I think it's actually faster than 30 minutes to install. also solid things to have!

    • +1

Absolutely. Hardest part for me was finding the clips to undo the cover of my roller door controls.

The open/closed sensor is a bit picky I found but it could also just be my door as I had to stick it to the ground. There wasn't anywhere else it would stick and stay

      • +1

For me the hardest part were to found 2 chair that can stack together nicely. Haha. Do no imitate!!

  • +8

Purchased one of these months ago and finally got around to installing it. Wasn't too difficult and it works fantastic. I find it especially useful for that thought of 'did I remember to close the garage door?' when I've made it a decent distance from home. Plus setting up the 10 minute warnings for when the door is left open is great.

    • -3

Mangs I did this exact thing but was 5 minutes away from home and came back to check and then when I was on my way again to a store… it was closed when I got there. I need one but was worried that this comes from China.

      • +1

Last thing I need is the Chinese knowing when my garage door is open.

        🤔

  • +1

i have one of these aand they area amazing and super easy to install

  • +1

Agree this is easy to install and works well.
My current issue is HomeKit stopped working with my iPAD, so now I need a cheap HomeKit HUB, missed the last Apple TV deal, may need to resort to Marketplace.
Have teenage kids that drive, this has been good piece of mind "overtime door warning", yes they have left the garage door open and driven off.
Also handy peace of mind, when on Holidays.
Notification wise still works well without the home kit, just the "open garage door" icon on the Apple CarPlay screen no longer works.

    • +1

Yeh considering hub options too 👍🏻 can use pod/pod mini too afaik

    • You can just use the meross app and skip HomeKit. I gave up on linking assistants after a week when I found they were only adding inconvenience.

As soon as I tried taking the iPad anywhere or didn't have it plugged in 24/7 it turned into a useless integration.

      • +2

I do miss the CarPlay integration though, worked for over 3 years. So handy when arriving home, not having to fumble for the garage remote. These days with Keyless Entry\Lock, I don't even take the CarKeys out of my bag.

    • Same issue here. Also waiting for Apple TV again.

  • +1

Has anyone got this to work with a Sliding Gate motor?

    • interested as well

    • +3

Reports on Reddit say it's fine. At the end of the day these just mimic a button press across both contacts. You just need to make sure the sliding gate motor has open terminals to interface with.

    • Not sliding gate but installed with leaf timber gates no problems, anything you can get alignment on the magnet and detecting end is fine

    • Yes, I have it working with a BFT A600 gate motor. There's a comparability function on their website, that provides a simple wiring diagram for your gate motor.

I wasn't sure of how to power it from the BFT circuit board, so at the moment power is sourced from a usb connection plugged into external 240 volt powerpoint that powers the gate motor.

If anyone knows how to draw power from the BFT circuit board that would be great to know.

This saves buying additional remotes as l can use any phone for opening and closing the gate and it tells me if the gate is open or closed from my phone in any location. The BFT branded circuit board was something like $400 to do the same thing.

I am using the non-Homekit version, not sure if that makes any difference.

    • I have, with an Mhouse SL1. It was a little more difficult than for the garage door but still only took about 30-45 minutes.

    • Wired on the remote controller circuit board. I did it myself. Only thing is that it’s hard to install the sensor. But it works fine without it.

  • is only difference with this and the non-home kit? just the apple home? all android here?

    • +1

That's correct, you can still use the non-Homekit with Google Home or the Meross App.

  • +2

I take that the Non-HomeKit version is for android folks?

    • +2

That's correct, you can still use it with Google Home or the Meross App.

  • I can't work out from the product page, but I have a wired wall mounted button for my garage door opener.

Will the Meross utilise this input, and make the button redundant?

We would still like to retain the wall mounted button.

    • +1

It's always supplemental, as long as your opener has the opening on the back for direct connection (you can always have 2 wires into the same port, if your remote is also using this). So it shouldn't be an issue.

      • +1

True…just wires in parallel, I imagine.

        Thanks!

        • +2

Yep that's it! They don't carry voltage, it's just to trigger a momentary short on those connections.

        • +2

Yeah, just insert the wires from the Meross with the button wires.

    • Same here, wanting to know this before i purchase this unit.

  • Anyone used these lightstrips and found them ok? Got a few different spots I'd like to put some up.

Ideally need a 20m one (if I can join 2 10m ones extended?), and also some diffusers that look nice.

Should I be looking for certain led spacing etc to make sure I don't get individual light areas on the bench/floor etc?

    • +2

I use mine behind my TV for diffuser lighting and they've been great. These are pretty high quality with their spacing, usually it's the AliExpress SMDs that you would have to worry about. They can also be cut and rejoined if need be, but you'll need to get the 4 pin joiners for that.

      • may i ask how you power them? i considering buying the strip. but not sure how power would work or how best to hid the power leads?

  • Bought the non-homekit version yesterday. Keen to get it installed and into HA.

    • +3

You'll have to do it via the HACS meross integration. For those using with HA, I'd recommend the HomeKit version as it's quicker and more stable in operation as it's local-only and not Cloud API based.

      • +1

I'll see how the non-HK goes, if it's too slow I'll change it.

      • Thanks for the info mate. I'll get the homekit version.

      • +1

Does the homekit version require any apple stuff? I just want to get it into homeassistant locally and avoid cloud entirely.

  • I have the Homekit version and I'm having trouble seeing the garage door opener in my (android) Meross app and my wife's (Apple) Meross app. If I add the garage door to my app, it disappears from her app. Really strange as I thought I'd just be able to create multiple users and add them via the Meross app to control the same garage door

    • Is it always consistent in your meross app? If so it might be a HomeKit issue. If you're using a HomePod mini as your Homebase that can cause it.

  • My current garage door is a B&D which is controlled by a wireless button, as opposed to a wall-mounted wired button. Can't seem to find the model on the Meross page.

Has anybody successfully connected the unit in such cases?

    • Can you post a photo of the rear of the unit? Do you have terminals at the back?

      • Cheers - can see what it looks like here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANRI7fZa0NY

        • +1

I'd say you put the wires for the Meross in the OSC and GND slots on the right in that video at 0:18 mark.

To test, get a piece of wire and strip both ends, and insert it. This will short. if the door opens/closes, then this will work with meross. All the Meross does is temporarily short those pins to open/close the door.

    • I have a B&D but rather than a control unit down in the middle , it has 2 control units - one for the left garage and one for the right. Has anybody connected successfully for this type of setup?

      • You can implement it but the trigger wire will be likely too short to reach the other garage door opener. Might be easier to buy two units and trigger them individually.

  • How to know which ports those wires go into? I have a steel line garage door opener ST50EVOB

    • +1

There's a compatibility function on the Meross website, that tells you firstly if compatible and then provides a wiring diagram .

      • its compatible .. but I didnt see any diagram.. let me recheck

  • Would this work and connect easily with a Merlin roller garage opener?

    • +1

Yes, I've done this. Mine is the PowerAce MT60EVO. Very easy to do.

  • Still one of the goated home upgrades you can do for the price - I feel like adding small IoT upgrades to solid equipment is better than buying cheap crap 'smart' utilities that break after 3 years.

  • +1

Connected easily to my old B&D opener, works great, and only had to reset once after 4 months. Took a minute to figure out the reset button.

    • Hiya which B&D is yours?

I bought one of these a while ago but haven’t figured out how to connect to my B&D MPC3 which came with the house, looks quite old.

      Any tips appreciated :)

      • +1

hi, mine is the controll-a- door- S model… https://garagedoorsandmore.com.au/controll-a-door-s …circa 2011 model…always a pain having to pair FOBs from ebay with this one so this meross was a welcome gadget… with mine, I just had to plug it into the powerpoint and connect the two wires onto the B&D wire terminals..I followed page 3 of this manual https://www.manua.ls/meross/msg100/manual?p=5

        • ah ok mine is older I think, the circuit board and motor are right next to the door.

          https://motepro.com.au/Manuals/BND/Roller/MPC3.pdf

          The search continues; thanks anyhow

          • @andresampras: When I couldn’t find my B&D model in the compatibility list I emailed Meross and they were very quick to respond. I sent them a pic of my terminals and they told me exactly which ones to use.

            • @Gumby08: I did try that a while ago, they asked me questions and asked for user manual / photos which I sent them…..and then nothing.

Maybe I should try again, thanks for the reminder.

  • I've got this unit and it was a real pain to keep working with my Unifi kit.

It would regularly drop out and become non responsive.
I worked with Meross on this directly and they confirmed it is a known issue with some Unifi customers havibg the same issue.
I tried EVERY possible setting to get this going on an exclusive 2.4Ghz network and tweaked all the usual options.
    Still had issues.

The horrible workaround I now have is a crappy wi-fi extender sitting right next to it to provide its own local network and isolates it from a direct connection to Unify.
    Now it is 100% stable.

Meross keep saying they will fix it with a firmware, but I have not seen it.

Home assistant and Alexa work fine, but Apple homekit will no longer work due to the extender in the network.
I have a workaround for that to, a Siri shortcut that calls Alexa functionality on my phone - don't get me started…..

I'm using it pretty much exclusively now via Home Assistant or Alexa. I even repurposed a Hue light switch button by the front door to act as an opener, as I don't use the dim up/down on that bulb.

    • I have a unifi U6-lite and a cheap ebay opener (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/395889208112) haven't had any dropouts. They use a commodity tuya module which I guess has decent engineering behind it.

My ssid is both 2.4ghz and 5ghz, can't remember if I have 5ghz band steering enabled.

      • Yes, others don't have issues. Tuya related iot work well on my ecosystem too. Was considering changing it, but got it to work

      • Oh..I hoped it's nothing related with tuya.
Tried two different tuya modules from aliexpress, and both went offline 8~12 hours after the initial connection…and only worked within local network only afterwards.

  • Still better to get the HomeKit version even if I use Google hub as main point?

    • No, it costs more and adds no value

  • i've got a steel line sd800, would like a hardwired option. any idea if this will work with my unit?

    • +1

I have a SD800 and used this much cheaper ebay unit ($18)

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/395889208112

You just connect the two wires to the 'receiver' terminals on the SD800 per the manual for Steel-line's powermesh controller

      • thanks, i'll give that a try!

      • Did you experience any connection issue? I think I tried a similar model, and it became offline after a few hours..

    • I’ve got this Meross working with my SD800. Works well, I use it with HA and homebridge so not connected to meross cloud. Pops up on my CarPlay when I get close to the house. Has been working fine for 6 ish months.

  • I have this working with a generic Chinese garage door opener and it works fine with the meross app and Google Home integration.

The only thing that pee me off is the weak ass proximity magnets that you must install on your garage door 'tell' the app whether the door is in the open or closed position. In short, the magnets are low grade garbage and don't work. Therefore, the app says my garage door is always opened even though it's closed. I have a rely on a separate camera app to physically see where the door is.

    • I'm using a cheap ebay opener too (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/395889208112)

The magnets are plenty strong enough. I had a mirabella door sensor and had issues with the magnets being weak too so experimented with the ebay opener when installing it and the magnets worked at least 10mm apart. I've got them stuck on the rail the chain runs in, and then the other bit on the manual release. So they're pretty close to each other. Works perfectly

  • I'm bloody hopeless with DIY, is this still relatively painless to install even knowing that? I have left the garage door open far too many times to count to not want this.

Also, this won't interfere with the function of existing remotes, correct? My parents wouldn't know how to use an app.

    • +2

it's literally so easy, provided your garage door motor is compatible - check that and if it's listed, it should have a wiring diagram. Usually you would just need to partly unscrew 2 x screws, slide the wires in and tighten it again, and plug it in. Other than that it's just installing an app on your phone. Basically as difficult as changing a toilet roll =D You got this! You won't regret it.

And no, it will do nothing to upset existing remotes. Provided you don't pull out any random wires or fiddle around with stuff you're not supposed to !

  • So if i don't have any Homekit stuff at home, the non-HK version is the one i get right?

    • +1

      Yes, plus it's cheaper.

      • +1

Homekit is Apple? I'm on full android at home.

        • +1

          Get the non-homekit version.

  • My doors will need a compatibility kit.
Does anyone that have the additional kit know what it does for the door to work?
    TIA

  • +3

I've got this, it's been absolutely brilliant. Best thing is going out walking etc and not having to ever think of bringing a key. Just pop your smartphone out and open the garage. I have been let down by it before though i.e. it's not 100% bulletproof reliable, so I have a spare key just in case. As occasionally I've opened the app and the device is gone!

I have got the homekit version paired to a really old ipad that sometimes is turned off. But I only use the device via the meross app. About to switch to HA app instead.

    • Agree.

I've had the odd time it doesn't work (loses wifi), and I've had no key. What I did was go to the meter box and turn off the main switch temporarily. Turns back on, which reboots the modem/router/meross/wifi and then it connects again! Only happened once or twice.

I've had a few times where this has saved me because I've locked myself out, but I have a spare key hidden in the garage. So can open the garage remotely.

Another time, a friend was dropping something off when I wasn't home so just opened and closed the door remotely.

      • good tip on resetting the power!

  • Been thinking of one of these. But missus says that people standing on the street might be able to just shout "<keyword> Open the garage door" and have one of our indoor assistants pick it up.

I'm sure there's some safeguards to stop that and/or I could disable it opening on voice-command, but I'll have to go read up on it i guess

    • +1

i had the same thoughts as well. I was looking at a hard wired options instead as our only come with wireless remotes.

    • Yes having a smart speaker close to a window will be an issue.
But even for safety, i wouldnt use a smart speaker to open or close garage door unless i have direct vision and certain that kids etc are clear from the door

    • Via Google home it requires you to say a pin to open the door, no pin for closing. Not even sure if you can turn that off, so no risk of someone yelling from outside getting in

    • At least for Apple Home, these type of accessories can be locked down to not work with voice assistants. Only once you have passed auth and unlocked a device.

    • I have one of these and I cannot open the garage when asking Siri via HomePod. It says I need to continue on Personal Device (so I need to ask siri on iPhone or AppleWatch).
But I can ask Siri to close the garage door through homepod and that works. I dont remember setting this up - just assumed as it is a "garage door" it knows to only open when asked via siri on a personal device.

  • +1

I've had one of these for a few years, used to be fine but not rarely works. I've tried resetting it, moving the magnet etc but it keeps showing the door open despite not being open, or won't open when showing the door is open.

Any ideas on what else I can try to troubleshoot further ?

    • Definitely sounds like a magnet issue. Have you checked it’s inserted into the unit correctly and the magnets are aligned properly when closed?

  • My only complaint from owning one of these is that every so often, the app logs you out for no reason. Which means no notifcations come through.
Edit: just checked, yep logged out again.

    • This is me and my BroadLink app. Annoying as heck

  • Any possible solution to have homekit see if you have arrived home(driving) and automatically opening the garage door?
    But not when walking home.

    • +1

You can see if you’re connected to CarPlay and only then trigger.

      • great idea for new cars. I don't have apple carplay unfortunately.

        • +1

You could also check connection to your cars Bluetooth

  • +1

Cheers OP was looking to smarten up my home.

FYI also have the Wi-Fi plugs on sale

  • Does anyone know if this (or anything similar) supports the ability to leave the door slightly open?

    • I think you would need to adjust the door stop limit on the drive unit itself
