As an avid audiophile and having tried most streaming platforms, I've concluded that Qobuz offers the best service.

To give an idea - After an AI query of 'what separates Qobuz from other streaming platforms', the result yielded the following:

Qobuz vs Other Streaming

Based on the provided search results, here are the key features that separate Qobuz from other streaming platforms:

Downloadable high-quality music: Unlike many other streaming services, Qobuz allows users to download high-quality music from its catalog, both for subscribers and non-subscribers. This feature provides users with offline access to their music library.

Qobuz Store: The platform offers a dedicated store where users can purchase and download specific albums directly from the website, without requiring a subscription.

Qobuz Duo: A unique subscription option that allows two separate users to share a subscription, making it a cost-effective choice for partners or roommates.
Offline play: Qobuz enables offline playback, allowing users to listen to their music without an internet connection.

Personalized recommendations: The platform provides users with personalized music recommendations, enhancing their listening experience.

Hardware integration: Qobuz has partnered with various audio equipment manufacturers to integrate its app into their products, enabling users to stream music directly to their Hi-Fi systems. This integration offers a seamless listening experience.

AirPlay 2 and Chromecast compatibility: Qobuz apps are compatible with devices supporting AirPlay 2 and Chromecast, allowing users to stream music to multiple devices simultaneously.

Linear operation: The Qobuz app operates linearly, ensuring uninterrupted playback and controlling volume, making it suitable for use with Hi-Fi equipment.

These features distinguish Qobuz from other streaming platforms, offering users a unique combination of high-quality music, flexibility, and integration with Hi-Fi systems.

  • Can’t beat TIDAL ?

    • I have used Tidal. Out of interest, what do you prefer about Tidal? Have you used Qobuz?

      • +3

I prefer tidal because a family plan is cheaper than this student plan

        • +2

I prefer that Qobuz has better quality and integration with higher end speakers as well as having a more extensive selection of genres such as classical and jazz.

At the end of the day, each have benefits for particular listeners and it comes down to personal preference.

I also prefer the metadata and tagging, as well as the UI in Qobuz.

          • @Barry off EastEnders: I prefer the Tidal library and interface and radiomode (algorithm) is great.

The prices are better in some countries (<$10/month for family hi-fi plus).

Apparently there is no qubuz connect still (using volumio) but apparently coming one day.

Perhaps qubuz has been improved in the last year or two, don't see the point of playing over 96-192 kHZ, buffering can be annoying. Probably worth testing again sometime.

If your audio gear allows for it, the higher sampling rate from qobuz tends to sound better than tidal. However, I find tidal's music recommendation function better than qobuz as well as randomisation of music playback.

      • The sampling rate of Tidal seems to be the same as Qobuz (up to 24bit/192khz flac), I compared several songs and found they have got the same quality on both services.

        • Yeah even at the same bitrate/depth, I had found qobuz sounding better on my gear. This was via Android phone usb c out to a discrete dac and amp and headphones. Otherwise I really wanted to stick it out with tidal as it worked out cheaper and was easier to navigate the type of music I like. If it sounds the same to you, that's a good thing, tidal's pretty good and both services sounds better than Spotify/YouTube music/Amazon Unlimited. Of course, subjective listening here, not objective measurements.

    • Qobuz supports Android Auto
      also better sound quality

    (max 25 years-old)

Screw people going back to school to further their education am I right?

    • How dare they try and better their lives.

      • Ha! Agreed. I will have a chat to their customer service and see if there is a way around then post the results here.

    • I had no problem just changing the year

      • Unfortunately, they still require some form of ID or proof of study.

Did you find a way around this and successfully register a student account?

        • I didn't need to prove my age, other than setting the year to 2001. But I work at a university and tried my work's edu address as proof, which was fine. So it may be different for students.

        • I won't give the method for obvious reasons, but I can do it for you if you want (for free of course)

  • Quality aside (which is sufficient for me), Turkey Spotify pricing is still cheaper for 2 person sub - $3.55 p/month ($1.77 p/person). Normal pricing, not student so probably more cost savings to be had (I maxed out the number of years you could have student status)

That's understandable. Spotify includes podcasts, a social media presence and is the mixing/compression ideal for listening on ear buds and lower end desktop speakers and can't be beat for value. Services such as Tidal, Qobuz and even Apple Music (with their recent addition of higher quality music) is geared towards higher-end speakers but there is a premium involved. Point is - these various streaming services each have their benefits.

At the end of the day, there's no point spending more on things that won't be made use of.

    • Totally different use cases I reckon. Spotify is more casual and most people wouldn't care about ads or pay for premium.

Is it still capped at mp3 quality (320kbps), or will Spotify hi-fi actually be a thing finally one day?

  • +2

Definitely prefer Qobuz over Tidal if you have the gear and the ears. Their editorial is great too, have been introduced to so many great artists. I find other services tend to just mirror each other with the same stuff where Qobuz is something uniquely different.

I am not 100% convinced that qobuz sounds better than Tidal now after Tidal ditched MQA and use flac instead for the highest quality option. Well they may still have some tracks using MQA and they don't even tell you which is which, but for longer term I guess they should eventually all go to flac.

Amazon audio HD is also quite good, I did find it sound better than Tidal master quality when I was trying.

If there is no obvious better quality on good gear when compared to Tidal master quality, I would say 7.99 is still a bit too expensive, given those cheap overseas subscription options with tidal.

  • For info, it does actually work with other cheaper countries.

Had no problem to get the student plan in Chile for 1.999,99 CLP / month (around 3.20 AUD)

    Paid with Revolut
