Not a bad pricing and cheaper than the JB Hifi Deal. You need to have an eBay Plus I think.

  • Arghhhh any deals for the Legion Go Z1 Extreme, I would love the extra screen size. Are they both as fast?

    • Pretty much. Ally has issues with the microSD card reader.

If you want the size, go for it. It is very cumbersome so you probably won't get long sessions in.

    • The LeGo just has the advantage of the larger screen, detachable controllers and the odd mouse mode (sic) as well as some other tweaks.

it can't support a 2280 M.2 (cheaper SSD) without an adapter (and some tape for insulation), but that's only if you want to add 2tb or 4tb storage.

If you can, wait for the 2 or 3 new models this year where they're adding a SteamOS variant (which you can already DIY with bazzite), a smaller screen, and the Z2 chipset using the 890m APU that's in the HX370 laptops. It's arguably only 20% performance boost over the current Z1, but that's at the same battery life / wattage.

The new models should push Lenovo to drop the Z1 back to $800.
You may be waiting a few months for Ally X discounts/LeGo discounts.

It's arguably only 20% performance boost over the current Z1, but that's at the same battery life / wattage.

That's not 100% clear unless I'm mistaken. In Aus, we only have the Z1 Extreme and that's faster than both the non-extreme versions of the Z1 and Z2 chips.

        • Generally, it should be equivalent unless there's a clock difference on the Z2E, or the available amount of GDDR7 makes a big difference.

          i.e. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ryzen-Z2-Extreme-vs-Ryzen-AI-7…

This is based on some assumptions of Strix Point APUs used in the October 2024 laptops which has a similar spec sheet to the Z2 Extreme.

The cheaper , slower Z2, i'm not sure. Seems like a price anchor or a refurb label - why put old hardware on a new chip, unless your company name is NVIDIA. I've heard rumors they will use the 880m instead of the 890m, or it will go back to an even older APU, etc. But they’ll face an uphill battle with pricing.

If the 8845HS and the Z1 Extreme benchmark similarly with similar CPU and APU, i.e.

          https://technical.city/en/cpu/Ryzen-Z1-Extreme-vs-Ryzen-7-88…
          https://www.notebookcheck.net/R7-8845HS-vs-Z1-Extreme_16399_…

then the HX370 should benchmark given a similar spec to the Z2E

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/Tentative-AMD-Ryzen-Z2-Extreme…

Keep in mind, the specs for the Z2 have 3 variations -
          Strix Point-based Ryzen Z2 Extreme,
          Hawk Point-based Ryzen Z2 and
          Rembrandt-based Ryzen Z2G.

Lenovo is making 3 variants of the Legion Go, which will have different specs (sic).
I believe the Go S is out, but it's ridiculously priced and weaker than the Ally or LeGo. didn't bother checking the reviews.

I can't say what's coming to Australia that will use the Z2/Z2E, they're AFAIK, just not out yet.
(It could be a new Z2-based MSI Claw … )

I currently have both, Legion Go and Rog Ally.

LeGo is currently with Win11 where Rog is SteamOS (Bazzite). In both their Windows forms, I'd say the ROG performs better plus in my experience Armor Crate is better than Legion Space. Although Lego has the bigger screen, the VRR of the ROG is noticeable and games appear to run smoother.

Extra screen space of the LeGo is welcomed for some games/uses.
