Wow, less than 10% and paid in own gift cards :)

With price match and 15% CG you can get a better deals.

    • What is 15% CG ?

I have 15 off cards I've had for a while, I'm fairly sure this would make airpod pro 2 USB C for only $260

    • +3

      1st reaction: "ooooh!"
      2nd reaction: "awwh…"

  • +34

its the lets get rid of the stuff we can't get rid of at RRP sale

    • +16

Only Apple can sell 3-5 year old tech for full price and claim a sale when they give you 10% off

      • +4

Somehow, I don't know why, they set the prices in the industry. And when they introduce a new segment, or raise prices, or make controversial changes…. well, the industry seems eager to follow.

Want a great entry level Ultrabook?
        - MacBook Air, and it's price compared to all other options.

        Want a good 9 inch tablet ?
        - The entry level iPad is compared to the rest.

        Want a flagship phone ?
        - iPhone Pro/Max and their prices.

        Want a high-end wearable?
        - Everything gets compared to the Apple Watch.

Want a healthy meal for lunch?
        - Again, people look at apples.

        • Thank god they lost the USB C battle, the world will be a better place without their proprietary crap

          • @cook99: Not to be an apologist but they were the first major company to use USB-C on a flagship product (MBP) and helped design it using the experience they had gained from the lightning connector. Not arguing Lightning stuck around longer than it should have but it made sense at the time.

            • +2

@bdubba: Whilst what you say is accurate, I feel adding it to the MBP in 2015 then shipping out hundreds of millions of lightning connectors for another 8 years on almost every other product (and still going!) is pretty deplorable behaviour. Everyone got on the bandwagon years ago, Apple could have done more.

How many Lightning cables will be e-waste over the next decade as a result?

Also I believe they were basically forced to do this by European Union?

            • +7

              @bdubba: rant:

Apple created the Lightning Port, back when it was cra ppy USB-A and microUSB ports around. The Lightning Port is actually very innovative, and superior to the USB-C design in a couple key ways. Apple's biggest blunder here is that they set it's standard at 2.0-spec when USB-3.0 spec was easily available, and perfect for the type of device this was going into. Next, they also didn't include additional features like Fast-Charging, HDMI-1.4 out, Sleep Standby, Reverse Charging, Video-in, or Daisy Chaining. As a side note, Apple did eventually make a couple Lightning Port on their devices with a higher USB-spec and did include a couple of the missing features. But this was too little, too late.

As for USB-C it was designed by the USB Consortium as a response to Apple. Apple did NOT have anything to do with it, that is misinformation. What Apple DID do, was they worked together with Intel and created a new USB-spec which is called Thunderbolt. This was their "big wow" in MacBook but it never caught on, because it was a weird port, and no-one had the cables or accessories for them. Then they collaborated on designing Thunderbolt-3 and this time it was a revolutionary upgrade. People didn't want USB-C we actually wanted Thunderbolt-3, and a new market segment was created called eGPU which would have caught on if it wasn't for the exorbitant prices.

While this latter Thunderbolt-3 was great, the base USB-C was anything but that. They too made, arguably a bigger, blunder and set the feature at USB-2.0 level. The adoption of USB-C has been far slower than they preferred and I expected, but I guess that is due to a sea of bad cables, ports, and devices. The USB-A just works, and the new one wasn't the revolution it promised. Now USB-A is still around and USB-C is dominant, but it took almost a decade.

….had USB-C set their spec level at a 3.0 minimum we would've seen most of the dodgey cables and accessories never appear, and have much better devices. Then they needed to roll all those extra features meantioned above as a baseline standard for the USB-4 port, instead they made them optional. Had these few crucial changes been taken by the USB Consortium it would have meant that Apple was far behind the industry, and they would have had to make the change themselves, rather than being forced. And if they were stubborn, it would've been even easier/quicker to have them convert.

….conversely, had USB-C kept up it's dumb shenanigans of having a sea of 2.0 devices, cables, and dodgey accessories AND their dumb optional upgrades within the cable. Well, if Apple had their Lightning Port released with 3.0-spec their device would have been superior overall. And suppose Apple then released the "Lightning 2" port back in 2019 (prepandemoc) and this was now set on the USB-3.3 level with the bonus features or maybe even the baseline Thunderbolt-3 specification. Well, then again Apple would be ahead of the industry. Then there would have been nothing the EU Committee could have done, to get them to convert. Because doing so would've meant a sidegrade at best, but more likely a downgrade. Which doesn't make business sense, nor legal one. Apple could've taken it a step further and include Lightning to Lightning cables with their devices, and include the port on their laptops and desktops too. Maybe even made them attach magnetically. But since Apple stopped/slowed innovating after the departure of Jobs, they took the easy route, got complacent, and tried to eat their cake and keep it too. Good thing the EU Committee forced them to upgrade.

      • Yet here we are at 100+ votes…

      • Apple Watch Series 9 not sure 3-5 year old?

      • I used to be in this bubble. Moved to an S23 ultra this year and wont be going back unless something seriously amazing comes out from cupertino.

You can have all the chip power in the world but the competition has caught up and surpassed. Software is just peddling at this point. And battery? My iPhone 13 PM was awesome but this samsung is next level. I knew it was time to move since my iPhone 12 pro, when i was getting glitches and stuck animations which the iphone 13 continued.

S23 has been faultless and feels 50x better in hand. Anyway, cant preach too hard. My wife hates android so i get the other side.

Waiting for CashRewards to create a deal

  • Classic Apple rubbish deal where they only sell old stock for a tiny discount paid in their own gift cards. There are more exclusions in this deal than all the other retailers combined

    • -1

MPA seems better than AOC pricing, and you get cashback.

      • +1

How is a gift card better than real money?

        • +21

An Apple Gift Card is way better than real money! Real money is probably spent on stuff like bills. How boring! With an Apple Gift Card in hand, your once monotonous life could not be any more palpably exciting

      • +3

Sorry for my ignorance, what is MPA?

      • I don't get the obsession people have with AOC.

        • I know what you mean. But if you can’t change the world, at least you can get a nice discount on some glamorous hardware. Remember, education is a lifelong process… so in a way we’re all students really

        • Hard to beat when you have 15% off GCs

        • What is AOC. Seen it so many times

          • +3

@terroz: Apple On Campus. In this context its an online Apple Store offering educational pricing for members of the Australian Education Union.

    • +1

Surprising how many down votes this comment got, it just shows how truly loyal Apple customers are.

      • I’ve got an iPhone 15, and I agree and think it’s moronic the price people pay for discontinued stock

        • +1

Hey! Not everybody can afford the latest thing. Morons are people too, you know…

  • +1

No mention of Apple Watch Ultra 1 or 2. Are they included? Not really a great deal, just genuinely curious.

  • -4

    No iPhone 15?

    • +8

as described in the very first line of the post description, yep, no iphone 15.

    • +3

      First line of the post

      iPhone 15, Macbook Pro excluded.

    • +2

      They never do latest iPhones.

What was surprising last year was the AirPod pro 2.

    • Unfortunate

  • +1

No mention if this applies to educational pricing.

    • From previous years it is not included in education or aoc stores.

  • +1

I’m surprised no AirPods Pro 2. Last year it had an $80 gift card

    • apologies added.

    • +1

they just refreshed it with type c version , dont think that would be soon

      • -1

AirPods USBC has replaced the Pro Gen 1. This deal will apply to Gen 2

  • +1

pretty ho hum blackfriday deal, do cashrewards/shopback usually get on board with extra cashback for blackfriday?

      • Does Cashback work with edu store and does Apple check your student ID?

        • +1

The cashback needs to say edu store also and it will work. I don’t believe Apple checks student id but if you are afraid they do you can get it delivered instead.

  • Can I buy these products… With my Apple gift card / credit?

    • Yes

      • Ok in that case for me, these would be very significant savings

I don't suppose student store too?!?

        • No, it excludes Education store. It’s in the t&c’s

          • @Buyer0fBargains: Ok can't win them all!

No one here has confirmed price match, also seems unlikely.

            Anyone know?

  • +5

I think it was back in 2016 when Apple had a promo that if I buy an i-Something, I would get a voucher which I can buy anything in-store.

So my wife and I went to buy something and we got a $50 voucher. Being close to December, I asked the sales assistant if I could convert the $50 voucher into Apple gift cards.

"No," she said, "the vouchers can only be used to purchase anything in the Apple shop."

So I went, "I want to buy $50 worth of Apple gift cards using this $50 voucher."

    "That," she said, "will work."

My wife left that shop thoroughly confused that day.

    • +1

That was when the sales assistant realised they were missing a * next to "anything"

  • +4

    Not a deal.

    Will wait :
Back to uni offer (airpods) + edu price + cashback of up to 8%

    • was that with macbook only?

      • +2

Yes you are correct, just macbooks / imacs / ipads.
Guess this deal is good for other products

  • Boooo to no MBP offer.

  • +1

would Apple price match for this sort of deal?

    • +1

      ^ This

    • Seems unlikely? Anyone?

    • +1

No, price match cannot be used in conjunction with this offer

  • iPhone 15, Macbook Pro excluded.

    Nice.

  • +2

$80 off Apple Watch SE is decent.

    • -1

Is it really $80 off though? You get a gift card to use for your next purchase at apple.

      • +2

Fair. We have iCloud & Apple Music subscriptions so it goes straight on that. I think most people with an Apple Watch would be spending on services in the Apple ecosystem

  • damn just bought series 9 with trade-in series 8 impulse purchase difference was $439 but holidays return until January 8 and Apple offers the best return policy They took my series 8 trade in right off my wrist no box no charger and I wanted to keep the Nike strap and that was fine too, Try doing a trade in with no box no charger no straps - no one will take it except Apple, though not sure if you do a trade in they still give you a gift cardc if so may return and re purchase again

    • +29

At least you saved a small fortune on punctuation

  • +1

Seems good value for MBA 13" model.

    • +1

Especially if you can get them to price match elsewhere 10% off and also pay using discount GC’s..

      • Or shopback/cashwards high % rebate during Black Friday period.

  • +1

still - no one can confirm if trade in can also score a gift like everyone else, notwithstanding on Santa's naughty Ozscrooge list
wonder too if you had to wait until Lunar New Year 24 like Officeworks to score gifts or right off the bat? something like to score OW gift to get a pixel you pay up front and wait till netzero in 2030 to get your gift.
you didn't think they'd make it that easy for yer did'ya?

    • Yeah price match and trade in could really take this to 11

  • +2

Can I price match at apple, then get this offer? As it doesn’t mention in the post, can anyone confirm this? Thanks

    • price match with who how what when where why?
      you can try Bing Lee

      • +1

I would like to try any retailer which offers lower price lol. Doesn’t need to be specific, e.g., JB, Bing Lee or OW. But I don’t know if they accept it or not.

        • Physical store will price match up to ten percent.

Even if other retailer is 20% etc.

Still it would help a lot! Make this really really good for me

          • @hamwhisperer: Ikr, if it’s working, I will use my gc (additional 15% off). Stacks everything together lol. That’s really good then.

            • @AdamJ9: Exactly that. This will get me airpod pro 2 with USB C under 240 Aus.

Anyone price match this deal last year?

  • cashback come on in!

  • +1

Hell hath no fury than an apple fanboi who reads negative apple comment on ozbargain!

  • it seems like last year MacBook Pro was included for $400 gift card. Does anyone know if shopback can be used with apple gift card? how do we use shopback when paying with gift card, does shopback only work with apple online store?

  • I thought Apple doesn’t preannouce their Black Friday deals until the actual day. Is this it or could there be more?

    • Always possible, I do know a LOT of the Apple accessories are due a black friday deal at JB that I'm waiting on. :)

  • +1

    WTH!
    iphone 15 excluded :|

  • I would prefer dollars off the price than a gift card.

    • -1

Just put the voucher on classifieds. You’ll probably get 75% of the value in cash.

  • Bummer. No ultra included

  • Looks like the only reasonablish deals are the AirPods Pro 2nd gen and the Apple Watches.

However, I would be waiting to see what other retailers offer before taking this up.

  • +1

I called my Apple store where I bought my series 9 yesterday with a series 8 trade-in - An appointment was set up for 24 Nov to do a 'virtual' return and get the voucher - pretend to return scanning codes left right and centre but not physically taking anything off me nor returning my trade in - just bring the box for bar code scan and receipt as it is within Apple's generous return policy time frame- extended to January 2024 for purchases made now - considered extended holidays return

had it been JB or any of similar small mom-and-pop enterprise - it would be too bad your fault no returns after the box is open (even within 24 hours), let alone wearing on your wrist and up till January 2024

  • Been looking for AirPods 2nd Gen for a while. Currently Apple is selling for $219. After this promo starts, it’ll be $179 with a $40 GC that can be used only in Apple again. The AirPods everyday pricing across retailers is $179. 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • Does anyone know what happens to the gift card if you buy something then return it? Do you get to keep the gift card?

    • +3

Apple will refund you the full amount less the gift card value. So you do get to keep the gift card, you're just getting less refund on the product you returned.

    • The invoice is split between the GC and the item. The item will be shown by the RRP amount less the GC value.

For example Airpods Pro 2, The Airpods will be shown as 399-80 = $319, and the GC as $80.

      • Is it possible to claim TRS if they include the giftcard in the receipt :P If that's the case I would pick AOC instead
