Kim Jong Un is in North Korea.

    • Such an intelligent and creative comment.

Perma IP ban this guy plz.

      • Most domestic IP's are dynamic and change every couple days anyway :(

Just like a Singapore Airlines jet, that flew over quite a few heads.

  • +3

Might be more stylish to fly Singapore Air - but the stop over ruins it for me…

"While you can fly direct from SYD/BNE from $496 return on Jetstar, sometimes it's nicer to fly" direct!

eg SIN Arr 20:30 Dep 02:30
Although Singapore airport is great for a stopover & SA is more reliable!

I've always flown to SK carry on only

any cheap flights for this year?

  • +1

    Nicer dates now.

And for all the poo poo about direct flights - some of us (ahem ADL) don't have the luxury of direct or multiple airlines - it's this or Malaysian, pretty much

    • How long is the list of reasons not to live in Adelaide?

      Too hot in Summer.
      Too cold in Winter.

    • +1

all the poo poo about direct flights

      Everyone has different requirements.
Direct from BNE with Jetstar 9h45
Singapore on same day is 25h55!!

A huge difference in travel time.
      And loss of holiday time!
Hence the preference (where available) for direct flights!

Having flown many times direct to Japan on Jetstar - I use the flight for a nice nap, arriving refreshed. Airport layover is not so relaxing.

OP: "nicer to fly in style"

Most features of a better airline (luggage, food, etc) are not of much interest to me. Travelling for month only with carry-on luggage, sleeping through flight… I don't notice.

      • Im not debating those reasons. But Jetstar from Adelaide is almost always via Cairns.

So super long flight, low budget wonder and no benefits aside from a few hundo savings.

These deals are fantastic for us. East coast and you'd preferance ANA, JAL, Cathay etc

        • But Jetstar from Adelaide is almost always via Cairns.
          So super long flight

          *Things have changed…

As Jetstar recently introduced direct services from Sydney & Brisbane (with more direct services planned), flights from Adelaide show as via Sydney from Feburary.

That means faster travel time & better for transfers.

Singapore Airlines from Adelaide shows about 44hr return - that is a "super long flight"!!

(For me, Direct Flight time from Brisbane is 9h45 each way.)

That's the reason for discussion of faster Direct flights!

Jetstar increases flights to Seoul, as South Korea becomes new Aussie favourite
"The expansion will make the budget airline the largest carrier between Australia and South Korea."

          • @INFIDEL: My last js flight had plane problems that meant I was stuck in Gold Coast for an extra day for what was supposed to be one our stopover from Sydney.

It's things like this that scare me. With direct flights will they have issues where they just don't have a spare plane and then you are stuck for an extra day?

            • @furyou: My last js flight - When was that?
With the new focus on Korea - that's changing.

Jetstar stopped flying direct to Seoul from the Gold Coast.

A major reason - there are no maintenance operations there. And no spare planes.

I've been delayed 24hr there while an engine part was brought in on the next flight from Singapore. That was with Singapore Airlines owned Scoot. Scoot stopped flights from Gold Coast since COVID.
So not just an issue with Jetstar!

Direct flights are to be from Brisbane & Sydney - with more Jetstar aircraft & major maintenance operations.

              • @INFIDEL: mine was syd gc jp, ages ago. 5hrs wait in airport, then finally supplied hotel at 1am, but have to be ready to go at 5am for flight.
been scared since. of js in general.

                • @furyou: It can happen anywhere with all airlines. Even with world class airlines out of major hubs like Heathrow. (That happened to me.)

If you fly enough, you will have delays & bad experiences. Have been lucky with my many Jetstar flights to Japan.

Had a frustrating long delay on JAL flight to Seoul from Tokyo, due to "maintenance". That's their massive base, with their maintenance hub & so many aircraft available. So should not have happened. But it did!

Things have changed for Gold Coast Airport operations. Qld Govt subsidies once were available to fly from there.

Think Jetstar now only flies direct domestic & Pacific flights from there. Just announced more NZ flights.

There have been no direct flights to Japan. That change happened years ago. There's not the demand there once was for Japan flights from there.
Flights to Japan now fly from Gold Coast via other departure points like Cairns, Melbourne, etc.

Should be an improvement flying Jetstar to Seoul direct out of Brisbane & now Sydney announced. Further departure locations to be announced.

Looking forward to future Jetstar Deals to Seoul. With so many added services there will be vacant seats to sell!

      • Absolutely. Hard to argue at these prices and with the improved season

  • Off season, as well as a stop over instead of direct, thus more travel time.

    • Loss of up to a day or longer due to return travel time, vs direct flights!
That isn't good on short trips.
Consider that as a loss of a day of income / holiday⌚

Weather & when to travel was discussed in Jetstar Deal
That Deal covered a wider range of dates Feb-Sep.
      Feb-Mar here doesn't suit me.

"South Korea remains in the throes of winter during February. In Seoul, temperatures range from an average high of 4°C to an average low of -7°C."
"Seoul finally warms up significantly in March, with an average monthly temperature of 4°C. This is six degrees warmer than the February average. March daytime highs average 9°C. Nights are still below freezing, averaging -2°C."

Prefer Spring, but not heat & humidity of Summer or very cold Winter.

      • +1

Was there last year in January. Minus 4-6 was daily at night. Not unbearable if you had thermals but I did run out for a new beanie and gloves.

If you've done a Canberra winter, or thereabouts, that's what to expect.

        • +1

-15C in December❄ He was staying with his Korean family, in nice heated home. But still found it cold.

Even with layers of good hiking thermals, down jacket, gloves, etc - found 0C during day in November limiting for what I wanted to do.

Maybe OK if staying inside visiting family there, or for a short visit. But was not so pleasant for a month exploring Korea.

Certainly enjoyed the Jimjilbangs - bathhouse & sauna. A wonderful warming Korean experience.

I've hiked in snow covered mountains in Tasmania & 2500m in Japan. Been caught in blizzard (search party was being organised to rescue me - made it back).
But I planned for that weather - up to 2 weeks at a time. Then warm up around a fire.

Continuous freezing temp in cities etc is not what I consider fun!
Like most Australians, I wouldn't endure Canberra Winters!! That's why I live up North.

Went back in Spring for the Cherry blossoms. And basked on granite boulders on long walks in Seoraksan National Park. Bliss!

          Some love the cold❄ I don't!

  • North Korea-related jokes should be banned. Do you not realise the privilege of having a device capable of searching discount flight deals on a non-restricted internet without being under potential surveillance, and the fear of being punished by leaving the country?

    • Your idea of freedom is banning?

  • +2

March is still too cold in South Korea.
