Apple MacBook Air 13" M3 (2024) 8-C CPU 10-C GPU 16GB RAM 512GB SSD $1871.10 @ Apple on Campus (e.g. Australian Education Union)

770

Apple has now made the 16GB model the minimum standard! So much for the "8GB RAM is better than 16GB" memes. It’s now cheaper to buy the 16GB and 512GB option from the education store than this previous popular deal. Essentially a free upgrade compared to launch prices - very rare for Apple. I'd be quite upset if I bought the 8GB RAM model in the past.

Prices for other models on Apple on Campus below. This is the Apple Education store for AOC AU Australian Education Union. Price is cheaper than your regular Apple EPP.

Model RAM Storage Price
13" M3 (8-Core CPU, 8-Core GPU) 16GB 256GB $1582.90

  • Are the 256 storage still half the speed of 512?

This is fixed in M3 air

    Free 70w charger option….

Wait for mid Nov apple sale or early 2025 for m4 MBA for the same price.

      HODL you mean?

      • Trying to resist

    • Is there usually a pre-Black Friday Apple sale in mid-November? I’m going overseas for work on the 17th so tempted to do the GST refund thing if there’s a sale before I go.

        14/11

It would be bonus gift card promo.
Works out similar price as AOC but you get additional cashback (usually capped at $100)

  • what does AOC mean? I also saw the url contains 5000447, is that AOC?

24GB config is cheaper than the 16GB config!
But 14” MBP with M4 base model is still a better option
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874237

    • What do you mean?

      • I think what he meant is 24GB/256GB option.

      • +1

        I believe they're saying the MacBook Air M3 24GB 512GB ($2,159.30) is cheaper than the MacBook Pro M4 16GB 512GB ($2,255.00).

In this case yes, 24GB is cheaper than 16GB but at the 'cost' of having an M3 chip instead of M4. Which is why they still said the MBP is still the better option.

        • Configuring 24GB + 256GB from the base model seems like a no-brainer. You also get a free upgrade on CPU..$1870.10

        • Sorry if I missed it, but where is the M4 model? I can only see M3 in the link

Nice. Put one of these in my cart Monday waiting for the Coles gift voucher deal, but the woman at Coles stopped me buying more than $1000 worth of vouchers (limit 5) so I didn't checkout yet. Thankyou WAC (Woman at Coles).

    • You would have been within apple return period though

  • This is a great price, currently on the market for a new MBA. Don’t know whether I pull the trigger or hold on for November deals?

    • This deal isn’t going ahead IM it’s standard pricing now

The M2 Macbook Air (13") has also been given the "16GB minimum" treatment https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop/buy-mac/macbook-ai… Not a bad option @ $1,391.50 if you don't need the M3 chip.

    • only 256GB SSD though

      • 256GB is still the base storage tier for the Air so close to a $200 saving over the M3 equivalent.

        • +2

          I think most people wouldn't notice m2 v m3

    • Is there a big difference between the two? Which one would you say has the better value

      • The M3 might get software updates for a year longer (probably) but for general use (MS Office, browsing, etc.), either would be fine, especially now they have 16GB RAM.

      • If you need one now (can't wait for M4 Macbook Air next year), then generally, it is better to get the cheaper one. However, M3 has AV1 hardware accelerated decoding and encoding so if that's important to you, then go M3.

      • A key selling point for me is that the M2 can't do two external monitors, but the M3 can (in clamshell mode).

Again those who paid same $ and just bought the M2 8gb version will be so damn pissed off …

      • Unfortunately with computers and electronics prices will always come down or is updated/improved for the same price.

    • Thanks. I'm going to grab the M2 with 512gb, given that also upgrades the CPU (and charger). I really don't need it, my 2016 Pro runs perfectly fine. But this is a good deal with the 10% off from Coles and salary sacrifice savings. I may as well upgrade now for the next 7+ years.

Finally Apple has killed the 8GB base spec. That is great !!!
After so many years, it has finally happened.

    • +9

If it hadn't for AI (Apple Intelligence) I bet they still stuck to 8gb as base.

      • ihphone 16 and 16 pro still only getem 8GB RAM

        • But running a much more restricted and lighter OS.

Anyone can confirm if officeworks price beat AOC price? I checked their policy looks like edu pricing is excluded

Commercial quantities and pricing (i.e. a reduced price not available to the public and including Apple Reseller Education pricing.)

    • I took my daughter's uni card into Apple today when I picked mine up. Nobody asked to look at it.

      • +1

Probably a good thing if you ordered through AOC as it's for Union members, not students. I ordered yesterday for the first time through AOC. Had an engaging conversation with a staff member around education but was never asked for anything specifically - I provided my licence with my QR code as I walked in. Not sure what happens if you do get asked though.

        • Ah is AOC for Union members! So is this education staff that's part of the edu union or like an Apple union?

  • Does AOC price work with back to uni promos? If so then probably better wait til January.

    • +1

      It does not

      • But the slightly higher education price does.

  • Thanks for the link. It's about $50 cheaper than the standard public education store price - https://www.apple.com/au-edu/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air/13-inc…

  • can buy this using a normal apple account with preload giftcards?

with black friday sales, is education pricing usually included when getting cashback / gift card?

is this a better deal than black friday or back to uni promotion?

    thank you!

    • Did a trial run and looks like you can use gift cards/pre loaded amounts in your account.

Re Black Friday deals at the end of the month, was thinking that too. Black Friday last year was ~$280 gift card back (depending on model), cheaper than both the education prices (which are excluded from BF) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812358

  • Scored MacBook Air M2 16GB 256GB for ~$1.3K (used 5% off Apple Gift Cards via HCF) - bargain!

    • Currently 20x flybuys at coles at the moment

    • -4

hey there! what is HCF? 😊

      • Health fund

  • is this aoc deal now the cheapest it could be?

or is it better to wait till black friday for the education store sale (unsure if this will happen)

or is it better to wait till back to uni sale?
