    Not again.

Can’t wait to be disappointed again tomorrow

What happened? They didn't honour the flights?

  • +5

I suspect another of their misleading and deceptive sales, similar to: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15683961/redir

My parents just flew with them and said they would never choose vietjet again. Both flights were delayed for nearly two hours. The delay was tolerable at Sydney airport, but not at Saigon airport because they pushed everyone into the waiting area at the gate and no one was allowed to bring water into that area. Waiting for over an hour without water was horrendous. Even older people and children weren't exempted.
Seats are old and extremely uncomfortable.
Staff seem to overwork and don't really care.

Waiting for over an hour without water was horrendous.

? That is the least of your problems. Vietjet doesn't give free water at all for their flights and they are much longer than 1 hour.

Wait so their flight from Melbourne to Saigon they don’t provide water? That’s insane!

        • +2

They do provide water, just not free.

      • Lot of people sit on commuter trains for that long without water provided. Or country trains (but some have water taps). I do however think they should provide it on the plane.

        • +1

Yeah, don't think anyone doing 8 hour commute one way ever.

        • -1

Lot of people sit on commuter trains for that long without water provided.

Oh what a genius you are. Did you forget about the part where airports confiscate all water and train stations do not? And commonly it is difficult or impossible to fill up an empty bottle after security.

And like the other commenter says, train trips are rarely 8 hours in duration.

          • @watwatwat: Dude, ease up and take a chill pill. I was talking about the 1hr wait bit.

Given how much cheaper Vietjet is than every other airline (from what I’ve seen), I can see that they would be cutting costs including even giving water to people. They probably use the bloody water tank to cart mail or live animals or something.

    • Getting heared into the waiting area at the gate without water is common when heading to Australia. Did it recently with Jetstar at Denpasar. Although it wasn't an hour.

    • +1

I do think you get what you pay for with Vietjet. They are an ultra-low cost airline.

A majority of their international fleet are A330's which most airlines will configure in a 2-4-2 seating arrangement (i.e. 8 seats per row). Vietjet cram on 9 seats per row in the same plane type, BUT as a result it does mean lower fares.

      • You’re on the money there. These guys are on the extreme end of budget. They move humans and that’s where the service finishes.

Terms say "up to 100%" (Clause 2)

Just checked return tax+fees to Japan is $580~ pp
Singapore Airlines had return for $100 more.

No deal. Same price with and without code here

    • After you do the search only the days showing up as green boxes have the discount if you choose a regular day without the green background there is no discount and there's the regular price

  • Haha, no where to be seen for discount code entering

    • You type it in when you do the search

  • No thank you. I rather fly Jetstar

  • I have no clue on how to find these supposed fares, I've tried a few searches with the promo code within the travel period.

Beware, you've been warned: Been thru this and was literally haggled. I took this offer last year, listed on Vietjet's website:

In a special promotion, when booking Eco & Deluxe tickets from May 15-31, 2023, one passenger will receive an additional 2kg of carry-on baggage for free, bringing the total to 9 kg.

Conveniently, I packed 8.9 Kg in my Carry-On Baggage and was connecting at Vietnam to another Vietjet flight to my destination. At Vietnam, while boarding their second flight, the airport / gate crew told me my Carry-On baggage is overweight (since more than 7Kg) and I have to pay $$ or else I will be denied boarding!

    • I had a printout of my ticket, which clearly stated 7Kg+2Kg Carry-On baggage
    • I had a printout of the offer mentioned in the link above.
    • My ticket purchase date fell between May 15-31, 2023 and was a 'Eco' class ticket which is included in this offer.
    • I had satisfied all criteria to be eligible for the additional 2Kg baggage.

Yet, the crew refused to budge. Also, they took multiple photos of my boarding passes and sent them to 'each other' via WhatsApp Chat (!!!) and the crew kept telling me "In the system it is showing as 7Kg, so you have to pay up $$". I stayed calm, did not argue with them and I just said 'Okay!', just as I was proceeding to throw off a few things (and all the rest had boarded), the crew told me - they confirmed it is 9Kg (after making me wait about 25 minutes) and they let me board.

On my return journey, I observed this - the airport crew often randomly chooses non-locals and makes them weigh their bags and then haggles them to pay up $$. They do not bother their locals, but I have seen they doing this to many Australians. Sorry to say so, but I clearly observed this happening.
