Pixel 9 benchmark performance appears lower than the current snapdragon gen 3 let alone snapdragon elite. Could be a factor in choosing a flagship

Yeah, it was $549 after trading in a phone ( I traded in an old 3G phone for $0 ), and you also got a bonus $200 gift card for pre-ordering.
I had issues with battery life due to the modem / local signal strength, but otherwise one of the nicest cheap phones I've ever owned.

Ask in store if they can do a better deal. I got the pixel 8a yesterday for $599 and the $60 gift card. I then used the $60 gift card to purchase the fitbit charge 6 which they droppped to $179, making it $119 using the gift card.
I tried this and all they would do is take $5 off… Even TGG will give you $10 off if you use their Price Beat button (down to $637). Sounds like you're a good negotiator!

I said to them that I wanted to buy the pixel 8a and the Fitbit charge 6, what is the best deal they can do for me. He then put them through in seperate transactions so I could use the $60 gift card from the phone on the Fitbit.
I paid under $200 on launch after the trade in offer. Good phone apart from the battery life.

Yeah I did "click and collect" and they said they would email the gift card, but I got nothing…
apparently it's within 14 days or something. probably worth hounding them after 7 days though just in case

Bang for your dollar i grabbed this, updating from my Pixel 6. 7 years of updates sealed the deal. They issued the $60 GC at the counter in a sort of receipt / account (used for cover).
Waiting for a sub $600 to pull the trigger 🙏
