Apple MacBook Air 13" M3 (2024) 10-Core GPU 16GB/512GB $1989 (RRP $2399) + Delivery (C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

1000

Been shopping for a Macbook Air and felt the M3 offered sufficient advantages with the increased disk speed and ability to have two monitors, as well as being a 2024 vs 2020 for bargain M1. But wanted the 16Gb model and cheapest to date was $2099, with refurbs from Apple still $2k+.

Officeworks just dropped thie prices from $2397 to $1997 (likely due to M4 announcements soon) but for the next three days you can combine with the $20 onepass deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/864928) and extra officeworks apple flybuys deals (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866775) for another equivalent of 7.5% in points back. I also paid in 4 with Afterpay.

-24 Sept price dropped slightly from $1997 to $1989

    this or wait for M4?

    • -6

this… actually the m13 looks promising so maybe wait for that

    • +2

Thinking of the same thing, however Macbook Airs rumoured to be released early next year. Only Macbook Pros, Mini will be announced soon

    • +15

There’s always another model coming. The M3 is fine for almost any task.

      • +5

How dare you break the economy

    • +4

Honesty I think the best approach with Apple products is always to wait, you’re already outlaying a premium for their products, may as well spend a few hundred more and get the latest greatest and get that extra year of support down the line.

Also I always buy Apple products via the education portal using Apple Giftcards I bought from Woolies when they have 20x reward points 👍

      • +9

True so i have been using my macbook pro 2012 from new till now and I am still waiting !!!

        • +1

lol, I thought his post was satirical until he went on about the education store.

        • Bro, I'm still going hard with my Late 2012 iMac!

        • Wow thats like 12 years of usage. Did you get to replace the battery mid cycle? Currently Apple charges $409 or $419 for battery replacement on a MacBook Pro 13 inch. My dilemma is to replace battery or save that money & buy a Apple refurb unit or brand new one.

If only the battery replacement cost was cheaper like $150 or so I would straight away replace my ageing battery & continue using my MacBook Pro 13 intel cpu.

I only use for basic web browsing & YouTube streaming & MS Office applications, Zoom meetup. So nothing taxing on the system but my MacBook Pro 13 intel is a portable heater my god!!! Fans spin nearly every time I do something so simple.

Glad Apple went with their own design chip.

          • +1

@milanoxpress: Battery is already dud of coz, when it goes down to around 75% the macbook will just cut itself off no warning at all, hence i always just plugin permanently. Too worry buying those aftermarket battery and might end up burn down my house.

The fan also used to be spinning like hell non stop while watching youtubes, then I opened it up and cleaned all the clogged dust and shit out, since then been quiet again.

          • @milanoxpress: Same - 2013 MBP still going strong. Replaced the battery once and it's due for another. Still runs FCPX fine

      • Real bargainers wait for refurbs

    • -1

This. It is unlikely the M4 will be so much better performance that it will make it better value than this deal. Unless Apple puts some active cooling in the M4 or you are intending a sustained heavy workload, this will be more than good enough.

      • Active cooling would just spoil it. Save that for pro.

        • +3

i think for me the biggest selling point of the air is fanless design

          • @Roe Jogan: I meant some sort of solid state active cooling. I agree that the air should stay the same form factor.

This is crazy price ever for sure

    16 GB RAM Alert 🚨🚨🚨

    • +17

      8GB too much!

    • +11

What a waste, could have saved 8GB and added 8GB to the SSD instead.

      • +5

yup. no deal! Wasted 8GB for nothing

    • +4

When I grew up we used to have to use an abacus a slide-rule and a monkey with a typewriter and a gb was something you got if you didn’t bring his bananas on time .

    • +1

Do you mean 8GB is enough (for next few years)?

  • +1
  • +18

    'only 8GB' crowd in shambles.

  • +3

    Only $1997! For a 16gb

  • +1

I think now no one would complain their phone got more ram :D

  • +2

Extra $600 for 8GB and M3 chip which supports 2 monitors and not much else over the M2.

    Pass.

    • +9

      Thanks for letting us know.

    • You forgot the extra 256GB disc space as well as the added one more year of OS updates.

    • +1

M2 only supports 1 external monitor? You can't be serious?

      • +4

M1/M2/M3 all support 1 external monitor, with the change on the m3 that it can do two if the internal screen is closed then it can output to two.

        • Wtf how is this not controversial as much as the 8gb issue

          Unbelievable honestly

  • +1

Is the 8gb ram 256gb $1449 a good price? Dont need space as ive got cloud

    • +4

256GB is fine just the 8GB RAM will let you down

      • +1

This has always been my position, but I recently acquired an old iMac with only 8GB and I've been pleasantly surprised by its performance.

I'm not exactly stretching it, but I'm very bad at managing browser tabs and I really haven't run into problems yet. And this is an iMac with the non-integrated memory, so the M-series Macs would be even better.

Just thought I'd mention it because I never expected an 8GB machine to be as usable as this has been. I still wouldn't get a laptop with 8GB as my daily driver but I think I now have to concede that it's probably fine for more use cases than I'd imagined.

        • What browser do you use?

Browsers have different tab management which can affect the amount of ram it uses.

    • +1

My only concern with 8gb is Apple Intelligence. Once it goes live, 8gb is the current minimum to run it. Having 16gb would ensure a longer life IMO

  • +6

That is a really nice price. And I just broke my M1 MBA. Now I just need to magically acquire $2000.

  • +2

Damn this is a great price! I don’t need to upgrade my M2 but fomo lol.

Officeworks is doing 15x Flybuys points on Apple products now. So, it's additional 7.5% off.

    • what does that mean, im a noob when it comes to flybys i dont even know wtf that is. if i took a wild guess its some sort of point system for woolies?

    • $1997 x 15 points = 29,955 flybuys points = $149.77 potential savings??

15 points per $1 spent. *Only for OnePass members

      What is OnePass anyway?

      • I wonder if we can sign up for a free trial instead of paying $20

      • Also applicable to Flybuys til this Sunday.

  • +4

subscribe to apple refurbished notifications and wait for MBP 14 imo. 16/512 M1 Pro were $2299 around Xmas

mbp14 is so much more of a machine. better speakers, stunning miniled display, active cooling, ports, better keyboard etc.

    • Hopefully in a couple of weeks they bump the base model pro to M4 with 16gb, if they stay around $2400 will be good

      • unlikely they will do something that'll hurt previous series sales

    • I managed to score that deal with the M1 Pro last year, it does pay to wait but you do need to be quick when you see it! Mine only had 1 cycle on it :)

      • haha yes probably that was the opportunity I missed! so as soon as I saw they were available again in January I was like HOLD MY CALLS GET LOST EVERYONE quickly sat down and ordered one. first I went for a silver 16/512 for $2299, put the order in, then 30min later checked again and saw 16/1tb for $2539 and thought hot damn I need that instead! but silver 16/1tb was already gone by then, so I was again like LEAVE ME ALONE ordered a grey 16/1tb and cancelled 16/512

was a day I won't forget soon lol

        • yeah lol, you need to secure the deal quick! only regret i had tbh was to not hesitate when the unbinned M1 pro 1TB was avaliable and someone got it not even 30 mins later :( 16'inch models went fast too

          • @Mr Freeman: yeah were good deals on 16 inchers too. sometimes I think maybe I should have got a 16 incher instead, but that's instant 2kg+ weight, and it's no longer a portable device, I wish they had MBP 15 for best of both worlds

14 is superb, I do all my photo editing on it, and it's super capable, I just wish the screen was a little bit bigger sometimes lol

sometimes I think oh how the tables have turned. I have always been a Windows guy, Dell business laptop reseller (Latitude 7490 FTW), and always thought macbooks were just expensive toys

but M chips have been truly a revolution

            • @shabaka: Agreed! M series chips are amazing!

14 seems to be a happy medium with power and travel. 16 would defs get annoying after a while lol

    • After viewing in store I found the display of the air really very good. Have a mini led iPad pro to compare.

      • +1

no one is saying these are bad. they are way above average, all calibrated and everything, but for both content creation and consumption miniled is better with blacker blacks. plus 120hz refresh rate on MBP

  • It's possible that the next M4 Air could be a nice jump in performance, but more importantly their may be either an upgraded screen for either it or a premium version (maybe like the 15inch Air?), where it will be oled. That will look amazing.

    • 2 years till OLED on the Pro, 4-5 years for the air.

  • oh man if this was the 15 inch at this price, done deal, i know wishful thinking

  • +4

I literally bought one from Apple a few days ago (through work) - does anyone have any experience in asking Apple for a refund of the difference?

edit I called Apple and they refunded 10%

  • Can it run windows 11

  • +1

Was able to get this price matched at my local OW with the Costco deal (https://www.costco.com.au/Computers/Laptops/Apple-MacBooks/M…) on currently, further bringing the price down to $1,890 for those who are still sitting on the fence.

    • Do you know if you’re still eligible for the 15x flybuys points promo through OnePass after price matching?

  • +1

Amazon seemed to have match this.

  • How long should it take for the flybuy points to appear in the flybuys account (paid through the onepass account login with flybuys already linked)

    • I got them about the day after, but standard points only. The bonus I think I recall can take up to two weeks if anyone can recall.

      • yeah, i got the standard points but it seems many people aren't getting the bonus 10x flybuys. I have emailed them repeatedly and they promissed it would happen by midnight last night, but it did not. Now they are saying they are chasing the "flybuys" team. Its a bit of a shitshow.

        • I have received the 10x

          • @bogstation: still nothing for me

            • @soupratt: Finally got all the points. They said everyone should get them by 20 Oct as they are being deposited in batches..
