There's also carbon steel, which works very similar to these pans

The whole pfas forever chemicals kind of ruined Teflon when it become public

    • Look for de buyer pans on sale, theyre not wrought or as thick as these but they are high quality carbon steel and much more affordable.

Im also sad i missed this, i would of bought a couple for gifts

      • +1

Matfers are cheaper and in stock, de buyers are low in stock unless you direct import

Would've gladly supported Aussie Made Quality…. but too slow to nab the Bargain.

Deal of the year. These pans are the best thing that has happened to our kitchen. Highly recommend!!

Big call lad. These are basically cast iron for boomers. My mum would love them because she's 70.

Happy with my 5 piece lodge for $120 until im frail.

      • +4

Aussie made and owned, great family story and single piece design.
I would say that Lodge is cast iron for boomers!

They rarely have steep discounts so for 50% off and the amount of value you will get out of them over the decades, huge deal.

        • +1

Last time I checked Lodge was also a single piece design and a family history doesn't do much for my cooking.

They're a fair bit lighter which is great but they're 3mm thick as opposed to Lodge's 4mm so you're losing a bit of heat retention.

        cast iron for boomers

what do you mean by this?

        • +3

Their marketing has always been "CAST IRON IS SHIT, THESE ARE BETTER, BUY THESE!"
False claims about cast iron sucking, supposed benefits of theirs, yada yada
If you don't have cast iron/wrought/carbon steel pans, sure buy them
But if you already have cast iron in good condition and you don't have weak wrists, just stick with what you've got

Looks like Myer is clearing them out. Still, I'd definitely go in person to a store to check if there are any still available at those prices.

I just called a store. Some have it in stock, I just put a few on hold for pickup.

    • It seems next to impossible to actually speak to someone so I think you're doubly lucky!

Picked up 2 pans from a opshop recently, old ones were cheap crap cause I'm old and broke! excellent pans both, one was this brand … someone paid decent money for both, got them for $5 each, a good pan is soo worth the extra $ over a cheap, warping teflon scratching off poisonous POS! be gone!

  • omg, always wanted one. gone so quick :(

  • FYI- solidteknics wrought iron is pretty much a thin carbon steel pan

    • They're not as thin. The lightning, the thinnest is 2.5mm, whereas wrought iron pans are thinner, 1-2. Their normal range is 3mm. They seem better made et. I haven't yet found a cheaper equivalent.

    • Carbon steel is definitely thinner and much smoother

  • How is this brand Scanpan? Its also on sale and similar price.

  • Amazing thanks OP bought 2 - I have 2 of these pans that I bought full price they take a while to get the hang of but are brilliant now

FWIW, I went in store and found a few, including a 31cm size. It scanned up at full price but the lady was nice and did the 50% after I showed her the Myer website.

She said the sale was apparently an error?

  • +1

    Bugger - just got refunded…

    • Oh sh*t

  • +2

Went into store. Some stock left but not on sale. It was a price error…products on site taken down too so couldn't even get the sale staff to match online price

  • Has anyone else’s order got cancelled?

    • I just received tracking confirmation

      Mine just got delivered

  • IKEA has released a carbon frying pan range but stock seems to be low right now. The Perth store seems to have stock.

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/vardagen-frying-pan-carbon-stee…

    • It's different, it's thinner, maybe 2 mm, it's not a single piece so there are rivets for the handle. Still worth starting with that to see how it works for you.

    • One star reviews on the 24cm pan that you mentioned at ikea.
      Doesn’t inspire confidence.

      • +1

that's based on 1 review, which was posted twice.

        • +1

          Ok , fair enough.
I might have to try one out .
          My local has stock.

      • I bet the one star review is from someone who expects their unseasoned carbon steel pan to perform like a non-stick pan from day 1.

        • yerp

        • yes below review from portugal, translated

"Impractical Frying pan . It requires laborious and ineffective non-stick “treatment”."

    • Looks like a decent option. Different use cases to this pan.

  • Can anyone confirm if you can still get these

  • Order status changed to “ Ready for Packing”, looks like they’re honouring the order 😋

  • Dang mines not cancelled but not in ready for collection…

    Cmonnnnn!

  • Got a cancellation mail for this item after part of my shipment got ready.

  • Its been shipped !

  • +1

Wow the pans are so good 😍

  • Anyone have any cleaning tips? Managed to burn mine on first time use. Tried hot water and scrubbing.

    • Barkeepers friends.

    • Lol I'm still seasoning mine.. not game enough to cook yet.
It still looks too clean to cook on. I want it to change from the olive colour to black colour

    • +1

Worst case you can use steel wool then re-season. That's the beauty of these pans. I just season like a wok - paper towel to wipe on a ultra thin layer of rice oil then heat it up on the stove till it stops smoking.
