    • that's like the used price now on ebay so if you sold it you would get all your money back :D

      Make Hard Drives Cheap Again

  • Is this ok for a gaming pc?

    • yes, one of the best HMB drives you can get. Although i'm not sure about that price, i've seen it hover closer to $300

A Lexar sales rep posted on here previously when the NM790 was being sold for its historical lowest ever price, and had mentioned that (in the context of then-current/yet ongoing market manipulation by certain manufacturers to drive up the price of flash NAND by cutting their production volumes) everyone who needed an SSD should take advantage of that particular Mwave deal- warning the costs were about to skyrocket.

That rep also said that they didn't know how Mwave was selling it for so little; though I can't quite recall the specifics, but the impression I got was that Mwave was either taking a razor-thin margin on each unit over the wholesale price, or that they may have been treating it as a loss-lead for that quarter.

But tl;dr - I wouldn't expect to see that price ever again, unless someone makes a move to break up Samsung/SK Hynix's cartel shenanigans.
Right now though I think this deal is currently the best option for value in terms of GiB/$ if you have to exclude QLC drives like the P3 Plus for your workflow/use-case.

That was back in October last year. It was $240 at it's lowest I think, or $255 with a chocolate bar made by the Geneva Convention Breaker Man. I personally got it for $255 without the chocolate bar :(

the $300 price was seen back in August for the heatsink model: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853749

And I was told to stop using dirty little scare tactics, and those experts also told me they know price will keep drop throughout 2024 because they saw some posts on internet.

          Sigh

I purchased the 2TB version for $120 appr at that time. Can't believe the price went crazy afterwards.

note that this was when NAND had an oversupply, and so SSD prices were plummeting. NAND producers have since fixed the issue, and I doubt they'll make the same mistake again anytime soon. If you're waiting for prices to go back down to where they were, you're gonna be waiting for a very long time.

  • This post bring tears to my eyes.

Any indication if we will be getting some better pricing at the end of the year by some miracle?

TLDR, I might run small batch promo here and there, just to show we care about you guys too.
But don't expect it's gonna be something crazy.

        Longer version:

My 4tb stock was prepared in 2023 Nov because I know price is going up.
So I asked my distie to buy a ridiculous amount of stock. They did.

To consumers, there are always Lexar NM790 4tb at low price (compare to most local competitors), but to me, from brands perspective,
I haven't sold a any new 4tb NM790 since last year, despite my 4tb is doing amazing in retail.
My current cost is higher than Australia retail.

But there is also a downside to this, since 4tb is always this 300 dollar ish.
I asked few user in Pax and few other events, I asked them what do they think is a good price on 8tb, they told me they will buy a 8tb if it's around 700 bucks.
Originally I was going to run some deals on 8tb NM790, but because of the low market expectation, I give up on that idea, I can't get close.

So in Q4, my focus on the components side shift towards System building, support builders with good price on ram and SSDs.
        for DIYers.
I was going to do 8tb deals, now I am thinking maybe run some gen 5 deals.

However after seeing this post, I might do small batch 4tb just to show OZbargainers I am reading your comments.
People don't believe we actually lose money running those promos.
But tbh, we do, we lose lots of money on promos.
We do it to make distie happy, make retailers happy, but most importantly, to make you guys happy.
but since I didn't sell many 4tb this year (to disties), I can't run big bucks on it and drive price to a silly number while providing large quantities.
So I will be some appreciation discount and you will see retailers sold out on that price and change price back very quickly.
Watch out for our black friday deals :D

        • Hi,

I’m in the market for one of these SSDs but wondering if it’s worth waiting. Do you think the price would be much better than current 355? Thank you!

          • +2

@chibabs: it won't be much better, but I will defiantely participate in those black friday deals for sure

            • @Lexar ANZ Chris: Hey mate, I really need one of these drives today… if you run any promos will it be with Mwave? I plan to claim price protection on my card so not asking for the deal NOW, just want to know where the deal will be :)

              • @khell: hi Khell:

I don't know yet, haven't really get into details on that yet.

                • @Lexar ANZ Chris: I've subscribed to your posts, so hopefully I don't miss the BF deal.
Can you please also recommend an external enclosure for these drives? I intend to use one for backup/ storage.

                  Thanks.

                  • @Kris P: I'll keep you posted, most of time people will tell you it's waste of performance to put it in a enclosure.

But we have something coming out later this year or early next year, it's a very fast NVME enclosure, once i have more details I will let you know.

                  • @Kris P: And don't subscribe to me, I suppose to work behind the curtain, but I am also a long time Ozbargain user.

That's why I come here to talk smack against trolls

  • BTW, heatsink version is $10 more at $365 also at Mwave.
