Does anyone know if TRS apply to used products?

    • +3

It does as long as there's a GST component on the invoice.

    • +2

Yes, I claimed the GST back through TRS at the cruise terminal in Melb around this time last year for a Dell 2in1 lappy purchased from this seller, all good…

The first Tax-Invoice I asked for didn't include the words "Tax Invoice", it was just headed with "Invoice", Border Security state it must be called "Tax Invoice", so I asked him to send it again with those words, all good and no issues…

      • when you return back to australia
do you need to declare the laptop + the price you bought it for ?

        • Up to $900 is duty free, I was under that so I didn't bother declaring what I had and no one asked… (I claimed back the GST on a Gopro and the second hand lappy)

    is this seller reputable?

      This will give some indication

"Computer arrived late. Filthy. Scratches everywhere including on the screen. Buttons worn. Screen goes black when I try to sign in. Avoid these scammers like the plague."

see the pics attached to this review to avoid any disappointments

      • Thanks I will pass

There's also 1015 positive reviews as oppose to these 17 negatives. I am not associated with the seller but it's sad when people jump into conclusion so quickly based on a few bad comments. I'd say give the seller a chance (they might be good with 4059 product sold with 98.3% positive feedback) and see if they live upto your expectation, use paypal.

obviously i am not here to pick a fight, just an opinion.

I semi agree…. I've had better luck with this guy than other bigger "refub" sellers, and I've put a couple of friends onto him that have received good devices….

But…. His claimed "A-Grade" with 70+ battery condition is just plain dodgy, a 70% battery is a stuffed battery that needs to be replaced, so factor that into the purchase price….

          • @FLICKIT:

I agree that it's not A-Grade by any definition, but 70% doesn't mean stuffed, it means heavily worn and will need replacing likely within 6 months - if battery performance is important. If you're going to use it on AC 99% of the time you can get away with a well worn battery for ages.

I'd only call it stuffed once it start to rapidly degrade below 60%

I wouldn't replace a laptop for an employee if it was 70% if they aren't having any problems, but I also wouldn't re-issue one to a field officer with less than 80%

        Not encouraging!

    Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 620

Same as intel gen 8th igpu

    • Yeah, intels igpu's suck, they don't upgrade often and they can't encode stuff either!

  • +2

Way more positive than negative reviews in that link to eBay

  • GREAT timing … after a latitude that can charge through the USB-C port at the right price as I live off-grid and barrel jack dc-dc chargers suck way more watts out of my battery, DC cigarette lighter jacks use next to nothing …. and I just had to buy a new DC fridge which sucked up all my $!

    • What is it like living off grid? I wanna break free the gov plantation

      • HATE IT … be ok if I has $ … spent all my $ buying the property then find out the power poles are condemned and will cost mega bucks to fix, had to setup solar on the cheap, second hand panels etc then find out what does not and does last as far as the new stuff I purchased, all the F-Wits on the off-grids sites are opinionated assh*les that won't help as my situation is different to theirs and are only interested in people having what they have, so it's a mess, always saving up to replace the crap that failed as I can't afford the really good stuff, if you have the $ … sure, it's unlikely to save you much if you have a AC system and run AC equipment on batteries at night as you'll be spending mega bucks on the batteries, you'll need many more panels, more expensive components to deal with the extra panels and then the cost of replacing the batteries at the end of serviceable life and components, even the best stuff dies randomly ALL the time! you need a spare of everything.

If you invest in DC stuff and only turn on a small inverter during the day to run small appliances, it will cost a lot less, I have six very old 170w panels that charge my current batteries well, am currently setting up 9 250w Trina panels to charge lithiums that I recently got and a larger controller, the 2 systems will run in parallel as my controller brand can have up to 6 controllers in parallel (Epever) my 4 yr old Trojan flooded lead acids are so shot I have to turn my camp fridge off at night, still a few weeks before the new fridge can be shipped.

finding good quality DC stuff at an affordable price is the thing, took ages to find a quality DC fridge that was big enough and not $8k (Vitrifigo make big fridges, the one i wanted is over 8k)… luckily I asked on one of the groups if anyone knows of a company with large fridges for less than the expensive ones and a company contacted me who stand behind their stuff, those cheap fridges on ebay (Glacia brand) die at about 1.5yrs and have the condenser coils built into the side walls, which is a crap way to build a fridge.

This doesn't as fun as the make it look on Youtube off grid doco lol

          • @ekstrabraket: Those guys have the resources, I'd be happy with this if I could afford the better stuff and more of it.
