Ferrex 20V Spotlight or Worklight Skin $29.99 @ ALDI Special Buys

120

Unlike other cordless tool runs, Bunnings unfortunately does not seem to be matching the price on the equivalent Ozito/Ryobi product, so in the end pretty decent deal at half the price. Bit the bullet and bought one of each.

Products and prices comparison with Bunnings:

FWIW: I regret not buying the Ozito worklight during a previous deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/698522). This Ferrex one is seems a bit clicky/cheap mechanism that struggles to support the light mounted with a 4Ah battery. But it solves the "issue" I have with the cheapie PowerG lights where I can't angle the light easily … so oh well good enough.
Unlike the PowerG one, this one only has one power button which cycles through high, low, SOS, and flashing. Prefer the PowerG High/Low/Off rocker switch.

Have seen these for $25 at our local Aldi (marked down)… Tempting, but I already have the Ozito.

The equivalent ozito product saps power when turned off, meaning the light will be dead in a couple of days of non use. It was totally useless for lighting my unpowered shed at night because it was forever flat and I didn't want to bumble about inserting and removing the battery every time I went in and out.

My experience is based on my purchase some years ago but honestly doubt they've changed it. I tried an RMA and everything, it wasn't defective, it was bad engineering

Personally, I've never had this issue with any of my Ozito Light Units.

      • I had it on two or three and whilst reports were mixed on ozb threads over the issue, I recall it being half the people agreeing on the problem so plenty of people had the same experience. I suspect also some owners may simply not have used it enough to diagnose they also had the problem

        When did you buy yours?

          Too long to remember.

I can say firsthand I've experienced this as well. I've considered sticking a switch in the back in series with the dimmer knob, but given how little I use my floodlights I may just stick to removing the battery as I've been doing.

    • I've had a small 1.5aH in the LED worklight for over a year. I only use it here and there for short periods of time, and then turn it off and put it away.

      No issues with battery leakage.

    • I read some comments about that after buying mine but tested it and there wasn't any noticeable current draw so I'm assuming it was fixed. Mine was from 2019/12

    • I've had two of the ozito ones (the 2000lm one similar to this) and they both have the phantom draw when switched off.
Not the end of the world for me as I mostly use them for night climbing, but gotta remember to not fully insert the battery when I throw them in the car to head out.

Very happy with the lights otherwise though.

    • I don't leave any batteries in any of my power tools (any brand, any tool). Read about the idle drawer of various tools which yeah would be annoying. Don't have that many batteries to go around for that lol. So not sure if the PowerG light is similar too.

    • Haha.. yeah, see what I mean about it being so 50/50 about people having or not having concerns?

Never had any issue with mine either. Have used them extensively over the last year while building at my place and not having power to that area. I have 2 of them. Both fantastic with a 4AH battery - lasts hours. Never have any issue between uses either.

I bought both of my Ozito worklights on half price special in the past when they matched Aldi - so they might not do it all they time, but they have done it previously.

Cmon Bunnings papa needs a new light!

  • I'm assuming it requires a proprietary Ferrex Battery?

    • +1

Yes, and they don't include the battery. It's not even for sale at my local aldi.

  • FWIW, I have the Ozito version but hardly use it. I have a Click TL1916 portable work light (similar to the Wuben C5) which gets a lot of use. The Ozito is brighter and has a longer run time, but the Click is much more compact and convenient.

    • Know what you mean. I have the Arlec version of the F5 and most of the time it's all I need and more convenient to grab than the Ozito plus a battery for it..

The Ozito has done its fair share while camping though.

Does the Ferrex brand still use the same batteries as the former Workzone brand?

    • +1

      Yep, still uses Xfinity batteries.

  • I wish bunnings would match the price for the PXC spotlight.
    Dont need but want.

  • so ugly
