Get a $100 Hotel Voucher for Purchasing an International Travel Insurance Policy @ Budget Direct

531

Receive a $100 hotel gift voucher when you purchase an International Travel Insurance policy.

After purchasing the policy you should receive an email within 48h with a link to claim the voucher.
Or you can try to go directly to the claim page https://cloud.em.budgetdirect.com.au/travelhotelvoucherclaim… and put you policy number an email address.

The voucher takes you to a booking website travelcredits.com "Powered by Expedia" where you will have $100 credit.
If the cost is less than $100 it looks like you can complete the booking without paying anything.
The voucher is valid for one year.

The cheapest policy I could find was for a traveler aged 12 or under going for 1 day to Fiji and increasing the excess to maximum, then the Basic plan ends up at $12.57
Edit: Important, they seems to be enforcing the "aged 18 or over" requirement and not sending vouchers for policies taken for younger travelers. See below for T&C about age and ID requirements.
For other ages, New Zealand looks like it's one of the cheapest at around $20 (thanks @mvinaus for finding out).

T&C: https://www.budgetdirect.com.au/terms-conditions/travelhotel…

Edit:
Some important info from the T&C (Thanks @b0b0 and @Embaloo for pointing it out):

In order to be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher, the customer must meet all of the following criteria (Eligible Participant):
a. be an Australian resident aged 18 or over at time of entry

The Promoter reserves the right to request that an Eligible Participant provides supporting documentary evidence of their identity (e.g. driver’s licence, passport, birth certificate) within the cooling off period. If the Eligible Participant fails to do so, or the Promoter determines the policy does not meet the eligibility criteria of the offer, the Eligible Participant will not be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher.

FAQ:
How long does it take to receive the voucher?
For me it took around 7 hours. Edit: Sorry I mixed up the email times, it was actually received 22 hours after receiving the policy email.
Edit: It seems they are now taking much longer to send the voucher. Some people reported 50+ hours.
Others didn't receive the email but managed to claim the voucher by using the claim page posted above and entering the email and policy number. But still needing to wait 48+ hours to be able to claim.

What website is used for the booking? What hotels are available? What are the prices?
The booking is done on this website https://en-au.travelcredits.com
Then the voucher is actually a username and pin to log in, and once logged in you will have $100 credit.
The website mentions "Powered by Expedia" under the name and from a quick side by side comparison the results are similar to Expedia and the prices are the same.
But the website is very basic and doesn't have any option to sort by price. It might be easier to use Expedia to find the hotel you want then use the map to find the same one on travelcredits.com.
Screenshot of the booking website

Can vouchers be stacked?
I haven't tried but I doubt it.
Because of how the voucher works since it's actually just a login to the booking website.

Is there a time limit to use the voucher?
Mine says "Valid until 17 October 2025" so I assume it's one year.

Is there a minimum spend to use the voucher?
Doesn't look like it. If the price of the booking is less than $100 then the final price becomes $0 and it looks like you can complete the booking without giving any payment details.
There is a "Book Now $0" button which looks like the last step
(I haven't actually completed a booking so it might not work, others would need to confirm)

Reckon you could buy say 10 policies and get $1000 hotel vouchers for $120.57? Could multiple vouchers be used for the same hotel booking? I see this being exploited…by me!

    • +4

It doesn't look that the vouchers can stack.

But you could make separate bookings for each night to uses several vouchers.

      • +3

Imagine having to check out at 10am each day then checking into a new room at 2pm.

        • +4

You could contact the hotel, I've joined multiple stays before to use booking.com offers. It's less work for them anyway.

        • +1

if its all at the same hotel and they see it in the system, they will just keep you in the same room

    • Challenge accepted!

  • I gave it a go

But when putting policy details into the direct link above to try & claim/check voucher I just get an error….

    • +1

Maybe takes time for the system to update/sync since the policy just newly created.

      • yes, just wait a bit

        • still waiting away 7 hours later…

  • The cheapest policy that I found is $24.26 (BASIC) for 10Y traveller to Fiji in Nov 2024 for 1 day. How to get $12?

    • +1

Did you put 1 and 0 in each of the two boxes for the age? If so, it will make a quote for 2 travellers (one aged 1 and the other aged 0).

      • Thanks for posting! So we're just making up the info for the young traveller lol?

        • +2

Yeah my two young traveller is called Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix

  • Purchased for cheapest $13.46 let's see

  • Anyone know what are the prices like when booking through travelcredits.com?

  • +4

Hey OP, can you confirmed if the promotion worked for you?

    Curious as the T&C says:

In order to be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher, the customer must meet all of the following criteria (Eligible Participant):

    • be an Australian resident aged 18 or over at time of entry;
    • I received the voucher for a Policy I bought for myself so I put my actual age (over 18).

I think this wording means the person who buys the policy but not necessarily the person the policy applies to.

If you're not sure you can put the age to 18, it only increases the price a bit.

      • How long before you received the voucher?

        • About 7 hours.

          • @lorikeet: What website is used for booking?
Does the $100 voucher have a minimum spend?

            Thx

            • @easternculture: I just put more detailed info in the post which answer your questions.

      • Budget not on finder.com for travel insurance. Wonder why?

        • +1

I think thats an unrelated topic (in my view) because not every company wants to work with aggregator

I just took a look, not even the major brands are on finder. Aggregators usually compares only a subset of insurers available in the market. Just like how Compare The Market doesn't even have major insurers like AAMI, NRMA, RACV, Allianz, QBE, etc

        • +1

because they aren't paying them enough $$$ to be included…

          • @dahax77: I have worked for NRMA and Allianz, it's against their strategy to jump on aggregator platform. Aggregator platform has crazy competition with just price alone. Companies who pride themselves with a better product, process or branding will usually avoid aggregator like it's a pest.

Of course the commission is also a factor

  • +3

Travel insurance by law has a 15 day cooling off period I believe; could one theoretically buy a $13 policy, use the voucher then cancel the policy for a refund?

  • Budget Direct usually sends the bonus gift card/voucher to customers after their purchased policy has passed the cooling off period.

    • +2

      It says:

"Receive an email within 48 hours to claim your $100 hotel credit."

      • Oh wow! This is so going to be OzBargained soon lol.

    • I received the email with the voucher link about 7h after I ordered the policy.

  • For anyone who now has the hotel voucher is there a time limit on when you can spend it?

    • +6

Yes you need to spend it asap before BudgetDirect finds out what's going on and cancels the voucher.

  • Underrated post. Amazing value OP lol.

Are we sure one can't get multiple vouchers on the same account? Can they not stack?

  • what hotels available

    • Seconded, is it any on expedia.com?

    • +1

From a quick side by side comparision it looks the same as the ones found on Expedia with the same prices.

  • Does anyone know if you purchase multiple policies, can you use more than one $100 voucher for the same booking (i.e. use two vouchers for a hotel that costs $200 p/night)?

    • Has already been asked above….

  • +1

Be interesting to see the prices on the website compare for the hotels.

  • +1

I've tried one for my actual age - cheapest of the ones I tried was NZ for me 19.66

  • Bought a policy last night. Still waiting on voucher.

Used the link above to manually redeem my voucher and it said:

Sorry, the details you have entered are incorrect.
Please try again and ensure you have entered your International Travel Insurance Policy Number and Email Address correctly.

If you require any assistance redeeming your voucher please email [email protected]

    Anyone else had this issue?

    • +2

      Same, no voucher yet

Either because the vouchers are allocated manually (during work hour), or Too Bad So Sad, Budget Direct finds a way to decline us lol

    • +1

      Same for me too.

      • +1

So we wait for up to 48 hours and see what happens…

    • +1

Same - reluctant to get more than one until I see some proof we are actually getting a voucher.

      • Likewise.

  • Does the insurance policy have free cancelation before travel?

  • +1

    Beware

The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any person from receiving the Hotel Gift Voucher if any of the following occurs:
If it suspects fraudulent activity; or
for a breach of these Terms and Conditions; or
if it decides the person has not acted in good faith; or
for any false or misleading conduct of any kind.

    • I assume in that case they will refund the transactions too?

      • Transactions have cooling off periods anyway

        • I'm finding it hard to cancel.

          Live chat refused to help

  • +2

    I never got my voucher

    • Neither, paid 26 hours ago

      • Same here

      • +1

        Got scammed

      • "Receive an email within 48 hours to claim your $100 hotel credit."

      • If it's been ozbargained then they should take down the offer page

  • +1

Budget Direct marketing team probably called into a meeting this arvo…. "Why have we had a 10,000% increase in 12-year old policies flying to NZ for a 1 day holiday in the last 24hrs?"

    • +1

Maybe choose 2 days. It’s the same price.

    • +1

And the names are oddly suspicious. I remember someone here used Calvin Hobbes as their child's name.

Others could have used Mickey Mouse, Lisa or Bart Simpson etc. 😅

  • Anyone got their policy?

    • You mean voucher? No, not yet

  • +2

About 4 hours to go before we work out whether we've been scammed or not on this one…..

I'm assuming no one besides OP has actually received the voucher.

    • +2

Maybe OP didn’t receive the voucher and just trying to scam us 🤔

      • I did receive the voucher, that's how I was able to post screenshots of the booking website.

They actually sent me the email with the claim link 3 times with one day interval between each.

    • Correct. 5 hra to go here. Used accurate details too. Looking at the privacy policy though, regretting it.
The direct link still not working.

The policy docs did go to junk mail but still nothing in junk either.

  • I received the policy confirmation to my email, then I put the policy number (only number after the '#' sign) and my email to https://cloud.em.budgetdirect.com.au/travelhotelvoucherclaim… but I see the error message of "Sorry, the details you have entered are incorrect.
Please try again and ensure you have entered your International Travel Insurance Policy Number and Email Address correctly.
If you require any assistance redeeming your voucher please email [email protected]".

Is this normal? or we should just wait for the voucher to come to the email inbox later.

    • The policy number generates the voucher.

      • I understand and I entered the policy number and my email as required by the webform. The issue is when I entered them, the result turns out they can't find my policy. Not sure if there is a manual process for their staff to upload the purchase history to another database to generate the voucher (e.g. overnight and not real-time).

    • Has it been 48 hours?

    • Hi all, update on my situation. I visited the website again today and entered my policy number and email, and now I can see the details of my voucher.
There must be a manual process to validate and upload from one database to another database in the backend.

I have also sent an email to follow up last night at [email protected], so not sure if this speeds things up.

  • For those who added fake details and trips, you probably ticked the decleration at end of application that all information is correct.

Which means in this case, if you intend to complain to insurance ombudsman, you might get yourself in trouble

    • But I want my $12.57 back!

    • Can't get a hold of them anyways

      • Cause they know they can get away with it legally

        • Cooling off period should still apply, otherwise just do a chargeback on your card

          • @nicholasv: Not if you willingly committed fraud and wasted their resources. They could charge you a fee for that or even take you to court for compensation if they wanted.

            • @easternculture: Yeap, just like all those court cases against people that lied on their mortgage applications /s

              • @star-ggg: Im just saying they could if they wanted to.
Whoever applied with fake details knew there was a risk, and i did warn against insurance fraud in the previous woolworths deal.

Best to take it as a learning curve and move on

                • @easternculture: What compensation can we get for following Budget Direct's T&Cs with real details and not receiving our vouchers?

                  • +2

@star-ggg: You can dispute with financial and insurance ombudsman. When BD call you to resolve complaint ask for a $200 voucher for the inconvenience.

When i had issues with amex, they willingly offered me $250 (twice) to close the dispute with financial ombudsman, even though i never asked for compensation. First time to refund annual fee as i never used the travel credit due to covid restrictions ($199 + $250 inconvenience credit refunded) and second time when i changed card to essential no fee and they didnt transfer my points (points added + $250 inconvenience added to card account). All done via email

  • Anybody got holdof them? tried calling and email but no response. no sign of voucher yet

    • No luck with me despite multiple attempts

      • Real or fake details

        • Why does it matter? They should respond when they are contacted.

  • I received voucher for a policyholder over 18 years old, I did not receive voucher for another one that is 3 years old (my daughter).

    Both are real details.

    • +2

      Maybe because of this:

In order to be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher, the customer must meet all of the following criteria (Eligible Participant):

      be an Australian resident aged 18 or over at time of entry;

  • +2

Been over 48hrs, no voucher, contacted email with no response, I got scammed
