get a battery adapter and use power tool batteries.. works great for us
wait, this is a thing?
Yes! https://www.catch.com.au/product/dyson-v8-battery-adapter-to…
(but cheaper elsewhere)
@kingsville: Bought One Ozito (Einhell) to V7 V8 for about $16 on AliExpress a few months ago.
@jimojr: Woah so how do you charge? Like normal?
@Jigram: Use an Ozito charger to charge the battery.
@jimojr: So Ozito is Einhell did not know that, how you know?
@neonlight: I saw a comment many years ago, just like you are seeing mine today.
@neonlight: Finkle is Einhorn, Einhorn is Finkle
@jimojr: Would a 36V battery work? I have Ryobi 36V and AEG 58V battery options.
@virhlpool: nop only 18v
@jimojr: I've never had a decent stick vacuum before, only tried the cheap ones which always ended up being crap.
I'm a little confused how this works. So is your link is for a battery adapter to use a different battery with the V7 or V8 version vacuums? If so, what type of battery do you need, and do you need to buy a charger too for the battery that you'd use in this adapter? How much do the batteries typically cost?
Thanks for the heads up , V8 is due for another battery replacement but ive got a drawer full of 18v ryobi batteries. New battery and short runtime (on high) solved all in one.
Watch out on high, my 7 cuts out due to heat and won’t let you use high for a good while.
@athk: Time for a deep clean
@Richardc: 5ah 18v battery lasts a very long time… the over heating is just due to time used.
Yep that's what I did. Had a bunch of Ozito batteries. Bought an adapter and then sold the original Dyson battery and charger. I use the standard flow and one 4ah covers my whole 6 BR house.
We must have very different Dyson V8s - 10 minutes? Maybe on "max", but… I need that so rarely, maybe only on very thick, very soiled carpet.
The V8 is what changed my mind about stick vacs, and I've had this one 5 years. Dyson sent me a replacement battery pack when I told them mine was unable to hold voltage earlier this year.
I’ve had mine for 5 years as well with no issue. Use it everyday and still sucks up all my cats hair.
Definitely a different experience with a v7. I have floorboards and do most of a 4x2 house on low with a single charge and it picks up pretty much everything. The only exception being "chunks" of stuff, but the trade off having something super easy to use is definitely worth it.
Stick vacuums are a bit worse on carpet however - need high power for it to be effective enough, and then the battery life is pretty awful. Would use a corded vacuum in a mostly carpet house.
Feels. I own two of the c&#@$ and every time i use them i die a little. I had to replace the battery on one, because it's smart enough to know when the battery life is at 70% - so just disable it to force replacement.
2 weeks later the other one decided the battery has expired. Absolute garbage. Sure, it works, but the cheap black and decker one at work works even better and it was like $99.
Dyson is more fashionable than practical.
If you read the Dyson manuals, they say DO NOT use for flour, baby powder, ash, gyprock, or other similar materials / dusts. So even there, they're useless.
ordered thanks OP, not the cheapest but my last one broke just yesterday.
I remember struggling to get v7 down to $300 a year or so back so this is a good deal.
Is this much different to the V8 Absolute?
It Absolutely is
Which is better?
buy 10 now ask questions later.
And will my dirty carpets find absolution through it?
Absolute has an extra floor head (fluffy for hard floors) and HEPA filter. https://www.dyson.com.au/products/vacuum-cleaners/stick-vacu…
My old V6 needs a replacement, is this V8 worth the upgrade or should I wait for something better?
Same boat, but can’t see myself paying more than $300 for a v8 as the v10 has been down to $500.. Black Friday is coming up so might get lucky
You might just need a new battery. BTW their old models had batteries that came out by pressing a button so you could be charging one while using the other. I suspect they stopped that to sell more units.
Battery is still decent just that the head is worn out and other things like connections seem to need a good push etc
Filter needs replacement too
We have 2 x V6 and bought a V8 recently and they are so much better.
I’m sure the even later ones are that much better still but the V8 at thi price is excellent value.
dont, get the battery adapater, getting v8 is the same as v6 internally anyway.
the battery is the only bad thing about them.
I used my friend's V6, and thought they were awful.
V8 was great, and the one I got had a HEPA filter which makes a huge, massive difference to amounts of dust in the house.
You've gotta make sure you clean both filters on the machine though, or the things gets filled with dust internally.
I've taken the thing apart a few times and brushed all the inside dust away.

Any got the same issue?
Edit: used an old bigw account, seems to work now
Is this the last of the V8s?
Of those that are naturally aspirated I fear so my friend
Awesome, thanks OP.
$341.15 delivered, 400 reward points.
How did you make it to $341?
359.10x0.95
Is this any good with a misso that has a lot long hair falling on the floor all the time?
I have Ryobi batteries. Which battery adapter should I choose
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006500437172.html that link should have almost all adapter options
bugged, code wont work if not signed in or card not linked….but im signed in / linked
I had the same issue - just unlink and re-link. It'll fix it.
did the makita conversion, my v6 is full power again and way way better. until dyson has swap battery, it is really really not worth it, those 1k$+ are just beyond jokes.
Sh!t, be careful with these DIY battery home mods. That's how you end up on the news while they film your house on fire. If you use the wrong type of batteries (too much power) it can explode.
It's a $20 adapter you buy on ebay/amazon which plugs in like a Dyson battery, then you slide the Makita batteries in.
And we're using 18V batteries on the 21V Dyson so it's not going to be too much power.
Personally I trust Makita batteries more than Dyson anyway.
Just BTW, there are plenty of adapters for power tool batteries to run kids' ride-ons as well. Eg Power Wheels running 18v Ozito batteries. The vehicles run longer too (and 1/3 faster with no problems). The adapters come with their own fuse and on/off switch, the real deal.
Two years ago paid $569 for this v8… That was via ebay Dyson store with discount code….
Feels a bit ripped off honestly when it's really worth $350
V8 origin or v8 plus? What’s the difference LOL
The Dyson V8 Origin and Dyson V8 Plus are both part of Dyson's V8 cordless vacuum series, but they differ slightly in their features and accessories.
Dyson V8 Origin:
Standard Features: It includes the same powerful suction and motor as the V8 series.
Accessories: The Dyson V8 Origin typically comes with fewer accessories, which may include just a basic set like the motorized cleaner head, a crevice tool, and a combination tool.
Use Case: Great for standard cleaning tasks but may lack more specialized tools.
Dyson V8 Plus:
Standard Features: Same suction power and performance as the V8 Origin.
Accessories: The V8 Plus generally comes with more accessories, such as a mini motorized tool (for upholstery or pet hair), soft dusting brush, and other attachments that enhance versatility for different surfaces and tasks.
Use Case: Better for households with pets or those who need more specialized cleaning tools.
Summary:
V8 Origin: Ideal if you want a basic cordless vacuum without extra accessories.
V8 Plus: Offers more versatility with additional tools, making it a better choice if you need more flexibility or have specific cleaning needs (like pet hair or delicate surfaces).
The performance is similar between the two, but the choice really depends on whether you want or need the extra accessories that come with the V8 Plus.
Shark Cordless Vacuum with Self Cleaning Brushroll IZ102 is $299 at Harris Scarfe:

Able to price match with Good Guys.
do the V6 and V8 have the same battery?
I've had a Dyson and a Dreame. The Dreame is so much better.
Our Dreame is rubbish. I can't check which model I have right now but it was around $325 a couple of years ago (ozb deal). The rotating foot died, suction is meh, and run time is VERY short, only seconds on max (even after filter clean).
Maybe you have a better model than mine (or the Dyson model you are comparing to is terrible).
Having said that, I'm all ears on credible, cost effective alternatives to a Dyson.
That's a shame!
We have the Dreame V12. I can use this thing for 40+ minutes without the battery dying. I have had it for about two years now.
I am comparing to a Dyson V7. Not nearly as good.
yep I did the same and it was garbage. sworn off dreame now. Their post-sales support was abysmal too.
anyone have experience with the Ryobi 18v vacuums compared to this dyson v8? ive got heaps of ryobi batteries. All i need a very powerful active brush carpet vac to remove border collie hair on a daily basis in the whole house capets
ANY V6'S ?
"Sign in or Link Rewards Card to use code"
Done both of those and stil no workie…
Is there any special trick to get this working..?
Looks like I had to unlink my rewards card, and re-add it..
Technology… :rolleyes;
Kinda tempted to return my LG Cordzero thats on back order and get this instead. Can't seem to find any battery adapters for LG
Better to wait till the warranty is out before putting a battery adaptor on to use my makita/ozito batteries?
No need, you can swap back, it's 3 screws just like you'd do with a new Dyson battery.
Yes,wouldn't an after market battery void the warranty?
So keep the old battery and swap it back if you have to send it in
Went into BigW today to pick up what appeared to be a brand new unit. Got home, opened it up and noticed some dust and hair stuck to the inside of the canister. Went back to store and got it exchanged. This time I got the manager to open up a brand new box in front of me and this unit was even worse. Bits of plastic wrapping and greyish powder stuck to the bottom of the dust canister lid. Wish I took a photo. He was very surprised and tried to assure me that both boxes weren't returned units and were brand new. Offered me a full refund which I agreed to.
Got me thinking now, could this just be QC testing from the factory that they haven't bothered to clean afterwards? Never owned a Dyson before so keen to know other peoples experiences.
Can you let me know what was in the box please? Crevice tools? Combo tool? Wall charger? Anything else?
The Origin is the base model, so you get the absolute bare minimum. Received the vacuum, charger, wall mount docking station (don't have to use it to charge the vac), extension wand, motorised cleaner head, combination tool and a shit tonne of cardboard. Felt like more effort was put into the design of the cardboard packaging than the actual product XD
On another note, the third brand new unit that I got from another BigW store was the same as the first 2. It seems that this is Dyson quality control these days.
Maybe testing of units?
Sadly No crevice tool in this model so I'm gonna get it from AliExpress.
Or Amazon.
How did you get $359.10. Mine is showing $399 and the code doesn't work. Have I missed something?
You need to link your everyday rewards card I believe
Aldi $119. Wait for the catalogue to come out.
Can you elaborate please?
I've been researching for the last 24 hours and have settled on the V11 for whatever reason. I'm still not sure if I can justify $700 for a vacuum.. 😅 But it looks much stronger than the V8. But if I can get an Adli-backed item for $120 that does similarly..
Has anyone got this? It is ALWAYS so confusing with Dyson as to what is included?
Wondering if this is better value - https://www.amazon.com.au/Dyson-V8-Cordless-Stick-Vacuum/dp/…
Crevice tool, Hair Screw Tool and dock is included.
They not the same ?
Nope. Amazon one has crevice tool and hair care tool and definitely a dock.
$344 here
I'm worried every store nearby had only 1 stock.. So let's hope SOH are correct
$344 here
How?
Team benefit and their's offer spend $125 on eligible products save $15
Happy saving
Why get this over a robot vacuum?
I guess to do spot cleans… but even $300 seems a lot to use once a fortnight or even less?
I do like dyson (did own one, but now have tile floors).
I prefer the cheaper sticks. Had a V8.. became crap after a year. Bought a $199 job of Amazon havent looked back. Its actually disgusting how similar a job the cheap one does for 20% of the price. We are paying for their adverts. This is OZBARGAIN not vanity fair.
Any recommendations on the Amazon one?

Big W cancelled my order and increased the price back to $699. Beasts.
I am unlucky enough to have a Dyson V8 - and unfortunately only now do I know that Dyson stick vacuums are a ripoff at anything more than about $300, which is what they're reasonably worth. Unless maybe all you need to vacuum is some flour off a tabletop or some similar easy and very brief task, because like all stick vacuums they are piss weak and run for about 10 mins.
