions. The choice between the two should be guided by specific use-case requirements and priorities.

    • +2
      • thank you.

    • +2

      More likely 7900XT

      • -1

        thanks mate.

  • +2

4070 TI Super is still cheaper from eBay's deal by $20.

If you're using the 22% off.

    • I think for $20 Id pay to get an MSI card. Also the MSI is smaller so more compatible with people's cases perhaps.

  • +6

Even Tim Cook can't segment as well as Jacket Man when it comes to mid range 40 series:

    Original 4070 12GB = direct successor to 3060 12GB but shifted up 1 tier
4070 Super 12GB = direct successor to 3060 Ti with 4GB VRAM upgrade. Same real world performance as original 4070 Ti 12GB
4070 Ti 12GB = fake placeholder card. Value completely destroyed by 4070 Super 12GB
4070 Ti Super 16GB = fake enthusiast card. Only 10% faster than 4070 Ti 12GB because the extra 4GB VRAM is mismatched with the unchanged 48MB L2 cache

    And the collusion continues:

Battlemage B580 12GB = announced next month, 4060 Ti'ish performance with extra VRAM
5090 / 5080 = January announcement, top tier only, no mid range
8800 XT = January announcement, mid tier only, no top range

    • i remember reading somewhere that AMD are no longering going to bring out a top teir card. So i guess they wont be bringing out something to compete with the 5090. I guess it might be because the 4090 was far superior to the 7900xtx.

      • AMD have stopped competing in PC GPU's full stop

They are more interested in making custom APU designs for Valve, Sony and Microsoft because on their own, Radeon lacks engineering talent compared to NVIDIA

When 8800 XT is announced with no direct 50 series competition, AMD will price it around the 4070 Ti 16GB / 7900 XT 20GB level and make a big song and dance about the new RT/AI features that they only developed because Sony pushed them on the PS5 Pro

        • such a shame. I guess Nvidia can now price their GPU as high as they want since amd are out of the picture and intel are not even close to them yet.

          • @BlitzR: Yes

HODL for the $4K 5090 preorder from TechFast

            5080 will be roughly $2.5K and equivalent to a 4090 16GB

      • I think it's better they focus on volume sales in the midrange and catch up with features anyway. If nVidia drop the ball as their focus is elsewhere, there may be a gap for them to get back marketshare.

They might be bringing some decent performance to the APU market which is good news in my opinion

        • I think it's better they focus on volume sales in the midrange and catch up with features anyway.

They skip competing with the 5090 and then… bring out the RDNA 5 9950 XTX to compete with the 6090?

Intel B580 12GB has been confirmed at US $250 making it AU $450

With 4060 Ti 8GB's going for AU $550, getting an extra 4GB VRAM for AU $100 cheaper is the kind of value that would actually be a deal

    • 4070 Ti 12GB was originally 4080 12GB, which is probably why the value is poor.

  • -1

Stick with proper brand names, none of this msi nonsense.

  • +3

    Why is the 4070Ti $1100+ in late 2024 🤪

    • High demand , it's a top card
      3090 performance for $1100
Don't think it will lose much value next year either

      • +1

'High demand' it's been 8 hours and 30 orders have not yet been reached as evidenced by the fact this thing is still sitting at the promo price whilst the 4070 sold out within an hour. Comparing it's 'value' to what was an extremely overpriced card (especially when comparing the 3090 to the 3080) that released 4 years ago in 2020 is also not a fantastic argument for its value proposition.

Though I agree that it may indeed hold its value if we see Nvidia price the next gen at top dollar again (extremely likely).

        • Yeah clearly isn't selling fast at this price.

        • It's not selling fast because for some reason people don't think 2 fan GPU is going to work
Throw out any popular 3 fan board and it will sell out in hrs.

Agree the value will hold as 4080s haven't buged either and new 50xx cards will be more expensive then current 4090

          • +1

@botchie: Even the 3 fan model posted earlier that can be had for even cheaper $1119 (or $1135 without ebay plus) has not gone totally gangbusters.

They've sold 50 GPUs total (have been monitoring the number sold since just before the code went active on that listing) in the entire 6 and a half days that the Black Friday 22%/20% off coupon has been active and they've got plenty of stock remaining. It's definitely not going badly sales wise, but currently supply is certainly greater than demand for this model at its current pricing even with Black Friday sale discounts

            • @AussieDeals: they are clearly selling enough stock to not need to drop the price - I thought it would be under $1k by now but here we are
not much of a discount even for BF deal
they do sell a lot f them in pre build systems as well for which they do deals that do sell out regularly

      • Doubt it’s high demand… under what conditions and for a 2 fan model? Yeah nah…

I’d expect the super/ti range to be similar to what the base model has been about a year ago.

        • under condition that its a top 2 fan card that is compact and fits in small cases with no thermal issues

          • +1

@botchie: hmm… unless you "really really" need that card right now (for a new build sure… for upgrading, yeah nah), i would wait for 50 series early next year tbh as the pricing is still meh for these cards. but yeah ymmv :)

            • @kaleidoscope: Pricing is meh but pricing for next cards will be worse .
Trump will bring Ozzie dollar down as well
NVIDIA will charge a pretty penny too

If your upgrading from last gen then yeah wait , no point
If you need a new build, get the new AMD chip and a card you can swap out later

  • -2

    hodl

  • No system deals? for BFriday

    • there have been BF deals posted here before - few weeks ago etc
not on the single day alone it seems
