Anbernic are back with another retro handheld game console and this one is pretty special, as it features a 3.95" 720x720 1:1 which makes the display a perfect square and a lot of handheld games fill up the screen really nicely. Like other handhelds this handles games up to the PS1, as well as the PSP, Gameboy, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Dreamcast and more.

Plus you can use Portmaster to run many PC ports, Moonlight to stream games and custom ROMs like KNULLI already have test builds out.

It has all the usual features including a dpad, joysticks with customisable RGB, ABXY buttons, L1/L2 & R1/R2 shoulder buttons, Mini HDMI output, dual microSD card slots, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, 3800mAh battery, USB-C charging, 3.5mm audio jack, vibration motor and more.

For reviews Retro Game Corps has it covered.

This is a presale with stock shipping in 6 days with free AU Priority Shipping. All microSD card storage bundles (32GB and above) and colours (White, Black, Grey) are on sale.

Another week, another new Anbernic device.

Gotta give them credit for all these different form factors at least ;)

      • +1

At least they are using the same chipset (Allwinner H700), so the same custom firmware works across all their XX devices.

Personally I recommend muOS or Knulli.

        • +1

          I Second muOS

          • +1

            @Slurped: Third

            • @PainToad: Don't you guys like the original? I actually enjoy using the OG fw

              • +1

@maverickjohn: OG fw isn't bad. I've also setup muOS and Knulli. I was about to buy this but then thought the it maybe cheaper from the upcoming Aliexpress sales.

                • +1

@habib23q: I tried muos very early in my rg35xxh days wasn't great back then. It was only new on the scene but I hated batocera. A lot of positive rep towards that but couldn't stand it. Went back to og.
Now I just use the retroid and have the 35xxh dumped in a draw lol

                  • +1

@maverickjohn: Yeah ive been using batocera for a long time now and it doesn't bother me. But this all depends on what features are important for you. I have the Rg35xx sp and Rg40xxh to use with these.

I've also still got my rgb30 which is similar to this in alot of ways and after initially doing the battery connect and disconnect I never had any issues with that. But when I get this, I'll be selling that off too.

                    • @habib23q: Battery pull did nothing on my RGB30 with rocknix. Not sure why they couldn't fix what jelos got right in the first place.

                      • +1

@Fullhalter: I tried Rocknix and straight away changed over to Arkos. Never had an issue since. Try it. Hope it helps.

    • A week without a new anbernic device is a week wasted

  • +3

By the time this sales finishes, Anbernic would have released 2 new devices.

  • I'm so torn, do I wait until gamecube retro machines are this cheap, or do I give in to my urge to play super mario 2 from gameboy again?

    Decisions, decisions.

    • You'll probably need an Android Device if you want to emulate Gamecube.

    • +1

They're closer and closer, can be got around the 200 mark quite often which blows my mind every time.

If you wanna just play older stuff while you wait it out though, get an R36S or something else in that price range rather than this one.

What's the advantage of this over buying at aliex directly? Does it come with cfw?

    • It's cheaper than AliExpress.

  • Oh I didn’t know there was the RgCubeXX I thought it’s the RgCube lol

    • +1

This price I'd buy 3 of the OG

      • +1

Unusual why they would make a weaker rg cube honestly.. also, they should have called it cube lite or something.. instead of xx

      • Right? I was about to buy it until I thought hey let me do some research before I do

  • NiNteNdo GameCUBE

  • I remember when people thought XX was an internal code that they accidently left on the release product (RG35XX). Now they've really leaned into the XX naming.
