Finally biting the bullet to replace our cheapo Ozito that runs out in about 5 minutes…

Are you sure it isn't that battery that requires replacing?

I've had no issues with my 18V Ozito blower for years. Yeah, the 2.5Ah battery is a bit small for it, but put a 3Ah or 4Ah (or now even bigger) and its great.

    • +3

It's always had a pretty average run time. We bought it cheap when we moved into our place as a (now 4 year) stop gap. Have other Ryobi tools so makes sense in my instance to switch over the leaf blower as well.

      • +1

If you are already in the Ecosystem, then yeah, sure a good idea to convert.

  • +3

Price decent but it’s pretty low power, ended up upgrading to the EGO blower and while it was much more expensive, it gets the same area done in a fraction of the time.

  • +3

I've got this blower and wouldn't recommend it… Mostly because the battery died in a relatively short amount of time considering the amount of use it had. Ive been using 2Ah batteries in it since and it drains them really fast so I wouldnt consider those a good option.

    • +6

Using 2.0-2.5Ah batteries in a blower is the problem not the product itself. This is a 4Ah kit too. I get decent runtime out of 4 and 5Ah batteries (the old model fwiw).

Any respectable blower is going to pull a lot of power.

      • +2

The battery that died was teh 4Ah… I was saying i dont recommend based on my 2Ah experience which obviously is not ideal… But Ryobi charge criminal amounts for their shit batteries

        • +1

That part for sure. Personally, I think it's a bit silly when people use RRP battery prices to then make the tool sound cheap when most of the major brands charge ridiculous amounts for them, or even people using the RRP of Ozito batteries lol.

          • +1

@dufflover: Mate when I go and buy a printer, they're basically giving me free money (based on the RRP of new printer cartridges).

You're killing the dark pattern vibes that companies use. Chill out and let me live my life in peace with my rose coloured glasses.

        • But Ryobi charge criminal amounts for their shit batteries
Aren't all other brand, except Ozito, doing the same?

          • +2

@Averell: Anecdotal, but I have Ozito, Ryobi, Black&Decker, and Makita batteries and 3 Ryobi ones and one B&D battery failed after a year or two. Others are still going strong.

  • +3

Get a variable speed blower if you can, much better to use.

  • +4

I like this blower, using a 4.0 battery gets me a decent area done, for the price, no complaints

  • God I want their brushless compact workshop blower so bad but at $149 tool only, and not being in the Ryobi ecosystem, it's way too expensive for just drying my car.

    • +1

I recently bought that blower. It is really, really good. I have a pretty small yard and it has more than enough power for that,

It's way better than my small Makita blower for the garage, and with the accessories the Ryobi comes with, it's very adaptable for all types of use. And nicer/lighter and way less bulky to use than the Ozito jet blower I have, which really is a bit of overkill for my needs.

Only downside in my mind is it's a bit noisy, louder than my Makita but a bit quieter than the Ozito.

Perhaps have a look at a battery adaptor? Or the $49 2.0AH battery and charger kit posted yesterday. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/900871

      • +1

Yeah I saw your post yesterday on the battery and charger kit - thanks for that, it almost pushed me over the edge. What kind of run time are you getting with a 2.0Ah battery?

I'm trying to switch away from my Ozito jet blower too. It's way too heavy, loud and, as you say, overkill.

        • +1

I haven't actually used it long enough in one go to flatten a battery, so I just went and timed it for you.

A 2.0AH fresh off the charger, locked on flat out, and non stop, got 5mins 10sec. So pretty much as I expected and on a par with any other blowers I have ever used.

          • +1

@revheadgl: Wow not bad at all - I'm convinced. Greatly appreciate you went to for that - cheers!

            • @AlbiesDad: Not a problem. Happy to help. I reckon its well and truly enough to dry off a car. And it cleans off off my driveway and back patio area with plenty of battery left.

I would be interested in what you think when you get it. Perhaps drop a message here please?

    • I've got that blower. 3D printed a new nozzle for it and it does an incredible job of drying the car. highly recommended

Imagine having a yard big enough to need one of these 😭😭😭

    • +3

It is perfect for blowing the leaves off an apartment balcony.

      • Or to dry your car after washing it

    • I have this one and it's too small for our 800sqm block. The front garden is just trees and bushes which drop leaves, then there's the paving all around the house… Looking for recommendations for the best Ryobi blower still in the 18V ecosystem.

  • I need a new blower, but my last Ryobi lasted 3 years, one of the jet blowers, motor crapped itself, it isn't sealed from the airflow and has no filtration before it :(

  • +1

This thing blew up on me after about 12 months and they had several others behind the counter from returns. Replaced it with the slightly more expensive brushless version which so far seems to be much better.

    • +1

which brushless version are you talking about?
      Thanks

  • +1

IF only the extra batteries werent so expensive…
    they dont last long

  • +1

Battery is 148 alone… good if you needed a spare battery and a blower. Will pick this up and lair it with the $599 6mAh 18V 40cm Mower.

  • I have this blower.

It has uses but pretty weak.

For big jobs I go back to the corded Ryobi that I had before cordless became so popular.

Of course it is most handy for when cords cannot go like up the roof for gutter cleaning.

  • The replacement Batteries are so expensive.

Anyone had good experience with 3rd party batteries from eBay, AliExpress or Amazon?

    • +1

      No

    • +1

IMO it ain't worth the fire risk

Ryobi does a 2 for 1 battery sale once a year

  • -1

    No variable speed no thanks

    • Thanks for letting us know

  • +1

got too many spare chargers and these kits… should just go get the 3 pack battery straight

  • Good kit, we've had one for nearly 10 years, used weekly, can't kill it.
