For gaming (No-RT, No-Upscaling) this beats both the 9070 XT and 5070 Ti.

For running local LLM these are the best value for money.

With 24GB VRAM you can run 32B Local LLM model.

Why run your own Local LLM? Privacy. Works offline. Uncensored models.

StableDiffusion 3.5 for generating images also works thanks to 24GB.

Much better value than RTX 5090.The next LLM model up is 70B and that requires > 42GB VRAM. Effectively 7900 XTX, RTX 5090/4090/3090 all fall into the same LLM category: 32B LLM.

    Banger of a price!

    This or 5080?

    • +3

7900 XTX due to 24GB VRAM allowing you to run 32B Local LLM.

If gaming the 5080 performs around 15% faster and has better OC headroom, for RT it's a massacre, unless you need the 24GB vram, a 5070ti will be cheaper for around the same performance in raster and way better RT and much better power efficiency (source https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-g…), honestly the 9070xt is probably a better buy than 7900xtx as well because FSR4 is pretty neat

      • 9070xt if you can get it for around $1100, but a 7900xtx if you can get it for $1300 or less

    • +2

If you NEED 24GB of ACTUAL VRAM, and you’re comfortable in working with ROCm, this is a good buy.
Otherwise I’d suggest the RTX 3090/4090 used for the same VRAM, a 5070Ti/5080 if you don’t really need the VRAM, an RX 9070/XT if you’re comfortable in ROCm and don’t need the VRAM, or a Mac with 32GB unified memory if you want some kind of VRAM-like memory on the cheap.

  • $1549

    • Being that that OzBargain "…is an independent community…", care to add some context to your dollar figure, for the sake of the community? ^_^

      • +6

It should be $1549 because it was that price for the last whole year. Definitely not a deal after raising $150

  • sheesh I didn't expect this AI shit, should have gotten a 24GB 7900 XTX instead of my 20GB 7900 XT, would be great for resale now

    • -1

lol nobody is going to buy AMD cards for AI shit. Your resale isn't affected. This is just retailers flogging off price jacked last-gen cards to the ozbargain AMD cult. This is ~$350 above typical prices for the whole of last year.

      • +1

nah apparently the 24GB cards can be used for AI models and are selling well, since alternative is 4090 or 5090 that cost… everything

        • A 24GB 3090 isn't a bad price.

That said, I'm looking at buying a pair of 16GB 4060 TIs and running parallel. Far better on the budget than a single 5090.

          • -1

@freefall101: Parallelism architecture still very bad. Performance on multi gpu setup very slow. PCIE becomes bottleneck.

        • I know, I'm one of those who does AI shit. AMD is good for LLMs but LLM APIs are cheap and relatively uncensored. Image/video gen APIs are expensive and censored to hell and back. You might as well bust out a pen and paper instead of waiting on AMD gpu to render images/videos. I'd rather have a 16GB Nvidia card and pay for closed-source LLMs than a 32GB AMD card.

Modded 22gb 2080tis are ~AUD$600 on taobao. People doing AI shit know this.

          • @xrailgun: Why are people running their own instances of LLM's? is it just hobbyists?

            • +1

@Cor-blimey: Usually it's for working on very proprietary code that they absolutely cannot risk leaking to other servers.

  • Just when I thought things would be clearer when making the switch from Nvidia, AMD had to come out with something to make it harder to choose. So last gen 7900XTX is the better card compared to current gen 9070XT? But the 9070XT has advantages over the 7900XTX?

  • It is not a deal. Amazon had the $1500+ price for a very long time last year. 9070xt is much better than 7900xtx except less vram. If costs less than 1k, I would say it is a good deal.

    1700 bucks is overpriced sorry

  • my 6900xt is shaking in its bracket…

  • this is normal price for a 7900XTX sapphire nitro. Source: the last 2 years of checking prices from pccg, mwave, ple, scorptec etc
