Telstra $35 Prepaid Kit for $12 (Limit 2 Per Customer, Use on Casual 6 Months Expiry Plan) @ Telstra

930

Good for low usage, long expiry users.
I like how there are included minutes, texts and data, rather than an 'as you go' plan, eg Amaysim $10, 365 days, where you pay per minute/text/MB.

Pre-Paid Mobile $35
6 months expiry
Click on 'Casual Plan' on the Link to see.

Inclusions:
350MB data
95 call minutes to standard Australian numbers
120 texts (SMS/MMS) to standard Australian numbers
Capped 4G and 5G speeds. Download speeds are capped at 150mbps on our 4G and 5G network. Great for most customers’ regular usage including streaming, browsing and social media.
Some very limited international calls and texts as well!

350mb? Thats like viewing the McDonalds website 7 times.

    • 😂

    • +3

I still use it for I my galaxy watch. Agree with you on limited data

      • Can this be used in Apple Watch ..?

        • Nope, just android watches work work around. The day I find work around for apple, I will switch to apple eco system

          • @hopper: Does it need to be connected to a phone, like could you give your kid (that doesn't own a phone but has a Samsung wifi tablet) a Samsung Watch with an eSIM to use to make calls?

            • +1

@munted: It needs phone for initial pairing, tablet might work. It's works as a standalone phone but battery will drain faster if you use lte a lot instead of WiFi or Bluetooth. Try getting watches with bigger battery.

          • @hopper: I wouldn’t spend $ on a product because it has a workaround for something that its not😆

      • How did u managed to add this to galaxy watch, keen to know, tnx

    • +6

This plan was specifically designed to stop Aussies ordering from Maccas and get healthy. Telstra are the good guy.

    • Shrinkflation in data now, what on earth is happening…

  • $45 one for $15. you can add it into your deal if u want

    • +1

But thats a 28 day expiry plan. this one is 6 months. Good for visiting friends and family

      • I am pretty sure it can also be activated as long expiry plan…but correct me if I am wrong

        • +2

          Yes you can

          • @celery juice: hello, hope you could help.
how do you activate it as long expiry plan.. as in get the 30GB but longer than 28 days expiry?

            • +4

@squidz: If I remember correctly, the $35 (for $12) and $45 (for $15) sim starter kits are just 'credit' and after you receive the sim and go to the Telstra activation website then you can choose to spend that 'credit' to activate any one of their plans, and then the remaining 'credit' will be stored on your account for that sim card.

              Example:

              1. Buy $45 sim starter kit for $15
              2. Receive kit in mail.
              3. Activate sim on Telstra website
              4. Choose to spend $35 of your credit to activate the " Pre-Paid Casual Plans - 350MB - 6 Month Expiry"
              5. Plan gets activated and you have $10 credit left on your sim card
              6. Enjoy using plan for 6 months.
              7. You can use the remaining $10 credit to partially pay to renew this plan at full price $39 from 22 October, or use it towards a different Telstra plan or Topup option

*Caution: If you port out you will lose any remaining credit.

So if you plan to immediately port out after 6 months and can't find anything to spend that extra $10 credit on, than you might as well just buy the cheaper $35 (for $12) and save yourself spending $3 for extra credit you won't use.

P.S. I don't have a Telstra account so I cannot check if they will let you buy a data top-up for your 6-month 350MB plan.
IF they did, then that would be useful and maybe increase your total data up to 550MB or something.
Have to wait for someone else answer to that one though.

              • +5

@Noob Noob: When you activate a prepaid sim kit you’ll only have the option of activating it with the value of the kit itself. There’s no option to activate it with a lesser value and have credit left over.

To answer your 2nd question, yes you can top up a casual plan with extra data.

                • @celery juice: Does that mean we can activate it with $45 and get 6 month expiry? Or we can activate with $35 and get $10 credit ?

                  • +3

@Sirajs: If you purchase the $45 kit then you’ll only have the option to activate as a $45 prepaid (for casual it’s 6 months, 550mb data and a little under 2 hrs calling)

                • @celery juice: How much does it cost to top up a casual plan with extra data?

                  • @EarlyBird: $5 for 1gb, 7 days expiry
                    $20 for 4GBs, 28 days expiry

            • +2

@squidz: The long expiry plan will be a ‘prepaid casual’ thus you wont get the 30GB data, but the 350mb instead.

          • +1

@celery juice: Is there an expiry date on these? I.e. I want to buy one, but not activate it until about 6 months time.

            • +1

@mandelbrot: Yes, they’ll be printed on the back of the sim kit.

          • @celery juice: I don't understand, the link says it comes with 60GB, but the thread here says 350MB. I doesn't seem to make sense?

            • @Wardaddy: The 60gb is your standard prepaid mobile. The 350mb is prepaid casual. Prepaid Casual is a long expiry option with little inclusions, suitable for people who don't use the phone a whole lot or are using wifi a majority of the time.

Telstra's both SKs hit the bottom price with high bonus data coz the base prices are due to increase. It tries to hook more customers before then. It is just corporate dodgy practice for those unknowns.

  • +2

Purchase it via Telstra Rewards store for 120 points or redeem points for it.

    • +2

      Its 4200 points not 120 ..?

      • +2

Pay $12 and earn 120 pts, or use 4200 pts in your account instead of pay $12.

        • Ok gotcha

        • Is it online? And instore?

      • 4200 pts..is that good?

      • Gahh…its now 16 900 pts and only have a $39 sim…

Any idea what the bottom price is for the Belong sims (in points)

    • Thanks. Used points to purchase this.

    • Pretty sure the one on rewards store isn't the casual plan, so only lasts 28 days

  • +1

    wth

    • +1

It can be used as $12 for 60GB, only second to Boost atm, beats Optus/Vodafone $35 and amaysim/Kogan equivalent plans. I have explained above why Telstra is more generous than its competitors.

      • How do I purchase this plan using 4200 Telstra Rewards ? Having a look in my Telstra app, but cant find it….

        • Telstra App Home has a Rewards option.

  • +1

If you’re using so little and want Telstra network, ALDImobile’s $15/year might be a bit better value

    • +1

The website seems to say that this plan is no longer available for purchase online. Are there other ways to get it (vouchers etc)?

      • +2

You can top up an existing service with it! If you purchase the SIM card (costs $5) you’ll have $5 of value already on it. Then can recharge with $15 which is 365 days.

    • +2

Telstra retail coverage is different to Aldi wholesale coverage

      • True! However if you are not in an area with poor Telstra coverage (e.g. remote area with limited frequencies in use), needing >100Mbps data rates (shouldn’t on $15 a year I guess) then no prob

  • +1

Ordered using 4200 points through rewards store but no ESIM option in rewards store it will be physical sim.

    • +1

      Physical SIM only? No deal.

      • Is there anyway to transfer to esim afterwards

        • +1

Yes, Esim can be done after activation through the app or in a shop

  • can you move a post-plan telstra number to this?

    • yes. Requires you to be instore to be able to swap this one over. I would recommend purchasing prior to coming to store, as I believe this is online only.

      • That's unnecessary extra effort. Also cant ship to a PO Box I saw…I am rennovating right now and have no front mailbox. A rather easy pass in the end…

      • Or port out to another carrier, and port back in, and avoid an infuriating trip to a store.

  • Can this be used to keep a Telstra ID active?

    • +1

      Yes

  • +4

Telstra is kidding Aus public along with Qantas and Aus Post

    • +2

Yes, it is time to crack down on Telcos' pricings now. How come the $30 SK increases to $39(from 22 Oct) in 15 mths?

      • Because Telstra is bleeding the public dry by trading on its name, and it’s otherwise using its cheaper MVNOs to capture those that do their research.

Unless you really need One Number for your Apple Watch, or absolutely cannot buy your handsets outright, there’s really no reason to be on a Telstra plan anymore (since they squashed handset subsidies), and you’d be better off with an MVNO.

This deal is a good one but it’ll trap people into it on renewals with high usage rates if they’re not careful. The typical Telstra way.

  • Is this a suitable style sim to go for as a second number for occasional use when placing ads on gumtree/marketplace via an iPhone 15 Pro Max ?

  • Can we price beat in officeworks and use that sim to activate for 6 months plan? Or is it specific to Telstra store sim only ? Anyone able to do that before?

  • Any easy way to use this to top up an existing 6-month casual plan without porting out, then back in again?

    • unfortunately not.

  • +1

Sign up for a 50GB plan for $65/month (no lock-in contract) and you can get 40,000 Telstra rewards points, which can be used to buy 9 Telstra $35 Prepaid Kits.

  • +1

Got this. Seems like a great fit for keeping my number active and using VoWIFI overseas for 'free' roaming for $12 for up to 9 months. (Number stays active for up to 3 months after credit expiry)

  • Did anybody receive the touted free Telstra phone for the 3g/4g cutover?

    • The free phone is a telstra flip 4 or telstra t- lite. Very basic, generic phones around the $50-75 price range. I personally think whatever phone you source yourself will probably be better….

  • +1

When do you to activate the sim by?
Won’t need one the kids to use until next year when they starting high school, to use for emergencies calls

    • +1

Also curious on expiry @RandoUser @celery juice - do you guys happen to know?

      • +2

The exact expiry dates will be printed on the kits themselves, but I’d wager they’ll expire sometime in 2025.

      • +2

most likely october - december 2025, given that new prepaid pricing will come out soon.

        • Re: “ plan at full price $39 from 22 October” so if I purchase the $35 sim and activated next year, I don’t have to pay the $4 difference right?

          • +1

            @Datatemp: yes that is correct.

            • @RandoUser: Thanks, bought 2

            • @RandoUser: except $39 price, any changes from 22 October?

              • @amorn: no changes for regular prepaid mobile, but increase calls and data for the prepaid casual

                • @RandoUser: Thanks. Would activating on 22 Oct be in time for the increase? I am holding out to activate for the increased data.

                  • @amorn: most likely the old kits will have the same benefits as before. In other words you most likely wont get more data

  • Any data only, long expiry sim for iPad suggestions? It needs to be using Telstra network as the warehouse I’m working at has extreme poor Optus and Vodafone receptions. I do see reception bars but the speed is as slow as 2G.

I don’t need a lot of data but I would prefer to have at least 20GB and no the warehouse does not have wifi :(

    • belong 20gb data for $15/month.

      • Thanks I’m looking for about 20GB for a year, the iPad is mainly for work, spreadsheets etc

  • Used to have a Telstra $5/month/5GB data sim in 2021… shaped to 1.5mbps which was still okay for doing a few light things. Assuming the answer is no, would this offer offer throttled data after the 350MB has been used up? Anyone know of any good providers that offer a low monthly but unlimited 1.5mbps. Worked well for a remote device that didn't need much is why I am asking.

  • I bought the $12 Telstra physical SIM. I used the Telstra website Casual User option.

The website claims that after I install the SIM, I can use their number or port another number.

I envisage two possible uses for this SIM:

    1. Reclaim my old number that TPG was unable to reconnect (I received $200 compensation for this after the TIO intervened).

    2. Install it in my old Nokia to use a Samsung Tile to find my motorcycle, if stolen. (I cannot use Apple Air Tag as the IOS on my iPhone 6 is too old).

  • +1

Can we port from Boost into this?

  • Dealers offer that need a new number every 3 weeks

  • Telsta has a limit of 2 SIMs per customer.

Indian call centres use huge numbers of Australian mobile numbers and land line numbers as the apparent source of their calls.
