    Any bargains?

    • -4

      Check a website called www.ozbargain.com.au

    • +1

No according to another ozbargainer who said paying for NBN at all is not a bargain.

Not everyone got a school kid to subsidise their NBN.

      But for normal people, I think so. NBN100 = $89/mth * 6mths - $200 ~= $55.66/mth if you leave after 6 months.

      • why 6 months? minimum is 120 days? so 3 months minimum?

        • +4

          120 days = 4 months (I don't blame you, 120 days does look like 3 months LOL)

You can leave after 4 months no problem. Just that the big 3 got better peering so I'd rather stay as long as I can.

      • paying for NBN at all is not a bargain

Only if your getting the free government nbn

        • I'd rather the government subsidies the entire NBN other than just school kids. Make it a true public infrastructure.

          • @xmagic: Thats a rather privileged demand isnt it?

          • @xmagic: They subsidies a far far away country [Ukraine], does it count ?

    Stacks with flybuys deal

    • +2

Cashback is ineligible if combined with any third party offers from Flybuys and/or other rewards programs.

    • It did on the previous deal if you were successful in signing up before TopCashBack changed their terms and conditions.

  • Nice, I was waiting for this.
Have cancelled super loop for this

  • Can we schedule future date ?

    • +1

    • Literally just been through this with their chat.

Not on the website, delayed activation has to through chat or phone, but

Cashback is ineligible on negotiated deals via email/chat/phone. The transaction must be completely wholly online.

      so No I think.

      • Oh dear, that means the connection will be on same day ?

        • You may have a downtime if your current plan ends over a weekend.

I only experienced myself that ABB and Launtel can almost guarantee service provision within hours instead of days. But I never used big three NBN myself. Superloop, Exetel and Dodo all took days to get connected. Not even predicable days, just some random days that they threw at me.

  • Looks like Student mobile plan is also eligible for the $80 cashback?

    • Where did you see that? I couldn’t find it. The lowest offer is $39 per month byo, would be sweet to get the student discount.

    • Never mind, searched for it. Same price but with international calls and 50g more data.

  • I am currently with Optus NBN on the ultrafast plan. I am happy with the service so far.

  • actually a good deal, highest speed plan works out to be $59 each month over 4 months.

    • Now that I'm thinking, on shorter months you may have to stay for a 5th month to be eligible for the cashback (October to January is 122 days - that's only 2 days to ensure cashback and cancellation, very tight). If there's February in between, that would be exactly 120 days. No time to react.

But still good unit price for Optus NBN.

      • what defines a new customer, is that returning? I noticed when i tried to sign up it asks me to login

Will the optus nbn work with the Telstra Gen3 modem

    • +2

      Yes

      • 👍. All I had to do was disconnect modem and reconnect and its connected (same uniD port). 10 mins max from placing order. (Leaptel - Optus) Cheers -

I am interested in churning the 5G home internet but the T&C looks like a bad deal? the whole device needs to be pay out when I leave at 120 days

    Optus Plus Everyday Fast 5G

The minimum total cost of this plan is $532 if you cancel after your first month (includes $468 modem cost and $15 per month 5G Epic deal credit).

Optus will cover the cost of the modem for each month you stay connected for 36 months on a device payment plan (i.e. you’ll be credited $13 per month over 36 months, so you pay $0 for the modem). If you leave within 36 months, you’ll pay the remaining modem in full (any credits or discounts will be forfeited). You won’t receive a pro-rata refund for the remainder of your payment cycle when you cancel. There are no other plan cancellation fees.

    • +1

Yes - you are correct. Optus's "best" trick

      • haha not surprised :(

    • Yep those pricks kept charging me for a crappy modem after I cancelled my internet with them after the data leak fiasco.

      • -2

It sounds like you attempted to breach the contract so their response was fair and legal.

        • -1

Haha. Yes side with the corporate giant who leaked all of my personal details and then offered no compensation for the hassle (which continues several years later).

By the letter of my contract yes I was required to pay out the modem. Perhaps they could have been more understanding given the circumstances. I even offered to return it, and they wouldn't take it.

  • Can you select activation date for next few weeks? Will that affect the cashback?

    • your data is already on the internet.

  • +2

Great deal! If you don't mind having your data leaked.

    I wouldn't trust Optus with a 20ft barge pole.

  • +1

For the 5G plan, can you take the modem with you on holiday?

  • Optus NBN internet has been worse than expected. I have a 100/20 plan, and was just two people in my home. My previous NBN was significantly faster than the Optus. I have switched my NBN plan to More Internet immediately, even though I have 20 days left in the billing cycle.

  • So have to pay for 5 months for NBN.

  • Thanks OP. Was waiting for a new NBN deal and jumped on this one. Couldn't decide between tangerine or leaptel and figured Optus can't be any worse (maybe naively?) and this price makes it comparable. Signed up and was connected within the hour and the cash back is showing tracked.

Anyone know if it's easy to negotiate a longer term deal with them before leaving?

  • After what happened yesterday, I am gonna star away from Optus for good. Had no mobile network and nor NBN for over 8 hours in Melbourne SE yesterday. I felt so helpless. There was absolute chaos at all the hospital as all systems were down. But you don't see that anywhere on the news. Optus must have paid big bucks to all the news agencies

    • Always happens with telstra at least once yearly. Do you also boycott them

      • Well never happened to me with Telstra

        • You never watch the news. Its always nationwide when it happens

  • I was once optus customer so I'm not eligible for the cashback if I reuse my email, does anyone know if I can use email attribute to be a new customer and be eligible for the cashback (e.g. [email protected])

    • Should be. I added “.” to my email address and it asks me to create a new account.
