  • Interesting will need to research a bit about it

I would recommend if you are in the market to look at AV2000 vs. the AV1000 in this deal as real worlds speed fall short of the rated number.

Also I find units with a pass through outlet (so you can still use the powerpoint) are far more convenient.

The tplink AV2000 with pass through would be my pick if you really needed a power line solution.

had nothing but trouble with my powerline adapter. id rather use a tethered 3G connection than one of these again. ymmv

    • +1

      Completely opposite for me.

Have had a TPlink one for years (router is also TP LINK) and works a treat.
      So good

      • +3

guess it depends on your circuits

        • +3

Completely relies on being on the same circuit on a newer power system. My own house = no connection between circuits.
Older houses are far easier and just plug in and off you go.
          Source: my own experiences.

        • +1

          totally, it depends on:

how far (in terms of electric wires inside your wall) is it between your 2 power outlet

how noisy is your circuit… like high power devices including refrigerators, microwaves, and aircons. Motor equipped devices (washing machine, dryer, hair dryer)… and cheap switching power supply, LED lights, dimmer lights… and more

        • I got some years ago for free and they were terrible in my 70 year old house . Gave them to a mate and they worked like a dream from his shed to his far newer house .

    • +1

do not use power boards, plug straight to wall, check if both adapter are in the same circuit. fail to do any of them the exprience will be very very bad.

been using a 20$ TPlink for the past 10 years in 5 different houses, after finding out the circuit wiring, 0 issue and consistent, also no microwave/heavy wattage appliance in it either.

you do not need to buy the pass through version since you can just buy this kinda cables

      • Main issue is random disconnects which forces me to unplug both devices and wait for them to pair again. Useless. This is both in an apartment and a house with new wiring. Wi-fi is much better these days

        • +1

true, other than competitive gaming, i really dont see the needs for wired connection anymore, wifi are so good nowadays.

  • I am using this, was considering to buy stuff from facebook market place, but thought I give it a go.

    Home NBN plan 100/40
Wifi adapter gives me speed of 10mb/s.
this Tenda powerline adapter gives me speed of 8mb/s, but it's a lot more stable. slower than wifi, never had issues for streaming, gaming.

Slower, but usable and fast enough speed, and stable.

Hmm, 10mb/s - is it megabits or megabytes?
10MB/s is fair for 100Mb/s plan, while 10Mb/s obviously sucks and I believe you actually meant MB.

    • That sounds terrible, bought used foxtel adaptors on eBay $40 for 4 with cables all paired. Works a treat in a big double story house.

Modem is on the first floor in the room near the front door. Adaptor is on second floor at the back. I have an Ethernet cable plugged from the adaptor to router. I'm getting 65-70mb download.

      I'm on 100/40 connection

  • is it really AU plug though? AU version but from Tenda JP?

For anyone who is interested, you can never reach anywhere near the advertised 1000 Mbps with these adapters. At best, you can achieve 100–250 Mbps over a very short distance on the same circuit. However, across different circuits or over a longer distance, you are unlikely to see speeds above 50 Mbps, there is also a chance they may not work reliably, or at all.. A WiFi mesh system will be significantly faster than these in a home with timber-framed internal walls. These adapters are only useful if you have thick brick walls, want to provide internet to an external metal shed, or to connect a low-bandwidth wired device like a home alarm system.

This is true. These adapters pretty much try to send V/ADSL signals down a power circuit. If the two adapters are on different electrical circuits then they often don't work at all.

Most of the time, wi-fi is a better solution. Adding extended or directional antennas to your router is often better.

I recommend used foxtel power line adapters on eBay. From memory $40 for 4 of them, all paired and comes with 4 Ethernet cables
