In the market for a QHD OLED high refresh rate monitor. Have been keeping an eye on this to see if it will drop closer to $1K again. Amazon and JB Hi-Fi has had it for just over $1100 for the past few days (from my observation at least).

Dell has today price dropped to $1119.80 before discount presumably to match Amazon and JB Hi-Fi.

Apply coupon code DNCPAU10 to drop it down to $1007.82 plus $1.00 rounding adjustment = $1006.82 with free delivery (to SE QLD at least).

Explain the need for this many hz?

120 is surely enough. But hey… go ahead folks, have your 360hz fps hack.

        • I went to 270 from 144 and it was a huge upgrade. Not as much as 60 to 144, but still, it was worth it for me.

          • @pharcyde: just wondering, if your graphics card can only output 144-160fps, would changing a 144hz 1440p monitor to 270hz/360hz still an upgrade and noticable difference?

        • That's what people used to say about 60 and they swore by it.

          • @Tbargain12: I used to played CS2 on my LG 4K 120hz monitor but switched to this and now I can't go back to 120hz for competitive games. 360hz just feels soo smooth!

            • +1

              @Slurped: Ya, I had a 144hz, 360hz just feel so much better.

            • @Slurped: Is the game running at 360fps? Or is it doing some interesting BFI to make it smooth? I just wonder what is actually happening at these high levels

          • -4

@Tbargain12: 60 is glorious. But sure, for those 12 people that play competitive fps games that’s just so happen to be browsing OzBargain, here a great deal for ya!

            • +1

@EitherWayUp: I don’t under this take lol, competitive FPS games are some of the most popular games

              • @mon4rkh: Probably some neckbeard who can't fathom playing a game other than Elden Ring

                • -1

@pharcyde: Nah my beard is clean. Never played Elden ring. Just find it funny alleged “pros” think they need 360hz to win. You don’t.. you know it, I know it we all know it.

                  • @EitherWayUp: Yeah you definitely don’t need it to win, but there’s also an undeniable advantage. If someone has the money to make their hobbies enjoyable then why not?

            • @EitherWayUp: LOL if you can't tell the difference between 60 and 120fps you may have some sort of issue with your vision. I don't play any competitive fps games, mainly rpgs or strategy games and I'm still happy if 60 is all i can get at max detail levels, but the difference between 60 and 120 is still obvious, so i can see how people would prioritise smoothness over image quality

              • @DanielP2: There is definitely a difference. My 60fps being glorious reference was a little joke but too many serious PC folk here to understand. I game at up to 120 where my system can handle it. I just think 360hz is ridiculous.. which it is.

I don't think many actually "need" 360Hz, but personally:

      • I enjoy the smoothness of a high refresh rate screen, even for non-gaming use.
      • I play games that run at well over 300 FPS so can actually benefit from this.
      • If the monitor costs this much it may as well have the capability.
      • Motion clarity from such high refresh rate helps me with eye strain.

Don't know why people get stuck on 'need' for these types of deals. When you are spending $1000+ on a monitor we are well beyond the point of basic needs being met, the same way no one 'needs' a 4080.

    • 120 to 240 does make a significant difference. 240 to 360 far less so, for me as an amateur FPS snob. Actually I don't notice when my FPS fluctuates in the 240-360 window. In theory the slightly faster time to display new info does make a difference to 'pro gamers'.

Personally I wouldn't spend extra for 360. If there was an OLED monitor with similar specs except 240hz for less, I'd go for that instead. But perhaps there isn't? And the extra doesn't hurt.

      • Are you using OLED or LCD? the sub-millisecond GTG times on OLED do make the refresh rate more noticeable as there's no smearing whatsoever.

I'm not disagreeing with you - personally I can't tell much of a difference above 144hz even on OLED but I imagine once we hit 1000hz it'll be indistinguisable from motion in the real world.

        • On OLED yeah. I didn't really notice it, though, it's the kind of thing you become more attuned to over time, perhaps years ago I would have said I couldn't tell the difference between 100 and 144.

      • Do you have a 360 screen?

  • +4

It's hard to recommend this when you can see the other oz post for the Samsung g6 at 680ish.

    • Good point. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience (3 times between myself and family members) with Samsung's trade in process. Took months to fight for our money back.

They make great products including the G6 OLED but until a different retailer sells it for a good price, it's not something I would consider.

      • Not sure how it had worked previously but currently you simply tick trade up and it auto takes the 200 bucks off the price. So you don't pay then get a rebate. They pick up the old screen at the time of delivery for the new screen.

Also the screen can be broken….so it's basically an waste service…

  • I've had this monitor for roughly 5 months. I play fps games above 300 and rpgs. Do you really need 360hz? Probably not. But it is one of the cheaper 27 inch qd OLEDs and 3 years warranty + dells excellent customer service is why I got it. Don't regret.

  • Got excited for a sec then realised it's only 1440p

    • +3

I'm gonna be real, I don't know what gpu you have but 4k @ 360hz is not an easy task to ask of most modern computers for most modern games. There is a 4k 240hz 32" Alienware available for a similar price though if that's what you're after

      • Yeah I think I just got excited and assumed that the 4k OLEDs had come down in price. You're right, I wouldn't be able to render anything close to take advantage of the 360hz on that monitor and I have a 4080. Currently have an LG Ultragear 1440p OLED and it looks amazing rendering in 4k and downscaling to 1440p, but would be nice to have the extra crispness of true 4k.

It is poor value considering the 32 inch 4K 240hz OLED is available for $200 more on sale or the Samsung G6 is <$700.

Furthermore, with the 32 inch 4K 240hz if you are playing FPS you can drop the resolution to 3200x1800 and scale it so its centered and you have almost exactly a 27 inch monitor, but with better detail than a 27 inch 1440p oled.

    • Not everyone wants a 32 inch monitor, the intended market for this is esports gamers. OLED with its superior response times and 360hz. 1440p and 27 inch is a great res and size for esports, 360 fps is achievable for a solid lineup of builds. 32 inch 240hz is a completely different market
