Get a $100 Hotel Voucher for Purchasing an International Travel Insurance Policy @ Budget Direct

531

Receive a $100 hotel gift voucher when you purchase an International Travel Insurance policy.

After purchasing the policy you should receive an email within 48h with a link to claim the voucher.
Or you can try to go directly to the claim page https://cloud.em.budgetdirect.com.au/travelhotelvoucherclaim… and put you policy number an email address.

The voucher takes you to a booking website travelcredits.com "Powered by Expedia" where you will have $100 credit.
If the cost is less than $100 it looks like you can complete the booking without paying anything.
The voucher is valid for one year.

The cheapest policy I could find was for a traveler aged 12 or under going for 1 day to Fiji and increasing the excess to maximum, then the Basic plan ends up at $12.57
Edit: Important, they seems to be enforcing the "aged 18 or over" requirement and not sending vouchers for policies taken for younger travelers. See below for T&C about age and ID requirements.
For other ages, New Zealand looks like it's one of the cheapest at around $20 (thanks @mvinaus for finding out).

T&C: https://www.budgetdirect.com.au/terms-conditions/travelhotel…

Edit:
Some important info from the T&C (Thanks @b0b0 and @Embaloo for pointing it out):

In order to be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher, the customer must meet all of the following criteria (Eligible Participant):
a. be an Australian resident aged 18 or over at time of entry

The Promoter reserves the right to request that an Eligible Participant provides supporting documentary evidence of their identity (e.g. driver’s licence, passport, birth certificate) within the cooling off period. If the Eligible Participant fails to do so, or the Promoter determines the policy does not meet the eligibility criteria of the offer, the Eligible Participant will not be eligible for the Hotel Gift Voucher.

FAQ:
How long does it take to receive the voucher?
For me it took around 7 hours. Edit: Sorry I mixed up the email times, it was actually received 22 hours after receiving the policy email.
Edit: It seems they are now taking much longer to send the voucher. Some people reported 50+ hours.
Others didn't receive the email but managed to claim the voucher by using the claim page posted above and entering the email and policy number. But still needing to wait 48+ hours to be able to claim.

What website is used for the booking? What hotels are available? What are the prices?
The booking is done on this website https://en-au.travelcredits.com
Then the voucher is actually a username and pin to log in, and once logged in you will have $100 credit.
The website mentions "Powered by Expedia" under the name and from a quick side by side comparison the results are similar to Expedia and the prices are the same.
But the website is very basic and doesn't have any option to sort by price. It might be easier to use Expedia to find the hotel you want then use the map to find the same one on travelcredits.com.
Screenshot of the booking website

Can vouchers be stacked?
I haven't tried but I doubt it.
Because of how the voucher works since it's actually just a login to the booking website.

Is there a time limit to use the voucher?
Mine says "Valid until 17 October 2025" so I assume it's one year.

Is there a minimum spend to use the voucher?
Doesn't look like it. If the price of the booking is less than $100 then the final price becomes $0 and it looks like you can complete the booking without giving any payment details.
There is a "Book Now $0" button which looks like the last step
(I haven't actually completed a booking so it might not work, others would need to confirm)

    • Did you end up receiving the voucher?

Was the policy for a person over 18 years old?

You can try the claim link I put in the post and enter your email and policy number. Other people were able to get the voucher this way.

    • Looks like they are not the only ones not answering!

  • +1

Hey, I got one! 51 hrs later.

    • For what age did you get the policy for?

      • adults only

  • +2

Still waiting for mine 48 hours later…..legit details given and over 18.

    • +1

Entered my policy details on the OP's link and it worked - got the voucher.

      • I'm 3 days in still nothing using url

        • The person on the policy is under 18 I assume?

          • @runamuck: Yes but legit not fake and true destination

            • @mr_asstight: As per some of the comments, it appears that the people that booked it with under 18 are not receiving the vouchers. As per the terms, the participant needs to be over 18.

      • +1

Cool. I haven't received the email as well however tried the link and it worked.

I received my voucher within the given timeframe. The booking site's UI is an absolute disaster. You can't even search by price, and can't even book for the same day. What a joke. Don't get me started with the prices. I've done a quick comparison with other popular OTA's, and this mob is by far the most expensive. Obviously, for this deal you can still come out way ahead depending on the property you book, but just remember that your 'profit' can quickly be eaten away by their higher prices. For those still waiting for their voucher, it might have to do with the age of the traveller being under 18 as some have already mentioned.

    • I haven't had time to do a comprehensive comparison but my clicking through a few hotels + dates leads me to the same conclusion. I'd say the voucher is worth about $60 compared to say Trip.com with cashback. Can't complain though, it's a free $60.

  • +1

This reminds me of the old hoover promotion in the UK. "Buy a Hoover and get two return flights to USA".

If a deal is too good to be true, someone in the marketing department messed up.

My voucher came through, but it was for a legit policy for a real adult. $20 for a short trip to New Zealand. as @wcm8382 said, the mobile UI is not great. The only search is dates and place, the scroll through thousands of listings. The website has options to narrow the search.

Prices are full price Expedia, so know % cashback or Agoda/Trip pricing. Best option I've found is for one night with maybe a small co-pay. You may need a number of short international trips to get enough vouchers for a week's hotel accommodation. Some people see that as a lot of effort. I see it as a challenge.

In other news, Air Fiji has just announced that all of their flights to Australia will have extra infant seats to meet an unexpected increase in demand.

    • +1

But the unexpected demand will disappear with seats cancellation the moment when Budget direct picks up with cancellation llist!!

I called up to cancel mine and get my 13 bucks back, was relatively painless.

legitimate traveller but was under 18 so no sign of voucher in email or via the link.

Was worth a shot but based on feedback of the value of the voucher and the pain of searching for hotels decided it's not worth paying the 20 bucks for an adult.

  • Anyone book multiple places or days with multiple vouchers? What was your experience?

  • Been 48 hours and still nothing.

    • Did you get the vouchers. Same with me. No vouchers even after 72 hours. Purchased insurance for age 34

      • I didn't receive the voucher but I entered the details in the link that OP posted and it worked 👍

        • Ok will try. Thanks.

Edit : It worked with the link. Thanks.

  • Does anyone foresee bookings being cancelled if the voucher is used and then the insurance policy being cancelled under the cooling off clause?

Hotel booking date is for the future (after cancelling the policy).

    • +1

Seems unlikely that they would cancel the booking tbh but never know

    • +1

Once the voucher gets spent I can’t see how they can take it back. They can however void the voucher if it’s unused though.

  • I'm keen to know as well if the bookings will remain valid if the insurance policy is cancelled. This is what I think will happen for the following scenarios. If one decides to cancel their future-dated policy (within the cooling-off period) straight after completing the booked stay, I doubt BD will reject a refund request. However, if one decides to cancel their policy but hasn't actually completed a booked stay yet at the time of cancellation, BD would no doubt still provide a refund, but the booking site may invalidate the available credit due to not meeting the requirements of the offer. In any case, I'd treat this hack with caution. Personally, I'm content with just keeping the insurance policy, whether I'll actually end up using it or not.

  • Anyone got a chance to use the voucher already? Just wanted to confirm if there are any other hiccups during / after booking.

    • +1

I have made my booking and staying there on 3 November for one night

      • Good to know.Thanks

Is there any further checks during booking like mobile number etc or just the voucher and any name should be fine ?

        • You put your mobile in for the booking details, but doesn't necessarily have to be the same one as your policy (not sure if that's what you're asking)

          • +1

@nicholasv: Yes that's what I meant to ask. Thank you !!

            • @Yogi555: No issues with my booking. All went smoothly. Room was cheaper than half price through taking out the policy. Might try and cancel in the cooling off period too, we will see how it goes

  • +1

Tried to use my voucher and found that the hotel I was planning to book offered 2 nights for the price of 1 on Expedia (and elsewhere), but not on https://en-au.travelcredits.com/, which furthermore only offered one of the more expensive rooms.

End result, with the voucher, this hotel cost around 2.5 times as much as Expedia.

It's a shame you can't see the prices until you've got the voucher.

Now I'm in the process of trying to cancel / get a refund for my NZ travel insurance.

BTW, don't forget to increase the excess to $300 for your NZ daytrip.

  • +1

Is there anything against one person purchasing multiple policies and get multiple vouchers?

Already got one and saved $70 (cancelled an already booked hotel which was $10 cheaper)
Got a few more single night stays (though savings would only be $50 at current prices) Already accounted $20 for cost of voucher

    • When did your vouchers arrived?

      • +1

3 days later in junk folder
but was able to retrieve the login details from the site around 48 hours after

        • And you did multiple policies and all came through?

    • +2

Just a heads up purchased an additional policy using the same details as a previous one and got the voucher (well no email but login and code using the link)

  • Has anyone tried booking with these mob? I've booked a stay and got the confirmation number and everything. However when I call to the hotel, the booking doesn't show up in the system.

    • +1

I am staying at my accommodation now and didn't have any issues

      • Might have to check with the hotel as it didn't show up after 1 hour into the booking. Anyway going to bank up a few more vouchers.

  • Is the hotel booking name under the same name as the Policy holders name?

    • Mine isn’t. You add your booking details separately.

  • +2

I applied and waited about 2 days, then tried the website link to check which failed and ended up sending an email to the the tlcrewards people as directed. Voucher came the next day. So all up 50hrs? Not sure whether sending that email helped or not. But my policy was legit in that I'm actually looking to fly away next month.

Its correct in that the website is powered by Expedia, but you won't get the whole range. You can only select the cities it has listed (if you want regional you're out of luck) and as reported for the most part the prices are full price from Expedia. Not to say they jack the price up, but room selection is also limited and there's a weird bug that doesn't allow you to select the different room options. Since I was getting $100 off I decided to choose a nicer place which didn't seem to be doing discounts on any platform so fingers crossed my booking is valid when I go over in a month's time.

    • +1

Don't think sending that email worked. People are so impatient these days. Although the site says it will be sent within 48 hours, most are sent out a little after 48 hours. Waiting that extra day won't hurt.

  • OP if you still have access to the booking link, any chance you could screenshot the hotels listed from cheapest in NSW for some idea of regional prices? (Or Sydney NSW?) Thanks for your post update. Cancelled the legit but underage policy but thinking to re-do, its just a pain that you cant see the options available beforehand.

    • +1

Try searching on Expedia first, the hotel listing and prices on the website appear identical to Expedia's

      • It's not identical as it's the full price of Expedia and not the discounted price.
