  • When do the new iwatches (including any budget versions) usually come out? Thinking of getting one as a gift and have not bought one before.

We are about halfway through the cycle for the series 10. Series 11 due around September. Ultra 3 also around this time.
SE range overdue for a refresh. Could be anytime but most likely around September as well.

I recently bought a Series 8 Aluminium 42mm GPS + Cellular for $260 delivered from Cash Converters. Excellent condition including 98% battery health.

Cex have quite a few second hand as well. Just make sure you filter what’s in stock, they have listings for almost every model even if they have no stock.

  • These are getting very, very long in the tooth

    • The 10s?

I’ve been confused about what new things they actually do for years.

The only reason I’m looking at all is because European science comparison guy says they’re much better at mixed exercise heart rate than my midband.

Yeah it’s really disappointing the lack of innovation with the watches imo. Couldn’t believe the major ‘upgrade/redesign’ of the s10 was making it 1mm thinner… like nobody wanted that… could’ve just given us a bigger battery.

Still running the s6 and there’s 0 reason to upgrade, stuck though having to look at buying a second watch so I can have one for sleep/exercise and one for the rest of the day since they don’t last the full day :(

I just picked up a series 10 on this deal. Coming from series 6, I think it’s a pretty decent upgrade honestly. The fast charging is the best new feature, so much better - now I can top up 80% of the battery during my shower, where the series 6 would have been at about 30%.

It’s also got a fresh new bigger battery, much bigger and brighter screen, faster at everything, water temperature sensor, car crash detection, music directly through the speaker, voice isolation on the mic that works amazingly and makes phone calls actually decent, new watch faces, and can double tap with fingers to stop your timer/phone calls without touching the screen. Really happy with the upgrade. This is a good deal. Also my series 6 battery was pretty corked at this point

Agree. They're drip-feeding new features year after year. Absolutely no need to upgrade anymore.

Seems like JB hi fi is selling them for $10 more at $579 if you don’t have Costco membership. Officeworks also has them going for $577

    • Don’t forget to get extra $30 off by using the $30 off on $300 purchase

I don't think Apple products are included in that unfortunately :/

Anyone successfully price matched at Apple?

I know Apple max discounts by 10% and with the current 10% off Apple Gift cards, if this works, that would make the 42mm $649 down to $584 with a further 10% off Apple GC reducing it to ~$526. For the 46mm, with Apple price match 10% discount making the 46mm reduce from $699 to $629 and purchased with 10% of Apple GC, making the 46mm $566. Record low?

    • Where can you get 10% off Apple gift cards?

I price matched Officeworks at Apple Store today, but they only did 10% like you said, bringing 46mm to $629.10. Advantage of doing it as Apple is you can get the rarer combos straight away instead of waiting for delivery. I got the Cloud Blue Nylon combo and walked out with it. You have to do the exact combo Officeworks is offering though, they won’t let you change the band without paying full price.

Thanks Dollar Dreamer, got it for $541 from price match at office works. Had $400 Celebration cards remaining from Cole’s just before Christmas at 10% off. Wife’s birthday present sorted!

Just a side note if you are not in a hurry and want to save extra $80-$90, in the last few years late March has been the time that Apple put its current gen Watch on the refurb site for $489. I would just wait for another couple of weeks, especially if you have already got some Apple gift cards.
The downside is that the so called refurb only has 1 year warranty.

    • Items from the official Apple refurb store have the same 12 month global warranty and the additional ACL coverage as new items. No difference. As long as purchased through https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished

      • That would be great but where exactly to see that info? Your link just says 1 year warranty though.
My best guess is that this legal page doesn't specify refurbs excluded so it should be 2 years like any other products? Seems very promising.

This link gives a good overview of Apple warranty vs ACL. All Apple products come with a 12 month warranty. ACL is additional protections and can vary per product line. Eg: phones / tablets / watches additional 12 months (minimum) of protection while computers add an additional 24 months (minimum)
          https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/au/
The reason I buy from Apple direct is that they are the retailer AND manufacturer. They know ACL and apply it without making you beg for it.
Try exercising your ACL rights at other retailers and it’s a nightmare most of the time.

    • Will the Series 9 also receive additional discounts at the refurbished store?

      • As a tradition, yes.

        • Great! I had thought I needed to wait until the launch of Series 11. I suppose there won’t be another price drop after the new series is released?
