First time poster. Used it before and from experience, the hotel prices aren't inflated with Virgin. Works well for me for an upcoming Europe trip when I need to book anyways.

Just compared with Wotif on a few hotels and it looks similar $$ so a great deal for extra points.
    Thanks OP :)

    • It varies a LOT between hotels. I just booked one through Virgin and whilst the price was about $20 more for a 3 night stay than booking directly, they included free cancellation (As well as the extra points).

Some others I looked at were $80+ more for the same room with Virgin though.

What do you do with Virgin points? Last year, 79,999 points got us two balcony cruise tickets worth over $3,000. But yesterday I checked a domestic flight SYD to ADL, and one way was 40,000+ points. With no long-haul flights of its own, the points seem pretty limited. Even with Platinum status, you only get a free upgrade to business class if you book a nearly full-price Flexi economy ticket. Plus, everyone uses the same lounge, and there’s no lifetime status like Qantas. Is it just me, or does the Velocity FF program feel underwhelming?

There's a difference between award seats, and being able to "pay with points". I suspect you found seats you could use points to pay for, 40k sounds high. I recently got Sydney to London (one way) Business Class flights for ~156,000.

They announced lifetime status this week.

Also the standard SYD-ADL cost is 8,900 points. 40k is the jacked price that happens if you want to fly at a busier time.

Velocity FF isn't life changing, but at least you can get seats relatively easily unlike Qantas FF

You can use the points for long haul flights on their partners, such as Qatar Airways.

Definitely not 40,000 points between Adelaide and Sydney, try searching again for an award seat, and you'll find them for well under 10,000.

      • Virgin have applied to the government to start long haul flights again from June 2025.

They do have lifetime status coming, it's called Gold Forever, and they are also introducing Platinum Plus.
They also have Beyond Lounges (SYD, MEL, BNE), but you need to be a very very high value customer to be invited as a Beyond member.

      • Is that the equivalent of the chairman’s lounge?

        • It was but has been severely cut down in the last 5 years.

You can redeem velocity points on VA’s long haul partners. Singapore, Qatar etc.
40000 for Sydney to Adelaide, Is the any seat reward not the award seat price.
They have also just announced life time status.

  • By rocket travel by Agoda. That’s two third parties with my personal information. Eugh.
