  • I bought this not knowing it keeps the pot warm for only 2h. Really stupid.

    • just press the on button again and you get another 2 hrs

I bought this for the office and it's been a great batch brewer

Really want this but can't after listening to podcasts about microplastics and hot water touching plastic.

      This.

Agree but the water in this shouldn’t be boiling, but I’m not aware of what the science around temperature vs microplastics says (assume hotter = worse).

I’ve switched our kettle for a dual wall one with full internal stainless (including lid).

I have a soft spot for these coffee makers, they were big when I was a kid in the 80s, and we’re in every 80s movie and TV show. I think they make half decent coffee, you just don’t want to leave the brew sitting there a couple of hours before drinking.

But if you look at people 100y ago who didn't use any plastic, they didn't have a longer lifespan so.. When do we go ok, is it really something to complain about or not..

      • +1

This is a flawed argument, because our understanding of current lifespans is based mostly on people who were born 70-100 years ago, long before use of plastics and forever chemicals became highly prevalent/ubiquitous in all aspects of life.

We don't know the life expectancy of our own generation (unless you happen to be over 70), because we have grown up and lived/will live most of our lives under entirely different conditions.

Lifespan and quality of life are different things. Latest research is suggesting plastic can affect neural development (autism/ASD/ADHD), gamete quality and organ health. Sure health care can keep us alive longer but maybe without lots of plastic in our systems, our quality of life over that time period might be less complicated.

        • +1

The fact is, we don't know the life expectancy of younger generations. We only know the average lifespan/expectancy of people who have died or are very old right now. These people grew up and lived under entirely different conditions to the younger generations.
