  • They are not for car, right?

Not a car primary battery, no.

    Battery Box Options:

I have one of the older XTM ones and it is pretty good.

    • +1

also consider VoltX when Marketplace has a 25-30% cashback, will come down to $60 or less.
Kings was $49? few weeks ago, and note the pics of it only show 1 cable from terminal, whereas others show 2 cables

      • That VoltX looks litterally identical to the Kings one I have. Which is quite shit, but at a price point does the job.

    • 1.5cm too high to fit the XTM properly. Kings and VoltX (they're exactly the same as far as I can tell) are the ones that I'd come up with, and these comments seem to back that up.

      • Do you mean this battery will not fit the new XTM box even with the included spaceer for extra hight?

    • +1

garbage, they don't provide a decent seal.

I've got both hardkorr and ardent heavy duty boxes, screws seal the lid down.

      AussieBatteries

      • What does sealing do?

        • +1

I run them in the back of the ute, so prevents dust/moisture getting in.

          • @aussiekid: Oh right. I use it for camping so that's not an issue for me then.

          • @aussiekid: What? There is no way that thing is resin filled at that price.

It is not atmosphere sealed. It will not prevent moisture.

Issue with the kings unit is the holes on the top, allowing in rain. Not the lack of screw down lid.

I am glad you're happy with your purchase.

          • @aussiekid: I'm going to run mind in the ute as well. How do you keep the box secure so it doesn't move when travelling?

            • +1

@tatnal: I have my two batteries ratchet strapped down to a piece of MDF which is then secured to the rest of the canopy. Works very well.

            • +1

@tatnal: You can grab a battery box holder like $20-50, secure it to the floor or in my case false floor. Doesn't move at all.

                • +1

@tatnal: In my old BT, there were bolts on the side in the tub, so I lined them up, drilled the holes the mounting tray to match and refitted so the mounting tray was held down with the factory tub bolts. If I can find a photo later, I'll post it.

Google around, ebay or marketplace. I picked mine up for $30.
                  Mounting tray

      • +2

Yeah, double the price though. Everyone's use case is different. I have 1 of my batteries in a box and one just out, no issues with dust and/or moisture. I've got a roof vent in my canopy.

      • The Ardent box looks decent for the price.

I have a few cheapy boxes, the older xtm/Aldi/Kmart/Kings ones without Anderson plugs,

but added them fused and on the side as I like to stack things verically. Now I prefer to

upgrade and customise my boxes with a proper shunt battery monitor and add solar charging

or dc-dc charger or both, and 12v to 48v voltage regulators for a boost. I did get the new XTM box (20% off)

as it has some good features (recessed ports and usb C/QC3, 3 x circiut breakers), and has top flat for stacking

and compact, but has spacer included for higher batteries too if needed.

If you need a charger, I believe the VICTRON BLUE SMART IP65 12V/10A BATTERY CHARGER is the go too. It was recommended in a previous thread. I have one and it very good, Bluetooth feature is great!

    • +2

And when you use solar panels, the Victron SmartSolar 75|15 for $70.20 with code is a great choice. Unlike many MPPT controllers, it can handle up to 75V from the panel (generally household panels have the higher voltage output).

  • Didn't pull the trigger on this one last time: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873361

Get this one, or wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday for something else.

    • Buy this. Very light, prismatic cells. I bought two from the last deal and capacity as stated. This is a good price.

    • Get this, unlikely to be any cheaper.

  • If only Shopback was accepting the BFRI30 code - they have a decent % off starting on the 29th

  • 100A worth of lithium weighs 13kg minimum.
Bit like those 200w solar panels that are the size of a post-it-note.

    • +4

I bought one from the previous deal. My first-charge test results are here.

    • +1

Good EVE 100Ah prismatic cells are around 2kg each, so x4 = ~8kg, then you have case, wiring, and BMS on top of that…

A hell of a lot of reasonable quality prismatic 100Ah batteries are around 10.5kg…

(this deal is pouch cells it seems, so it's a little lighter)

    • +1

      Had 4 for 6 months, I get 100ah

  • What do you guys use this for?

    • +2

Powering electric outboard motor and camp fridges, and other 12v stuff.

    • +1

Off Grid Type Solutions for Camping etc.

I've got 2 from a previous deal to put into my Ute to replace 2 AGM batteries. Run my Camp Fridge, other 240v Power Items, Starlink, Two Way Radios. Have a Solar Blanket to help with keeping charge.

    • Power black out set with battery box and inverter.
Can keep some lights, fridges and computers going

      • +1

Would need to be a decent inverter and probably wouldn't last a long time. I wouldn't suggest loading it up a lot. Get a generator for that sort of stuff.

I've got a 3000W inverter on 2 x 100ah AGM batteries. It runs a number of things, Camp Fridge, Starlink with Mini PC and a few other small things plus 3 x 2-way radios, uses about 30% in 4 to 5 hours.

        • +1

Oh yes I can keep going pretty light on watts in a black out.
The main thing I care about is some lighting, the modem and the freezer (doesn't use much) 4-5 hours would cover most situations

    • Running boat electrics; electric motor, sounder, nav lights, usb outlet

      Running 12v fridge in 4wd

Always keep a fire extinguisher on hand people!

  • +1

I just saw that the 200ah version is double the price (plus $20 shipping). If you wanted 200amps for $20 it's worth getting the bigger battery rather than 2 of the 100ah ones, as you don't need to muck around with extra wires.

I have the 200ah one of these in the back of my ute and been very happy with it.

  • Good for a motorbike battery?
    I have a Honda cb500

  • Bought 2 last deal. One charged to 14.4 the other to 13.8. Maybe unlucky but I semt them back. Decided to go a single 200. Was waiting for the voltx to get cheap but hasnt. Renolgy seems to be well regarded but has a really bad after sales service name. Decided to buy this one for 470 after discount as the 85 item feedback ratings on ebay are all very positive and the seller has very high feedback ingeneral. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334588207645?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

  • wow great deal :)

    Cheaper at FAB with BF2422 $170.82 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/304315952043

edit: No free shipping so $200.82 at link

  • What do you use to charge these things?

    • +1

There's a link to a good Victron charger (OzB's favourite) above, but any charger with a LiFePO4 setting would be fine.

    • +1

Most would have a DC to DC charger in their Vehicle to charge the secondary battery.

    • Depends on your use case. Could be:

      • At Home Charger (with the Victron Charger I posted above)
      • DC to DC Charger for when driving
      • Solar Blanket/Panel with MMPT

Personally, I use all 3 methods. Charger when I am at home when I need to top up and not driving enough to provide full charge, DC to DC charger for when the ute is running and then Solar Blanket which I in a spot for a while (DC to DC Charger as Solar input option).

Need a 120ah one to go on sale

  • +1

    12v X 100ah is 1200wh right?
I'm a bit if a noob. What's the max output on these things and will they require a fan, inverter or does the output depend on an inverter? etc
Please be kind as my wording isn't too technical but can they be strung together for example; x4 batteries - 4800wh where I'm guessing a 3000w inverter can provide that output safely?
Again, I'm noob, please be gentle with me..

    • +2

The max output is controlled by the battery's BMS and it is 1C or 100amps but for safety and longevity I would stay below that.
You would need an inverter of whatever capacity you want, up to 1200watts and a lithium-capable charger OR a solar set up.
Inverter will have its own internal fan and thermal management
As for running these in parallel, they say you should not but people here have reported that they have successfully. The problem would be batteries' BMS's shitting themselves if it went wrong

Note that many of the common individual battery boxes' wiring is only set up for 50amps max.

      • +1

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I'm really wanting to have some sort of off grid backup solution (for fridge/freezer & assume lights etc) but the likes of bluetti & ecoflow solutions, seem very pricey considering how much a DIY setup would be with good quality batteries, inverters and cables etc. I need more sparky friends but YouTube has been my best mate when it comes to research & development. Again, thanks for your reply.
This battery will be good to keep my brass monkey going for a couple of days.

  • So I can get three of these, run them in parallel for 300ah at <$599?

  • @skooter I found a decent battery box for ya mate. $85.76 with ebay plus.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881642

  • how long can it run a Watersnake Venom SXW 34lb?

    • There's way too many variables for anyone to say, boat size and weight, what speed you run the motor at, wind/water conditions and so on…

But: at max speed which I believe is 34 amps, in theory you should get close to 3 hours (realistic is probably 2.5 hours)… at min speed, 7.5amps, you should get about 12 hours, 10 hours is probably realistic…
