    Clearance deal

    why's it on clearance?

  • I'm also wondering, why is everyone clearing out these.
I have been eyeing the Fury Renegade recently, which is basically KC3000 with a fancy heat spreader.
From my research, those are some of the best in PCIE 4.0 and they even have good power efficiency and low idle power so ideal for laptops.
Now this makes me wonder if these are having longevity issues etc. These have been out for quite a few years and maybe some issues are starting to be discovered?

    • The only reason i can think of that wouldn’t be a red flag, is Kingston is going thru a rebrand or other corp overhaul, and is reimbursing retailers to clear out old stock asap.

Apple does this through their resellers like officeworks, never on their own website.

These have high idle power consumption and tend to run hot. It's fast but not the best choice for laptops.

      • +1

In TechPowerUp's latest SSD power consumption charts, it positions KC3000 with a relatively low idle power draw for both ASPM-enabled (most laptops) and ASPM-disabled (most desktops) systems.

Not sure whose review is more accurate, or if Kingston has updated firmware or swapped chips between these reviews.

  • Might not be clearance at Kingston level but distributor clearing stock as sales probably slow. No point in holding onto stock forever.

  • Is this compatible with ps5..?

Edit:nvm, it is. found the answer after searching for similar post.

PCIe Gen4x4 - that's the only hard requirement by PS5 at the moment. Speed doesn't matter (slower drives will pass the test with a warning, but rarely will impact any game to load).

  • It comes with a "graphene aluminum heat spreader".

Does this mean I don't need a heatsink for it?

    • +1

It doesn't come with a heatsink, most modern motherboards have one though.

      • Thanks. My motherboard does not have a heatsink. Will wait for a NVMe drive comes with a heatsink.

        • +3

You can buy M.2 heatsinks from most PC stores for around $10.

  • Better than the crucial p3 plus? $50 cheaper

  • I'm not familiar with the kingstons re. performance (I have Samsung in my laptop), are these a good drive for a gaming build these days?

    • Yes for a desktop PC

Good for Bosgame 2 mini pc?
        Concerned about heat

        • I dont even know waht that is lol. From when I went into a NVME SSD wormhole about a year ago during all of the sales, I just know that these Kingston models are top tier fast (for Gen 4) but heat up a bit. I ended up getting a mix of Solidgm and SK Hynix (these are same manufacturer).

  • mwave have a 4tb KLEVV CRAS C910 for only $309. anyone have any opinions?

    • Klevv CRAS C910 4 TB (RTS5772DL + SK Hynix V6 512Gb)

DRAMless SSD, Realtek RTS5772DL controller. It's a slightly unusual setup, 8 channels, but doesn't maximise the PCIe gen4 x4 bandwidth. My biased opinion, I would not recommend that SSD at that price. I am not a fan of Realtek SSD controllers though.

      • cool, thanks

With that SSD, warranty service has to go through the retailer, in this case mwave.

I am cynical about the reliability of the SSD, have a read of the following: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1bvgrqw/my_klevv_…

With SSDs, I generally prefer to buy from a local retailer within driving distance (for warranty service). For my past failed SSDs, retailers did either provide a full refund or a full replacement. For Samsung, WD or Seagate SSDs, I suppose you could contact the RMA department directly. However, for Klevv and Kingston, it is through the retailer.

  • Is it worthwhile getting this as an upgrade from my current 960 Pro 512GB? (z390/8700k/1080Ti). I need a bigger SSD to play Phantom Liberty.

  • On Amazon AU Kingston Fury Renegade 4TB is 407.51 Just bought Arrived superfast Runs very hot is def not WD SN850X 4TB or SSung 990 Pro 4TB or even my fave slave/storage drive Team MP34 4tb extra TBW written cf K300 4TB
