    Thanks OP

  • Thank you. Is this today?

    • +1

      Tomorrow

    • +3

This post shows as starting 11pm today if you're in QLD however it's likely starting at midnight and this is a DST issue with this post.

  • i need a jack and jack stand and oil cool

    • +12

I think Jack usually works for eBay. Please don't invite him to this store as well šŸ˜‚

      • +14

The car battery I was looking at, was $303 till 2 days ago. Suddenly it has become $379. Jack is in town.
So even after 20% discount tomorrow, it is going to be back to 303$. So all in all, no real discount!

        • +1

So jack's already settled in for the big day šŸ™

        • +3

Yeah this is everything now, faux sales even food. As long as people see big numbers thats all they care, only Ozbargain does the research.

You literally sell more saying was $2 now 50% off super sale $1. Than just saying $1 normal price. And some people still buy when its high, and sometimes only do 30-40% to test sales.

          • +8

@Kommodore: Yea, I understand what you are saying. This '50% Off' culture that Woolworths and Coles has promoted is utter BS. No fair pricing anywhere, prices jacked up! I've not ever seen similar stuff in Netherlands when I was living there, or in Europe for that matter.
Our regulators are sleeping over the issue.

Also on the subject of food, in NL, I would see food nearing expiry(cake, chicken etc.) to go on sale 2-3 days before expiry. But here, these 2 companies put the items on sale only on day of expiry(or maybe just from evening a day earlier). Many times, these items don't get sold and go to trash. Imagine the wastage these companies are creating by greedy tactics.

            • +2

@Sub: Markdowns at the 2 supermarkets I've worked at work like this -

              Best Before
Can be sold on the date listed. Gets marked down the day before and left on the shelf until final markdown, where it gets moved to a different fridge (and further marked down)

              Use By Date
Must be sold before the date listed (have also seen that it must be sold by midday of that date). Gets marked down 2 days before expiry with final markdown happening the day before listed

So there's a 2 day window of opportunity for each of them to be bought

        • +1

Century batteries were 20% off in the last catalogue (7/11 to 23/11). That is why the price has changed.

        • SCA sale just started and I bought the battery - Century ISS Stop Start Battery S95 EFB MF 680CCA.
Good news is that, the discount on the battery is 30%! yay!
So, got the battery at $265.30. Not bad SCA.

        • +1

It's actually ridiculous that you have to know the price of what you want before it goes on sale, to track whether it even is on special. Not everyone can do this.

          • +1

@TeamSAXON: Yea, agree. That's what I was talking about above. The companies play so much with the prices that unless you track prices, its difficult to figure out what is real sale/discount and what's regular price. This is big issue here in Australia.

          • @TeamSAXON: Various things are on special (ie below normal selling price) every week or two, as catalogues come and go. Items and prices fluctuate. It's very rare that a catalogue discount price can be stacked with a broad 20-40% off sale and unreasonable to expect so imo. Sub's initial suggestion about "jack" proved to be wrong, as have other comments on previous similar deals. Point is - use a search engine to compare prices (inc delivery if necessary), learn how pricing cycles work, and don't have unreasonable expectations or you'll be disappointed.

            • +1

@Igaf: If prices fluctuate/reduced 20% in weekly/bi-weekly catalogue at certain frequency, then I will have to say that the full price cannot be considered a fair/real price. So, I think that the full price is jacked up price and not the fair-real price. I agree with few other points and disagree with few. Anyhow, I think everyone have their own prism to look at these things. Peace out.

              • @Sub: The prism of entitlement rears its head regularly on this site. Retailing isn't that complicated, or difficult to understand.

Prices of different items are reduced regularly. to stimulate business in relatively quiet times. Businesses know that often people (not Ozbargainers generally) will also make spur of the moment purchases at full price, and/or additional didn't really need it but purchases. Most buysinesses need that to happen to cover the cost of the big discounts and mega sales days.

Legally (under ACL), if a discounted price is offered regularly enough then that becomes the regular retail price (which is the basis for % off sales - RRP is expressly forbidden unless it's also the regular price) so retailers must rotate the products on sale in their weekly/monthly catalogues,

IF you really have evidence that SCA or any business is flouting the regular retail price law then it's a simple matter to lodge a complaint with the ACCC. Most on this website take the far easier option of writing - sometimes reasonable, usually inane - comments about "jack". Human nature in action.

Jack is an independent contractor and his services are getting more and more in popular. Good for Jack bad for us OzBargainers.

    • Who doesn't need a good jack

  • +1

Didn't know there are wireless CarPlay and Android Auto adapters, don't need one but good to know the option is there.

    • +1

Can get good ones on Amazon like $20 delivered. Work a treat.

      • +2

Just be careful and be sure to read reviews. Every single one i have looked at, even the $100 ones, all introduce some level of lag VS direct cable, for that reason alone, I have opted to stick with direct USB connection.

        • What sort of lag are you referring to?

          • @magic8ballgag: Screen responsiveness and commands, some report slight lag, to several seconds, as if they went into low power standby.

          • +1

@magic8ballgag: I bought ottocast for around $50 for my Suzuki Vitara. Takes around 10-15seconds on startup to connect to Bluetooth. Screen responsiveness is not an issue for me.

        • Iā€™m using a Xuda one from AliExpress for $28 and it has no screen lag at all. Changing tracks is like maybe 200ms slower than cable but you get used to it.

      • Which do you recommend, from Amazon? Need for Isuzu DMAX - andriod.

        • I don't know about the car compatibility, but the I can only recommend one as its the only one i know off that was regard as one of the best (not necessarily the best but one of) and that is the one from Motorola, which, unfortunately is expensive, like $100+

    • +2

They're great in concept, but the cheap ones (used to be) a bit hit and miss. Sometimes wouldn't connect. Also defeats the purpose if you still need to charge your phone by cable. Combination of wireless caplay/AA and wireless charging makes your phone really HOT though. I used to do this in my old 330i and Galaxy S23+ and the phone would pop up with an error message saying it's too hot sitting on the wireless charger tray.

      • Totally agree with you here. But it can be useful for cars where you want a clean look cockpit, and maybe have charging USB ports in like the glove box, so wireless adaptor near your radio, and phone in glovebox. TO be honest, some car designers really stuffed this up, and really didnt think it through, very lazy to be honest.

Finally time to mate that half price oil I've had sitting around for a few weeks with an oil filter

  • OK, then waiting for 40% off these current prices:
    Gulf Western Syn-X 6000 5W-40 20L($267.99)
    Penrite Enviro+ 5W-40 7L($110.99); 10L($159.99); 20L ($271.99).

ebay spare box might be cheaper + code

      • +1

Always a good idea to check their direct website prices. Sometimes cheaper.

      • I know, but if 40% off then they defeat sparebox + ebayplus codes

        • Usually up to. Supercheap is known for price jack chuck on the weekly 20% off then call it a deal

Lets see if EUFY products go on sale been waiting to buy a stand alone Eufy camera

    • +1

      Yup waiting for eufy!

  • Anyone have suggestions for best degreaser to remove engine oil off concrete??

    • +2

      Um, probably any?

    • +1

you will still end up with a stain that will fade over years no matter what spray you use. plenty of ecperience with this one.

    • +2

If you're patient enough, buy a bag of rags and a 4L of turps. Soak the rag, lay it over the oil stain, wait for it to dry, and repeat.

If that doesn't work, buy a 2L of orange juice and drown your sorrows.

      • Based manosphere and concrete enjoyer
I'll give the turps one a try. I have old stencilled concrete and no retail degreaser nor 2100 psi of pressure can remove my brothers diesel oil stains

        • Test the turps in an inconspicuous spot first, in case it affects the stencil.

        • +1

Try a solid that absorbs oil. I had a few sandbags for flood mitigation stored on the driveway, sometime later (days, weeks, months I don't remember) the concrete under was spotless. I suspect the sand had some clay in it.
          From AI:
          Clay cat litter
Also known as oil dry, clay cat litter is a common absorbent material for oil spills.
          Sand
Hydrophobic sand can absorb oil and biodegrade, making it useful for environmental cleanups.
          Cornmeal, cornstarch, or baking soda
These can be used to absorb oil from wet spills on concrete or driveways.
          OS Powder
A super-absorbent powder that is non-hazardous to the environment and can be used to clean up oil spills on water and hard surfaces.

Even after trying those water based degreasers I find myself reverting back to those $3 aerosol cans :/

  • Any suggestions for a decent electric pressure washer?

There's Bosch ones on sale on Amazon now and I have a Karcher K2 that's been going strong for a few years now.

      • My Karcher k2 is nearly 20 years old now. Still going!

    • My recommendation is to buy a cheap bunnings one, so that when it craps itself you can exchange it easily.
If you are looking for a premium product, buy Kranzle or something made out of stainless steel and brass, with a dedicated diverter valve.
      Don't buy Gerni

  • +11

Make sure you shop around before purchasing. I was gobsmacked at how uncompetitive they now are on a couple of Turtle Wax detailing items I might have been interested in. The TW Seal N Shine is priced at $39 - roflmao.

Just noticed that Repco an auto club member deal until 30 Nov. 15-20% Off Almost Everything Storewide,
AND a 25-40% off BF sale. Worth comparing before you buy.

  • Sweet, I've been waiting for a sale to get one of the ToolPRO-X kits :)

  • +5

don't forget to stack with 15% off tcn choice

    • goddamn i wish i had have read this before i went in today. this time of year does my head in i swear.

  • good deal, they hardly ever do 40% off

  • Any recommendations for Garage Storage Shelves ?

    • +1

Depends what sort of stuff you are storing. I love these but I only buy them when on special.

      • Thanks, just storage boxes containing toys, tools, sports gear etc

        • +1

Would recommend what I linked above. The smaller ones are not that great for big things. I am slowly buying more of the bigger ones.

      • Was reading the reviews, people mentioning that they have installation issues with bracket - did you face the same ?

  • I'm after an applicator for car leather seats.
    Bowden's Own Square Bear?
    Mothers leather cleaning brush?
    Microfiber cloth?

    • Square Bear is good, have a look at the gyeon leather kit from repco as well.

Can anyone recommend a tourqe wrench - nothing fancy, non digital is ok with me.

    • +1

Bought their ToolPro X model recently after a mate unwound my Kincrome one to damage it's calibrated mechanism. The ToolPro set is good, comes with extension and common deep sockets within the set. Good price too.

    • I did some research and bought a Norbar from Total Tools. I would also trust Toledo

      • Cheers for all ypur replies, it gives me somewhere to start looking. Gonna pull the trigger tomorrow on this sale!

  • Perfect, my car battery is dying …

  • Bought something today u reckon I can get a refund for the difference

    • +4

If you scanned/used your Club Card, you should get a credit of the difference to that account.

    • Buy again at discounted price and refund using the old receipt.

Does anyone know the 2011 Corolla hatchback battery model and size ļ¼Ÿ
    thank you

    • Enter your car into my garage and it will show you which batteries are compatible

    • The SCA site will tell you what battery suits. Enter your vehicle details and it will list suitable options.

  • +2

Then once Supercheap tells you- go the the battery brand website and double check

  • Guys, How are EXIDE car batteries compared to Century battery sold on Supercheap Auto?
Looking for start-stop EFB(Enhanced flooded batteries) for Diesel suv.
Getting Exite battery for $245 vs $303 for Century ISS Stop Start Battery S95 EFB MF 680CCA?
    Thanks

    • I replaced my worn Century start-stop with an Exide earlier this year so I can't comment on long term performance but I got the Exide from Costco and the price difference meant that I could nearly buy 2 Exides for the price of a Century. Worth checking out if Costco is a practical option for you.

      • Thanks, let me check.

  • whats good to buy? i'm ready to buy tons of crap for christmas.

  • +1

Need an air compressor to clean around the house lol (big job)

  • +4

If anyone has ebay plus membership and are patient. I would highly recommend to compare this with ebay sellers like Sparesbox etc. They are still cheaper with these bloated discounted prices.

    • +3

Agreed, sparebox regularly have 15-30% off ebay which stacks with the 15-22% discount codes, giftcards and occasionally cashback.

      • +1

Put em in your cart, apply all discounts, take a screenshot and SCA will match it.

Use 10% discounted SCA giftcards to pay.

        That's a real sale ..

    • They generally wont pricematch exclusive pricing, ie paid memberships.

Sparesbox, Automotive Superstore, a1autoparts, Nolan, Strathfield car radio, genuine edge, online auto parts, everybattery and ofc amazon, repco and autobarn are the ones off the top of my head are the best for price matching.

Also supercheap is doing direct to basket price matching now, like jbhifi, which is slightly faster, but oldschool coupons from sca are unlimited redemption and not user specific,

So if you add a coupon code to your cart, the entire catalogue of items that have been price matched with traditional coupons that day show up as their price matched prices.

Coupons apply before the 20-40% off (historically true, probably still is)

  • Sale has started guys, website is updated with new prices.

    • What new prices, some items cheaper, most items rrp added and original sca price from yesterday

  • Website down all night.
Even when its running its a dial up speed website and Supercheap have made no attempt to fix it.

    • Was fine at 1am when the sale started?

  • +1

Don't expect much from the Jackals, but frustration.
    Penrite Enviro+ 5W-40 10L: SCA $128; Autobarn: $112.50; Sparesbox eBay plus code: $102.50, 20L: $187.00.
    K-Seal: SCA: $26.50; Autobarn: $23.25

  • Mmmm I love a good price jack.

  • This is such a waste of energy
