I use them to control lights with home assistant and still keep a physical switch
Do your lights get "Backwards"? I.e Someone turns on the light at the switch, then turns it on via homekit - would the switch now be in the "off" position while on?
Use a momentary (push button) switch and not a rocker switch (where "up" is on).
@zuccs: If you gotta replace them all anyway, is Shelly still better then the "Smart" switches?
@Smitty1997: The benefit of Shelly (or any in-wall) switch is that you don't need to redecorate your whole house. But if you have flip switches, you would need to replace that mechanism too, yes.
Shelly is really solid and I would use that over any smart switch from Bunnings. Philips Hue is great, but then you need that whole ecosystem. All the Bunnings stuff (Grid Connect) is just rebranded Tuya stuff.
Shelly uses Wi-Fi, but there are other (arguably better) protocols you can use depending on your house setup. You can also flash Shelly's with (Apple) HomeKit which is nice.
This can be set in the shelly’s setting. Its has 6 modes as follow. (And yes, the light can be on while the wall switch is “OFF” but home assistant knows the state of the switch AND the state of the light.. 2 seperate sensors )
Momentary - Set Shelly device to be "Momentary" switch. Push-for "ON" or Push-for "OFF".
Toggle Switch - Set Shelly device to be "Toggle" switch. Act as a flip switch with one state for "ON" and one state for "OFF".
Edge Switch - Set Shelly device to be "Edge" switch. Changes state on every hit.
Detached Switch - Set Shelly device to be in "Detached" switch mode - switch is separated from the relays.
Activation Switch - use it for motion sensor. Any input turns "ON" and resets Auto OFF timer.
Picked up some relays and dimmers at half price. Thanks!
Would it be possible to connect this to two roller shutter?
You are after a shelly 2pm. I have those controlling my hvac dampers.
Any recommendations for shellys that dont require a neutral wire?
dimmer 2 is the only option at the moment
I've got one in use downstairs as I can't run a neutral there but never changed the switch so when flick the switch physically, it goes offlineThere use to be one call “Shelly 1L” it’s discontinued now. But as with most non neutral smart relay, it will need a resistor by pass which sometimes more trouble then just to get a sparky and run a neutral wire down for you or connect the shelly inside the light fixture.
Do wifi devices directly link to home assistant hub?
Yes there is a shelly plug in
Most of these stuff are cheaper at Amazon and very easy to get free shipping. $200 for free shipping is steep.
Anyone have a suggestion about a hub which I can use to have a Shelly command control a Tuya device?
Need one for the in-laws and want something simple but reliable. Home Assistant is powerful but not the simplest. What are you trying to control? The Shelly is fine itself no need for hub, and how the Tuya fit into this setup ?
I am using a shelly behind a light switch to target the light on a tuya ceiling fan.
Trying to keep the experience as close to normal as possible (light in room is controlled by light switch not remote)If you install the shelly1 behind that light switch. the switch still work to control the light (it might be in different position at times but if you set it as edge switch it should work as “normal”)
@huu: Yes but I need the shelly to give a Tuya command (not actually switch the physical switch - ie disconnected mode)
I can do this at home with Home Assistant - it reads the shelly input (switched) and targets the Tuya command via the plug-ins.What I am seeking is to translate the Shelly command to control the Tuya device with a simple, off-the-shelf hub.
What do people use these for?
