PNY CS2340 2TB NVMe SSD - $149.99 + Delivery + Surcharge @ SaveOnIT

160

Part of SaveOnIT's black friday sale. I can find basically no details or reviews of this drive, even PNY don't list the controller or memory type, so I suspect it's lottery in terms of what you get. However it's superdooper fast! 7400/6400MBps

Shipping is $16.50 for me, which is an ouch. But still cheaper/faster than the P3 Plus deal.

Surcharges: 1% card payment, 2.6% PayPal payment.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

  • A panty dropper at that price!

yeah i got teh 4tb one of these I think I paid liked 290 bucks for it.

  • Does this have a dram cache ? I can't find any details online

  • Tempting but you can get a Kingston NV2 or Crucial P3 Plus from a lot of places for around $5 more, for peace of mind.

this is miles ahead of the nv2 or P3 plus, those two might as well be e-waste with their hardware configurations.

QLC + HMB = speeds drop to literally zero and stuttering after the first ~100gb (SLC cache runs out) on anything lower than kc2000 for kingston and p5 for Crucial respectively.

I would look at a SN570 or SN580 if you want reasonable speeds from a larger brand at this budget.

PNY I would put as better than Kingston but not Crucial, as Kingston uses the same hardware as PNY but worse firmware (Both use rebadged Phison Controllers, look at kc3000 flash cell degradation drama), and Crucial uses in-house stuff.

the CS2140 already runs like 10x faster than the P3 plus or NV2, the CS2340 is just that with a gen4 bus.

      • the nv2 uses a random controller so who knows what you will get

but you can be sure you will get only 3.5 reads and 2.8 writes which is super pathetic

        save $5!

        the p3 is 5.0 - 4.2 w

above PNY is a LOT faster

nv2 is 3500/2800 burst, but drops to ~50 once cache exausts.

P3 plus is 5000/4200 burst but drops to ~100, both are horrificly bad.

something like a sn570 is technically 3500/2300, but will only drop to ~600 in seq, which is more than fine because of the decent TLC + HMB config.

(it's literally 6x faster than the P3 plus despite being "3500" instead of "5000").

The speed on the box might as well just a marketing number.

For reference a modern CMR 7200rpm HDD will only drop to 260-270, which is somehow multiple times faster than both the nv2 and P3 plus.

  • Seems like a good candidate for PS5? Anyone know if this will fit in a heatsink?

  • Hmmm might be time to replace my old Ramsta drive
