Nuts. I need to tunnel myself out of the Apple Kingdom but my friend's will disown me if I do. So much phone for the price.

    • +1

Exactly,i want to pull the trigger on this deal even when i dont need it, especially when im traveling abroad, making my price to be around 200$

    • +28

      Time for new friends too?

    • +5

I mean, it sure would be embarrassing to be a person who had a phone that looks identical to every other phone and with 5 years in the future features compared to their phone.

    • Aren't RCS chats enabled across both platforms now? Or is there other reasons?

      • Be nice if Australian telcos actually implemented RCS in the networks though

        • Which telco doesn't?

I'm on Optus currently RCS-ing to my parents on Telstra.

          • @MasterScythe: No Australian telco supports RCS on iOS yet

          • +3

@MasterScythe: None of the Australian telcos support RCS at network level.
Are you using google's SMS app? That falls back to RCS over data with google's own backend system (jibe) if the telco doesn't support it on the network level. The iphone messaging app only utilises RCS at a network level, so it won't use it in Australia, thus you don't get iphone - android rcs messaging with the apple messaging app.

Since it's self applied code, should probably be fine. Saying this from experience as i claimed a similar deal for g84(20%+10%cb) for $244 back in july. Back then july2024 code was auto applied but i still got my full cashback

    • You're right, it has applied

  • +10

Great phone. Just be aware that the chip is a rebranded Snapdragon 695 from 3-4 years ago

    • +6

It makes super fast high quality phone calls and sms is super fast too.

    • +4

Got one of these a few weeks ago. After coming from a Poco X3 this is a very disappointing phone. It's a low thrills budget phone so the price is about right. Try holding it in your hand before you buy it, it's very uncomfortable .

      • +1

Yeah I'm still quite happy with my F3 purchase for $500 3 years ago, still blows most midrangers out of the water in 2024

        • F3 was incredible value for sure. I still use mine too. Shame they stopped supporting it recently.

      • +1

I'm forced to move from the x3 nfc, with your experience, what would you go?

  • Ordered and tracked correctly. Not a perfect chip but excellent screen and expansion ability for daily use and a back up

  • +5

Fantastic. Pulled the trigger for my son's first phone heading to high school.

I'm aware his social standing may be affected, and figured he might not use it as much as a "cool iPhone". Method in my madness!

    • +5

Big bloated brand names are for suckers.

      • +2

You say that but not having an iPhone really does affect stupid high school status.

        Kids be stupid.

        • +1

You say that but not having an iPhone really does affect stupid high school status.

i'm in highschool and it doesn't matter to people as much as i thought it would

        • Block-quote You say that but not having an iPhone really does affect stupid high school status.

He's cool in other ways, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

          • +1

@mellyd: He rises above, now that's true cool!

        • parents that teach their kids shitty things like this are the issue.

      • Shizuku and Hail are a quick solution to those pesky bloatware apps and other junk. :)

    • +1

      Method in my madness!

      Madness?

      THIS. IS. OZBARGAIN!!

  • St.George is not showing any bonus cashback for Lenovo. Is the bonus CB only for Westpac-issued cards?

  • Will the cashback apply if I purchase two phones in the same transaction ?

  • Does this have curved screen?

    • +4

      Curved edges yup.

  • Westpac card how?

    • Need pay by Westpac card link with payment method.

  • Comparing to G84 from recent deals -

    +ESim
    +Slightly bigger screen
    -3.5mm headphone jack missing

Seems to be about the only changes

    • Ram?

      • The g85 actually has less RAM than the g84, 8gb vs 12gb.

        • 8 GB RAM, expandable up to 16 GB with RAM Boost

    • +11

Greatful it has a curved screen and no headphone jack. It means I'll be saving my money instead of buying this downgrade.

    • +1

      85 has a curved screen.
Which other Ozb commenters have noted is bad for mis presses, bad for finding cases, and bad for breaking screens when dropped.

      • Cheers, missed that deal-breaker when looking at GSMArena.

    • +2

No FM radio. One physical sim plus one Esim.

  • thanks OP,, purchased,, Cash Back tracked.. so I assume it would be $263.20 for me.

    • +1

Will 10% off first order work with shop back?

      • I am not sure whether you can stack them up,, but looks like you will get 20% for sure..

      • May invalidate cashback ?

    • If you used westpac and had sb plus, should be 233.6 effective price (considering my prev purchase of 349 on 30% cb yielded me effective price of 245) . Can someone confirm the final amount who bought using this method

  • +10

I have had a G84 for about a year and it has been the most garbage junk 'phone' if you can even call it that, which I've ever owned. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I'd never buy the brand again as long as I live. You could pay me $350 and I wouldn't take any of their phones. The only good thing is the battery life.

Doesn't receive notifications half the time, SMS's sometimes take 3 days to be received or sent (almost cost me a relationship as she thought I was ghosting her), and many apps need to be repeatedly reinstalled to continue functioning.

Just get the equivalent Samsung and you won't regret it. And yes, even if the Samsung costs 2x what this pile of garbage does.

    • thankyou!!!!

    • +3

I also have the G84 but SMS/WhatsApp has been reliable since the update to Android 14. Make sure you are running the latest OS before giving up.

    • +1

      Sorry this is G85,

    • +3

Had the G84 for over a year without any of the issues you have listed.

    • -2

Thank you, was tempted, but 5-6 year old processor and mediocre camera and your comment… Will stick with my old flagship (S10)

    • +1

I can confirm that the G85 is also very slow with email notifications. SMS seem ok.

    • +3

Had Oppo a few years ago that did that and I found out it was due to aggressive RAM management which shuts down apps and services to give that extended battery life!!
It was a pain as I was in Uni and got hated on as I wasn’t responding to team members for a major assignment. Resorted to Samsungs and iPhone since then as I need to have the basic functionality first.

    • -1

Yeah, I’m not sure why people rave on about Moto G Series phones. They’ve probably never owned flagship models. I had one for a very short period and thought it was junk. The one phone which I was impressed with is the ThinkPhone. I was very happy with that.

    • I've had the G84 for a few months now and I feel it's as good as a flagship for anything other than gaming! Camera is nothing fancy, you can feel the lag from the slower chip when opening apps and powering through settings, but life goes on. The weak Bluetooth volume is another gripe but it's fixed using booster apps, less than ideal but all round it's a great phone!

I think you are having problems on your end or got a dud.

  • +1

I have this phone and been using it since August. It's a fantastic value phone for the price. Lightweight, battery lasts well over a day, camera takes good photos, esim, etc. Really can't complain for the price.

    • how many esim can you use

      • one Esim.

    • No lag between taking photo in sequence ?

  • Does anyone know if the g85 take better photos than the G84?

  • +2

Good value, but only two years of Android version upgrades and four years of Android security updates

  • +1

hmm no IP68 but MicroSD slot…. choices

    vs

    https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_edge_50_fusion-12871.php

    • How much does an edge fusion go for?

  • +1

Its cheaper because of cashback right ?

    • Yes

  • Is there any good custom roms to consider?

Coming from xiaomi notes playing around with the setting they are quite annoying for me on the moto

    And the one notification tone

    • As long as it's snapdragon there's hope. Don't accidentally get a phone with a mediatek chip

  • Should we expect G86 coming next year?

  • Can anyone confirm if this phone won't be 3g blocked?

    • +1

Yes I can confirm. I just bought this last week because I was booted from my Poco F2 Pro.

      • How do you know your Poco isn't supported? I have a xiaomi redmi note 10 so wondering if mine is in a similar boat to your poco?

        • Because my Sim card stopped working completely.

      • +2

Phone manufacturers and retailers would be loving this 3g/4g/5g circus

    Dimensions 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.6 mm (6.37 x 2.88 x 0.30 in)

    Weight 171 g or 173 g (6.03 oz)

  • -4

    A35 for $99 much better

  • So close to pulling the trigger, if this didn't have the curved screen (asking for scratches and cracks) and missing headphone jack (Moto please not you too), I would've gone straight in. As it stands, those two issues plus the chipset basically being a slightly better Snapdragon 695 (circa 2022), means that this isn't that phone you can just buy and forget about buying a new one in 4 or 5 years.

    Chipset comparison: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-6s…

    • +1

Yea the curved screen and absence of a 3.5mm jack is a deal breaker

    • Keep an eye on price drops on the HMD (nokia) Skyline.

Sounds like you and I have similar boxes to tick.

  • i bought the phone just now using shopback app. I hope it will be shown in tracked list at some point. Any idea, how long should we wait to see it in tracked list?

  • Lenovo is selling Motorola?

  • Any recommendation on app to kill those bloated apps in the background? Thanks!
