your mate, kid, wife, mistress or dog.
Good call. Cats prefer a Powkitty.
EDIT: TIL it's actually Powkiddy. I'm had it wrong for years. The shame.
Easy mistake to make when they have cute kitties in their promotional images.
For those who're interested, Miyoo mini plus(with onion OS) is a nice alternaitve
The XX line with muOS is where it's at now days.
Yep Miyoo mini plus $33 USD about $50 AUD delivered

Isn't the R36S more powerful?
R36S is slightly more powerful and has joysticks
Personally I still prefer Miyoo Mini with OnionOS, as I don't play games which requires joystick on the small device.
same here( i play mostly GBA, GBC and SNES games, also miyoo feels more solid (like solid one piece) and it feels like doesn't break that easily (software and hardware wise)
not sure if others have the same idea.
Get a horizontal one.
Hurts too much after 30 mkn
Could get it for $26 last week:
R36S Retro Handheld Console 64GB White US$17.37 (~A$26.14) Delivered
yes thats new user only. this deal is for everyone
Its really not hard to be a new user…
What's the best handheld emulator at the moment?
Depends on your budget.
Anything under $150 I suppose?
Probably one of the Anbernic XX Series Console or the Retroid Pocket 2S.
What are you after? For PS1 and under (and a boatload of Dreamcast and PSP, but not the complete library), one of these on sale would be my recommendation.
PS2 and up is a whole other kettle of fish with a lot more options.
GBA and under, you can buy a GB300 or Datafrog for $10 or less. Depends what you need, man.
What would you recommend for PS2, i was looking at playing NFS Hot Pursuit 2 and if possible PSP NFS Most Wanted.
PSP MW works on the R36S, not full speed, but with frame skip it was playable for the 5 mins of testing I did for a buddy.
PS2 it depends what your budget is. The RG556 has been great for me, and played everything I've thrown at it bar a couple oddities like Superman Returns. You can get that for around 230/240 odd on special pretty often. The RGCube is more or less the same specs from memory (I could be wrong, it's late and I'm tired), but a 1:1 square screen, it's usually 10 to 20 cheaper, but ergonomics, I'd go the 556, very comfortable machine.
If you've got the money, the Steam Deck is the way. PS2 is flawless and can upscale out the arse. Also does PS3 pretty well in my limited testing, Wii, Wii U, Switch is perfect in the dozen or so games I played, it's also a PC so if you have a tonne of Steam games, that's pretty sweet. Obviously it's pretty expensive comparitively, though it's cheaper than an ROG or anything like that.
In short,
Cheap end of PS2 emulation is still 200 and up, but if you've got the money, the Steam Deck will play (profanity) anything and everything flawlessly on top of also being a proper good Steam machine. The 556 is a lot lighter, and has a pretty killer battery, though.
@TheDukeOfNukem: Thanks for the reply, is there a device under $100 that can do most wanted at full frames?
If I can get something under that price i'd be happy to stop there but I feel like if i was going to spend 150 I might as well stretch to the 300 mark to get ps2 and play NFS Hot Pursuit 2 not sure if there is a better device for less that would be able to play it.
EDIT: Have you heard of the Trimui Smart Pro, seems to get recommended for PSP.
@ClintonL: Full frames is hard. PSP has a remarkably good emulation scene but you still need X amount of power to pull it off. I used to be pretty into all this stuff, I used to get sent units to review and shit so I had like tonnes of these bastards, but now I just buy the odd one for fun here and there and don't follow the scene, too many new releases to keep up with if you're not getting paid lol.
I think if you want full FPS PSP for under a hundred, the best bet might be to buy a PSP unfortunately.
The R36S does a shitload of PSP games really well, but that means nothing if you're mostly after NFS. If you want I can download all the PSP NFS games and throw them on my R36S and (profanity) around for 5/10 in each of them when the baby naps later, see how it goes. But yeah if you want 1:1 proper good full speed no hacks NFS, there's nothing under 100 :/ … in your boat, I'd say either pony up for an RG556 type device, or wait another year or two and see if they come any lower in price. I don't know when they will get cheaper, but in the same way the PS1 and older emulators exploded and got dirt cheap, PS2 era emulation is getting better and better, and cheaper and cheaper.
PS: From what I know about the Trimui, it's not worth buying for PSP, but it does an okay job at a lot of PSP games, not unlike the R36S. You can always do a YouTube search of whichever console and with the game you want specifically, NFS being as popular as it is, there'll surely be some videos of people testing them out. Of course what settings they use and whatnot will play a big part in performance unfortunately, but yeah, worth a squizz.
@TheDukeOfNukem: Thanks for the lengthened reply mate, yeah I did some research on youtube looking for a console + game but then half the people in the comments were saying I run the same settings and my game isn't as smooth so I"m not sure if it's people cherry picking the races and underclocking whatnot to pretend it's a seamless experience when in reality most people aren't getting that.
Would you say up to $300 there is a console that can do PSP + PS2 seamlessly at full frames, eg Hot Pursuit 2 at full frames? All good if you don't know personally about the new devices.
@ClintonL: Yeah, it's all a bit hit and miss unfortunately. So many different versions and then updated versions and then tweaks and so on with every emulator, it doesn't make it easy to keep up, best videos are the ones where the uploader has the foresight to also include their custom settings. For me, I hate faffing around with settings needlessly, Steam Deck everything is just on default, it runs it all great. RG556 is more or less default too which is good.
I don't know. The thing is, I'm not an expert, my opinion is definitely not gospel…but I think if you can get an RG556 for around the 230 mark, you should be fine. Should. The OLED screen is fantastic, the ergonomics are super comfortable, and the default performance with the stock emulators is more than enough for my standards. With that in mind, doing the odd settings tweak here and there only stands to net you better performance. PSP on the 556 is flawless, you can do full 10x upscaling and still be full speed, so for Most Wanted, Underground, Shift, Nitro, and whichever other PSP NFS there is (maybe Own the City? It's been a while) will all run fantastic and upscaled out the arse. PS2/GameCube NFS on that should be more or less flawless, I haven't personally tested them, but based on the dozens of PS2 era games I have played, and the comments I've read online, you should be fine. Definitely wait on a sale though.
The RG556 also does 3DS and Wii reasonably well, though definitely more hit and miss than PS2 era stuff. So the ports of newer Need for Speed games on those consoles will be accessible too, Nitro, Shift, etc. Switch emulation is supported on it, and you may be surprised, but I doubt you'll get playable performance out of Hot Pursuit and the other NFS remasters on Switch.
But long story short, the RG556 should be a decent little NFS machine. Can dig deeper and play the OG PS1 releases too naturally. But for that price, yeah, you ain't gonna find anything better yet), and the OLED is fantastic, I'm not an OLED snob, but it definitely is a nicer screen than all the similar consoles I have.
Rg40h for about 80 after dsicoutns
Just got this today after ordering last week and it has been a blast… Just played it how it came so far and zero issues but I'll get around to following a guide to make it stable when I run into issues
Same, got mine this morning and tested it a bit, I'm amazed at how good the screen is, but the struggled a bit to find out how to get out of a game and back to the main menus, and do other things. I guess I'll have to do a lot of reading and testing over these next few weeks
Select and start together and do that twice.
Push down both sticks at the same time for other menus in game
Thanks!
Very cheap
ordered another one for $27 last week
Showing up as $46.99 for me. Does it have to be a new user?
Terrible Game Boy ergonomics.
